Hey Caleb; Good Luck with you Lombard.
These really look very interesting and since mine didn't come with a
battery these seem like a good deal as well as a great way to get a as
you say powerhouse Lombard going on battery. Actually since I am
preparing this one for my wife it probably will never move off the
desktop unless I can convince her to let me use it. It's amazing how I
got this for myself but since I have let her use it it seems to no
longer belongs to me.
Anyway good luck again with your Lombard upgrades and
Season's Greetings to All

It might (I haven't seen anyone posting that they've successfully used
faster RAM on slower machines). And if it's stacked memory, it will not
be fully recognized by Lombard PowerBooks.

So the price difference, pc66 being more expensive, is based on
availability rather than a physical difference or incompatibility?

PC100 and PC133 ram will work okay in the Lombard (and Wallstreet and
original iMacs), BUT only if it's made according to those Macs'
specifications. i.e., not ALL PC100 and PC133 ram will work in those Macs.

So be sure to buy memory that is specifically advertised as compatible with
those Macs and comes with a free exchange guarantee and lifetime warranty.

Solid online stores that sell this ram include OWC (which offers free
exchange and lifetime warranty)
http://eshop.macsales.com/specials/MailList.cfm
and Transinternational (do a web search).

Looks like it is freezing when memory usage is around 100 MB no matter

sticks I got from work. They are PC100 low profile SO DIMMs borrowed
 from a Dell laptop.

Yes, but it still takes PC100 memory. I have a 256MB low profile PC100

some cases, computers with a certain bus can take faster memory upgrades.

Computers that are running PC-33, 66, or 100 can all take PC-100 or PC-133.
You can't go tthe other way and give PC-33 to a machine that shipped with
PC-133.

The major name brands cost more, often twice as much as the off brand.
Lots of people have no problems with the cheaper off brands. Some folks
have had problems that required replacements. But I'm sure it's happened
with name brands as well, though probably not as often. Name brands
often have a lifetime warranty. Off brands may or may not. Then it's
up to the dealer for warranty policy (if any). You're best bet is to
buy from a well-known and well-respected dealer that knows how to take
care of its Mac customers. Even if you don't buy the more expensive
name brand RAM, good dealers will provide good warranties.
