We have a shared multi-printer HP OfficeJet [it's the cousin nobody speaks about], which is shared between 3 machines using a USB switch from Belkin. The only drawback - it's manual. All right we've either got a major cross-communication here or we re talking about different threads ;-) That's what I was *trying* to do. Have:G4 Tower, OS 9.1 TiBook OSX 10.1.5 Turned USB printer sharing on on the tower, went to TiBook, couldn't find the printer. I can see and mount the shared drive on the tower from the TiBook, so there's not a problem seeing shared resources, just the shared USB printer. I tried Go To Server and Print Center and couldn't find the printer anywhere. I believe (since I've never gotten it running to see) you need to run the USB printer sharing control panel to see shared USB printers to use, since there's a network pane in there. That said, we found a $25 USB switch which they're going to get which should solve the problem forthwith. Re: USB sharing
There are two options for USB sharing of an Epson printer. There's the poor utility that Epson has, and there's Apple's USB Printer Sharing. Apple's was the lesser of two evils for me, but it worked so poorly that I ended up springing for an Epson C80N so I could hang it on the network as a standalone. Apple's USB printer sharing worked on my Appletalk network using DHCP server for IP address assignments, but it would often lose the remote address of the printer and I'd have to go back to the host computer, regenerate the shortcut, then copy it to the remote machine in order to get it to work. Very frustrating. I think if you never turn off either machine, it will minimize your problems. - Jeff Lentz --- Bruce Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ryan Coleman wrote: how will you do it then?
