Hello jim Wow, yeah, the problem seems to occur when I have opened Safari (of course, that's when I want to gain quick access to downloaded files on the desktop using expose), but also when I have openend several other apps, such as the terminal, entourage and vectorworks... But with just acrobat or indesign open, expose works just fine... So maybe it's a very mixture of both of the answers, maybe having openend some apps causes expose to use a part of the memory that is maybe faulty (which of course can be) - maybe by swapping expose out? But for now, I just switched expose off, I'm currently praying the RAM isn't faulty and yeah...thanks for all your replies thomas On 18.02.2005 1:51 Uhr, James Comas [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I had a similar problem with my Pismo (400, 512MB), running 10.3.7. =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Expos=E8?= crashes my Pismo - Help...
Hello everybody, As I got my Pismo last week, I'm currently new to the Mac - although I have a few experience with Linux. I really started to get in love with the Panther AND the Pismo But after I installed some more 256mb RAM (to finally 512mbs) into the Pismo and upgraded to 10.3.8, my Pismo crashes (meaning everything stands still - only the cursor is active) after I used ANY of the Exposè -Shortcuts (F11 for example) - I have to hard-reboot (that's the word for it?) the whole thing... Because Exposè is one of the most loveliest features in Panther (and also causes many Wows and Oooohhs and Aaaahhhss from my friends ;-), I'm really desperate. Does anyone here on the list have experience with this problem and can give me some solutions? I would appreciate any recommendations Greetings from Mozart's own country... Laurent, Do you think, a faulty memory can only cause problems with Exposè or will this just be the beginning of the end? ;-) well, I thought more of the VR or so? So it is likely that it would consistently cause a problem. In OS 9 you could change the disk cache size to shift where things loaded and see if the problem changed. But I don't know off hand how to do the same sort of thing in OS X. The simplest test is to swap the memory SODIMMs to see if the problem moves elsewhere. That is if you can, ie you have two SODIMMs (it sounds like you do) and both are low profile (to fit in the upper slot). -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Expos=E8?= crashes my Pismo - Help...
On older Macs running OSX, RAM is probably the number one problem. I've had trouble with even Apple ram on Pismo and Lombard PowerBooks under OSX, and now buy only from OWC, which has reasonable prices and very liberal replacement policies, including for OSX crashes (they know the problem well). Re: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Expos=E8?= crashes my Pismo - Help...
I had a similar problem with my Pismo (400, 512MB), running 10.3.7. I discovered that engaging Expose, whether by hot-key or hot-corner, would often, not always, result in a freeze. I wasn't able to determine the exact conditions; but the problem would always happen if I had been using Safari for some time and had accumulated 3-4 windows, each with several tabs. I decided to deal with the problem by simply switching Expose off. Then, a couple of months later, I repartitioned my hard-disk (for an unrelated reason) and, of course, had to reinstall the system software. For whatever reason, Expose worked with no problems and continues to work fine after updating to 10.3.8. So you may want to try reinstalling your system software.
