Re: Applecare (was iBook vs. PowerBook)

2002-07-22 Thread R. Hannes Niedner

Well, thanks to all who responded. Before I sold my Pismo in favor of a
TiBook 667/30 GB, 1 GB RAM rev C, I bought a new battery (only 45 min left)
not knowing that I could have exploited my Apple Care. Since I am already
experiencing degrading of the battery that came with the TiBook from about
3+ hours to 2.5 hours at best I am wondering when I should contact Apple for
an replacement (hey, I bought the new TiBook with Apple Care, so I might as
well take advantage of it this time). What is the minimum acceptable battery
usage time with an average use for the above configuration?

There is one fine distinction: Dropping cracks the LCD. That's how
Apple assigns abuse. They blame you if the keyboard breaks with the
lid down and breaks the LCD (although, in theory, that is their
problem).

I've read a few times on this list people reporting that they were taking
back or otherwise returning batteries if they were not delivering the charge
that one would expect, more or less according to Apple's own specs...

Are all those situations really going to be resolved for free with Apple
care (eg. Getting a new battery just because you get only 45mins out instead
of close to 3hours or a new screen if it isn't as bright anymore) ? That
would be really cool, but just recently I was told that Apple care does not
replace your TiBook screen if you break it (which is really easely
accomplished). Just curious.
