From: Claire Hart [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'll tell you what came to mind when I read your post. (1) If your preferences are NOT set to snap-to-grid, and (2) you've been gathering a collection of icons all over your desktop, and then (3) you decide to switch your preferences TO snap-to-grid, and then (4) you select SOME or ALL of your desktop items and drag them just a little bit, then: The result is that each icon snaps to the closest point on the grid. Some go up a little, some go down a little, some go left a little,etc... They all do appear to fly a little, and they all end up in the grid rather than random. Could that be what you are describing? No, much simpler. I have the setting to NOT snap to grid, i.e. default. 5-10 icons on the desktop, some on the right some on the left I place them roughly where I want them Select clean up or whatever (I use a Swedish system) Some icons jump to a different place and some icons are seemingly placed on top of another and so on, completely illogical. Oh, BTW I am completely aware of the grid system, on a Windoze pc you can adjust the grid distance by pixels. Then when I go to click on an icon it's not actually there even though it looks as if it is, and selecting them all shows their actual position which may be somewhere completely different. The HD icon doesn't tend to move though... Larry _ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! OS X desktop icon bug, I cannot believe...
I am using my AlBook 15 with Mac OS X.3.8 and I cannot believe that OS X still has this bleeding desktop icon bug where a cleanup of the icons causes them to fly all over the place, and then not show their actual position until one tries to select them, i.e. the ones that aren't where they appear to be but somewhere else... Re: OS X desktop icon bug, I cannot believe...
I think somebody already posted a reply to your question a bit earlier today. From the desktop, choose the view menu then Show View Options and there you can choose the icon size and how items are displayed on the desktop. You can choose to keep arranged by name or kind or whatever. Personally, I use Name and my HD icon is always up in the upper right. Try a couple of different things and see what you like best. One thing I like is that you can opt to show information on the items. This is great because it will display free space on my HD or how many items are in a folder. This works in 10.2 and 10.3 (I don't remember if you could do this in 10.1). It also shows file sizes and such. Also you can use different colors on desktop item by control clicking. Give it a try. From: Tim Collier [EMAIL PROTECTED] I think somebody already posted a reply to your question a bit earlier today. Yes, I have even switched to snap to grid to stop me from getting pissed off, but it's not really the point I was making, it was more that I couldn't line icons up without them jumping halfway across the screen for no apparent reason.
