I just checked e-mailanywhere.com. They claim it works
best with Internet Explorer. This means they are
 windows oriented?

Is there a Linux/Unix webmail-based service that will
work from any Windows or Mac 'puter anywhere?

The best IMHO: http://www.fastmail.fm. They also have quite a few other
domain names you can choose instead.

Anyway, I never had a problem from anywhere with this service that is
fast, useful, uncluttered and comes in a very reasonable free package and
some paid for versions as well. I can not swear it's UNIX-based, but as
it works so well, it must be.

Choking on Yahoo Mail, OSX, ADSL, Firefox, adfarm.mediaplex.com ads

2005-04-01 Thread George Mogiljansky

Hi all,

Serious choke points and loading 10 sec. or longer and
finally no ad is loaded. Using Yahoo Mail, OSX, ADSL,
Firefox; adfarm.mediaplex.com ads - these ones do the
choking. Mediaplex.com is indeed an internet
advertising firm, located worldwide.

I wrote to Yahoo but their help is useless (no
response). I compared Mac 'puters - 10.1.4 up to
10.3.8 - same slow down. Yahoo can also be slow on an
even faster cable connection (using Windoze) at work.

I will abandon Yahoo mail if nothing can be done, so
your webmail based alternatives welcome (G-mail does
not work!).

Well, if you have a POP3 email account somewhere, you can always use some
free services that will let you access your account from your web browser.
That's what I do here at work, because I'm behind a pretty tight firewall.
Right now, I'm using http://www.e-mailanywhere.com/. Works pretty well. I
also used for some time http://www.mail2web.com/ but at some point I
noticed that some messages I was sending out were just disappearing in the
ether.

Of course, there is always .Mac...

FYI, I use email-anywhere.com exclusively from Safari. No problem.
