Canon works great with Mac OS X I used a powershot s200, 2400, s30. s50.
They all work perfect through canon provided soft or with the preinstalled
mac os x soft.

If you are considering the 10D, I would also look at the Fujifilm and
the Nikon (on which the Fuji is based) models. I use a D100 Nikon
(and also an 8008) and have no problems transferring pics using a PC
only pc card reader which came with a Bluetooth adapter thrown in
for $40 or so at Best-to-pass-it-buy. Nikon also provides some sw,
but read the reviews to learn more.

It's a little like Ford/Chevy/Dodge. Personal preferences and habits
sometimes trump features. They all have their plusses and
unbelievable aggravations.

There are many comparisons on line on these 3 cameras and all cost
$1500-1800 body only. I bought mine locally from an established
servicing dealer.

In light of my previous complaints, I thought I'd post an update.

While I have yet to hear back from Canon tech support (and thus still
think it's close to nonexistent), I have been able to get my FB-630U
scanner to work with my Aluminum PowerBook G4 (15) and Panther 10.3.2.

Figuring that it couldn't hurt, I uninstalled the scanner software and
re-installed it (yet again). It is now working.

I'm still not sure that I'd buy anything from Canon again, since I
consider tech support a very important part of my buying decisions.

Re: Panther and Canon digital Rebel

2004-01-26 Thread Wayne
I just bought Canon's i860 photo printer and it works great in 9.2.2 (when I
use 9) and in OSX Panther. The ink status is a little off in the software,
but everything else worked from the start.

I have to say, these are impressive printers, beautiful results, uses very
little ink and is faster than most laser printers.

Hope this helps on the printer question.

2004-01-25 Thread Clyde Kahrl
Harry Asked:

or Jaguar? Is so what have been your experiences?

A: There is a reason why everybody pays boatloads of money to use
Photoshop---it works better than the other stuff. I scan a lot of
film and with that photoshop is more important. When you are
working directly off of digital, there is less to do--sometimes.
But still, iPhoto is great for cataloguing, but if you are shooting
with big honkin' 20 meg files (or whatever come out of the Rebel) you
will probably sooner or later want to use Photoshop. Then--from
what I have read--sooner or later you will probably also want to get
an epson printer.

Don't feel like you have to use the software or the printer that goes
with the camera. With the high end cameras (or prosumer cameras
like the Rebel) you can use any software or printer. (I am presuming
it gives you file output options like RAW and TIFF.)

If what passes for tech support from Canon is any indication, I'd stay
away from their products. I have a Canon USB scanner. I had to jump
through some web hoops before even being allowed to send them an email.
I got a canned response that was not at all helpful (directing me to
irrelevant tech documents). I was then allowed to send them an email,
and got another canned response, advising me to do a couple of steps
I'd already done. When I wrote back telling them that, I never heard
from them again (except for a survey asking me what I thought of their
tech support).

I've repeatedly asked for further help, and not heard anything back. At
this point, I'll have nothing to do with Canon again.

Re: Panther and Canon digital Rebel

I have used several Canon cameras including the Digital Rebel with my
Mac computers including Panther. The camera comes with software for the
Mac but really it is much easier to use a card reader and iPhoto or
similar program. By the way the Digital Rebel is a great camera. I
have the 18-55mm lens and 55-200mm lens.

At this point, I'll have nothing to do with Canon again.

My newspaper ordered a 50mm lens for our D10 and three weeks later the
thing fell apart. Sent it back to Canon and they rejected to fix it.
Reasons they listed: 1. Cost to fix would be more than the value of the
lens. 2. They suspected abuse of equipment.

I was there when it fell apart. The photographer just put the thing on
the camera body, gave it the twist to lock it, and it fell in about
three pieces. Me and photog had and have a good relationship; asked him
if it had been dropped and told him I readlly didn't give a shoot one
way or another; he said no, and I had good reason to believe him.

So yeah, I'm ticked at Canon, too.
