I've got a Pismo/500, and when I first installed 10.2 I got the same
behavior where the battery indicator said "Calculating...".

However, a few weeks ago it stopped, and now when the battery is fully
charged the indicator just says "100%".

Maybe discharging/recharging your battery might do something good.
That's pretty much all I've done.

I'm also on a Pismo 400, same issue: the battery monitor never finishes
calculating. My Pismo is also Mac OS X 10.2.1 (6D52), Boot ROM 4.1.8f5
(fun with Apple System Profiler), so there must be something else going
on.

I think you're getting NiCad (nickel cadmium - older type) batteries
confused with LiIon (Lithium Ion - more recent type) batteries. NiCad
batteries might need that, but as I understand it, LiIon batteries don't
have the "memory" effect common to NiCads, and in fact only have a
certain number of recharges available in their lifetime.

So the software monitoring the battery might have a glitch in it around
99%, but the battery does *not* have the "memory effect" - you're kidding
yourself if you think otherwise, IMHO.

Must just be some Pismos (as in Jaguar, since I'm running 9.2.2), as my
(400 MHz, with 384MB RAM and stock 10GB drive) PB goes almost instantly
from the adapter to the charge remaining time on my control strip
readout. Don't recall that I've ever seen the "calculating" that you
folks are discussing. When I switch back from battery to the AC
adapter/charger, it takes a few minutes for the lightning bolt on the
battery icon in the menubar to go away and for the icon in the CSM to
switch from the lightning bolt'ed battery to the A/C adapter (inside of
7-10 min., I'd guess).

I think it's a bug in Jaguar. It is able to guess the remaining time or
power when running off the battery, and when plugged in, how many time
before the battery is fully charged, but it seems it's too shy of displaying
the charge being at 100%

I think if you allow it to discharge a bit - to about 94% I seem to
remember - and then charge again the battery will come back to 100%.

I tend to let it run down to the red sleep warning occasionally and
then fully charge the battery.

I also turn the screen brightness down and this allows a longer life
