Key markings are different from scratches. On a bad iBook, I used
several SeeClear swabs, which are eyeglass cleaning swabs, readily
available in drugstores; Costco sells em, too.

*gentle* scrubbing with these cleaned most of the marks off, at least
so they're not noticeable when the screen's on.

Scratches, on the other hand, are different...I don't know how to get
rid of those.

Ok never tried any of this so YMMV but I heard Pledge helps, also buffing
with toothpaste, or that stuff on TV liquid lens or something like that.

I've used a liquid buffing compound for polishing plexiglass
windshields. I looks like brown water and it can be bought from an auto
parts store. I'll warn you though that it can make the area that your
fixing look a little shiny when the laptop is off.

2006-02-08 Thread Howard Katz
The liquid lens stuff ruined a pair of eyeglasses--fogged them up
something terrible. I wouldn't rcommend it at all.

One of the magazines (MacAddict?) had an article about restoring an
ipod with scratches (yes I know the material is different than a PB
screen) and said that the toothpaste urban legend seemed mostly
that--apparently it left a mess rather than a smooth shiny surface.

I use Hoodwipes as they seem to do the best job of making the screen look
clean again and they do a marvelous job on the case too.

I did use KlearScreen at some point when I was using my Pismo. It would not
remove them but would make them a little less noticeable.
