Headphones, every time! You hear effects that you missed when you
listened with speakers. Also, in a hotel, your neighbours will be
grateful for the lack of that subwoofer! :D

I've heard from several sources (including a friend who owns both) that
the Sennheiser (sp?) noise cancelling headphones are far better than
the Bose. You may want to check them both out before purchasing.

What type Powerbook are you using? I have a 15 inch Titanium 500mhz,
and the sound is just awful. The Lombard/Pismo models are much louder
and have a lot more bass - in general, a much fuller sound. I haven't
heard the newer iBooks, I have one here I'm repairing so perhaps by
tomorrow I'll be able to judge those too.

Sound on my 12 PowerBook is awesome, for a laptop anyway. Watched
Lawrence of Arabia on it when staying in a motel room and didn't even
bother with headphones.

Re: Sound advice needed

2004-03-18 Thread Wilson Ng
My favorite setup is to just use my iPod for listening and leave my
PowerBook for other things.

Headphones.com has a great selection of all types of headphones ranging from
studio to home/office to portable solutions. Lots of recommendations and a
function on the web site to compare specs on each headphone.

Or for the ultimate portable solution, pair the iPod with a set of Altec
Lansing inMotion Portable iPod Speakers. It has fairly good sound for a
portable setup. You can't ask for house speaker sounds when you're on the
road but at least it's a nice option:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore
=T8355LL/A

When I'm on the road, I'd rather turn on the iPod than open my laptop to
listen to music. It's easier to lug around the iPod than having to keep my
laptop open.

Just a thought :-)

Re: Sound advice needed

2004-03-17 Thread Hugo Trottier
Just my 2 cents but you may want to go to a large retail store and try
on Altec Lansing
Portable speakers for iPods, and also from Monster Cables the iSpeakers
Portable.
That might just be the thing for you. Also a great set of ear/head
phones could do the trick.
Sony (among others) have a wide variety, so does Shure and even
Wireless ones.
