Re: iPod logistics...

2005-10-25 Thread david
Strictly speaking, this isn't the right site for this question, I
think. Authorization allows you to play tunes from the iTunes store.
It has nothing with copying back and forth. The iPod and iTunes
allows music syncing in one direction only. If you want to move tunes
from the iPod to another computer, the most convenient way is to use
a third party program. Go to your favorite download site and search
on 'iPod' and look at the offerings. There are free and shareware
titles to do what you want.

There are lots of ways around this, but I'm not sure I care that
much at this time.

Well, yes and no. Authorizing the computer allows you to play your
purchased music on it. You can synch any number of iPods to a
computer, but each iPod only synchs with a single computer at a time.

That said, if you want to copy music from one computer to another,
you can do it, but you have to designate part of the iPod disk as a
disk drive, and copy them music files to that partition, then onto
the other computer. If the ITMS music you copy is authorized on both
computers, then it'll play.

Well the choice is dealing with Apple's (minimally) problematic DRM
or not having the devices at all, because the RIAA would sue them out
of existence.

There are numerous programs out there to do what you want.

I use an app called Senuti (iTunes backwards). It has an iTunes-like
interface and works really well.

Thanks guys. I might get around to moving the things off; it isn't a
major concern, but there are a few softwares to help.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some iTunes setting on my
powerbook!
