Thanks, Dave.

Okay!! Glad to see that advice solved one of your problems.

Another problem solved. :-)

>But now I can't get it to boot to 9.2 from the second partition.

That's what I have been afraid of the whole time. :-(

>It is recognized in the list of "startup discs" in System Prefs, though.

The Startup Disk doesn't have anything to do with the usability of a
partition. You might be able to see a System partition and still not
be able to boot into it. (I can see all 5 of my Operating Systems
from the OS X Startup Disk. But I can only boot into OS 9 from OS X.)
Since your OS 9 partition was formatted with OS X drivers, the OS X
Startup Disk will be to read it. But that has nothing to do with
being able to boot into OS 9 from it.

>Think there's any way I could actually start up in OS9 now?

I really don't think so, without reformatting and adding the OS 9
drivers. That's why many of us have stressed the fact of not
overlooking the OS 9 drivers installation when people have said they
were going to install OS X in the first place.

Well, that's 3 out of 4. If you can back up your drive and reformat
(adding OS 9 drivers this time), you could make it 4 out of 4. But I
sympathize with your difficulty.

Wait...I just had an idea. Boot up using your OS 9 CD. Then select
the OS 9 partition in the Startup Disk (still from the CD). See if
that will allow you to boot into the OS 9 partition. It still may
not, but it's worth a try.

Good Luck,

Bob

WS LCD backlight prob - fixed; no OS9 boot, though

2004-09-30 Thread Dave NovaK
You know what, I'm not sure I asked this very clearly in the first=20
place. Let me elucidate. The answer may still be the same, but=20
question is slightly different. :-)
If a person already has his drive partitioned into 2 partitions. If=20
he has already installed OS X, but didn't install the OS 9 drivers=20
when he installed OS X. Then subsequently he installs OS 9 on the=20
second partition (he still can't install the OS 9 drivers without=20
reformatting the drive). Now...
Can he boot into OS 9 from the OS on the second partition?
He = me.
I just answered my own and your question.
I booted in OSX from the HD. I popped the 9.2 CD in, and selected it as the
startup disc. It restrarted in 9.2 from the CD and I successfully installed
it on the 2nd partition.

But now I can't get it to boot to 9.2 from the second partition. It is
recognized in the list of "startup discs" in System Prefs, though.

Think there's any way I could actually start up in OS9 now?
BTW, it miraculously did fix the LCD backlight program in OSX.. so at least
that good came of it.
