No. The power manager's a separate bit of electronics:

 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

But the point's moot since you seem to have got it working. If reset- all
did it, it was confused sleep settings in NVRAM.

No, I did reset-all and reset-nvram when I first received the TiBook
about a month ago. I'd done nothing with it...

?!

If it's only when it goes to sleep, it's a software issue;
possibly a firmware one, if they released a firmware
update for the TiBook.

I downloaded the 4.1.8 firmware update but it told me
the PowerBook was already updated.

However, it's been fine ever since...
---

Remotely it could be a power manager board issue.
Have you reset the Power Manager per Apple's KB article?

I typed reset-all in Open Firmware...

That's the same isn't it ?!

It could be a flaky PRAM battery. The machine's old enough to have
that problem.

What a dork, I've been updating Pismos left, right and centre,
but it never crossed my mind. Doh!

There is a 4.1.8 update which should be for the 400MHz,
and as I bought the computer from a warehouse clearance
my money is on a non-updated TiBook.

Could be, and I even have one from a broken TiBook. :o)

Re: TiBook power adapter problem (update)

2005-05-23 Thread Larry le Mac

I only seem to be getting replies relating to the hardware,
specifically crappy cables, but that does not explain why
it only stops charging when the PowerBook is asleep.
When it's running or off, it charges quite happily.

I have read on the net about this only being an OS X
issue and not OS 9, though this PowerBook doesn't have
OS 9 installed (might do it just to see though).

So, anyone have any thoughts on this not being a broken
cable type problem ?
