Local Live gives better views and I could capture the images. Local Live has more up to date photos of many sites and they have a Birds Eye View feature that allows views from various angles of the same scene. I have Google Earth but I hated to loose access to Local Live. When I upgraded to 10.4.4 I wasn't able to use it anymore. I have been running it on my 1.25 PB with only 512 MB RAM and it's pretty smooth. An amazing application !!! I have the beta version which was pulled from MacUpdate amongst other sites but is still fairly widely available. I will place a copy in my public folder later today for you to access. I've been drooling over it on my partners Sager laptop running Win2000 pro... which does hang up occasionally. How are you running it on the Mac? (my primary machine is a 1gig 17 aluminum G4 with max RAM running 10.3.9) Sandra, You should have absolutely no problem running it on your 1 Gig G4 PB. I have been running it on my 1.25 PB with only 512 MB RAM and it's pretty smooth. An amazing application !!! I have the beta version which was pulled from MacUpdate amongst other sites but is still fairly widely available. I will place a copy in my public folder later today for you to access. In the meantime, in consideration for G-Book list members who have absolutely no interest in this program and the list as a whole, I am requesting that any requests or offers of the Google Earth application file BE KEPT OFF-LIST. Google Earth
I should add that I did notice one glaring glitch on the Google Earth Beta version : it would suddenly zoom in extremely rapidly to where you couldn't see anything at all because it was so magnified, and then quit. Sandra, No worries - When you open that page, do you see a green box on the upper right side ? It is just above the minimum system configuration list. Ensure that you have marked the Mac OS X and click on the Download Google Earth bar - the dmg file will start downloading and you'll have the official, full version. Hello, Just wondering if anybody has the Beta version of Google Earth for OS X ? If so, could you please contact me off list. I just want to know how well it works on your Mac, etc etc.. It worked a whole lot better after I turned it down from some of the high-end video settings which seemed to be more in line with a G5 desktop system's capabilities. Turned down to the medium-type settings, it runs nicely on my 1.25ghz Powerbook/1gb RAM/64mb Radeon 9600 and also pretty well on my Dual G4 500mhz/1gb RAM/64mb Geforce2. I don't think I'd try it on my wife's 400mhz G3 Pismo, though.
