Well, regarding the Powerlogix 500Mhz G3 upgrades, they can only run in the same base model as they have been flashed for. It seems it's the video card that is the determinating factor, not board speed, but this have not been 100% verified yet. You can tell that your card have been flashed for another model, if it postinstallation boots up but there is no video. So a CPU card that have been flashed on a WS II/PDQ (233wcache/266/300) will not work in a WS I (233nocache/250/292) an vice versa. The 233s may be interchangeable if it's the board speed that determinates, but I don't think it is. AFAIK there is no way to reflash the card for the other type of model. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Wallstreet proessor upgrades
Hi, What are do's don'ts, the must-have's and do not touch's regarding Powerlogix, Sonnet and else (Newer?) processor upgrades for the Wallstreet I and WS II? I just recently obtained a Powerlogix and a Sonnet upgrade card, but I have heard tales of ROM upgrades, heat problems, etc. I have also researched the 'net, and gathered info from comparisons the like... But now I am asking for real testimonies from actual users... thanks! Craig W. Atlanta, GA Power corrupts. Re: Wallstreet proessor upgrades
I used a Powerlogix 466 upgrade card for a few years, and it worked great. I followed the instructions, flashed the Rom, shutdown the computer, removed original processor, put in Powerlogix, start up and the Rom was flashed, that was it. Went from 233 to the 466 speeds with a 1 MB backside cache and saw an immediate jump in speeds. The only problem I incurred was the maximum ram that could be run was 256 MB, still do not know what the reason was for this as some people reported using 512 Mb or more. It was speculated that the Apple Rom may have had something to do with this (different versions of Rom in different computers), although this was never confirmed. I used OSX and full suite of graphics programs with the card and never had any problems. I also like to state that Powerlogix was an excellent company to work with, helpful and knowledgeable.
