your bank...Also, many if not most banks will waive
that limit if you request itIt costs a lot more
than $50 to attract and sign up new customers to
replace you if you leaveespecially if you have
been a customer for a while and a source of fees for

I think perhaps it is not the same as a mastercard itself.  Maybe it  
varies with the bank.  My bank indicated that if I got a product,  
even if dead/disabled, I had no claim thru MCard  with my debit.  If  
I got no box at all, then I had a claim.


Fraud I think is different issue than I got a dead/broken/no  
product.


I really had no gripe, was just checking once out of curiosity, so I  
had no reason to push and see what gave :)


Anyway still be aware that going with a debit card, even with a  
mastercard logo, won't be as easy as using a regular mastercard if  
you have a problem, perhaps depending on your bank :)

I purchased a used Lombard from them a couple of years ago. It 
arrived with some non-working keys on the keyboard.


I exchanged it for another keyboard which also had non-working keys. 
The third time they got it right, but each exchange took at least a 
month.


I had to conclude that either they were incredibly slipshod (how hard 
is it to check out a keyboard?) or they knowingly sent me defective 
merchandise and were hoping I wouldn't keep after them to correct the 
problem. I have not done business with them since.

It's almost as if Wegener is a relative of Karl Rove, as Wegener's 
bullying 
(and lying) techniques are similar to Rove's.

I believe, based upon first-hand experience, that it is Wegener, himself, 
not 
Wegener Media's employees which is the problem.

Wegener likely has bullied his employees, too, much as he's bullied his 
customers.

In Wegener Media's defense, I did have ONE transaction which went OK. 
But, 
this transaction was processed without Wegener's interference.

I'm 100 percent satisfied with Wegener Media transactions which do not 
involve Wegener, himself; and 100 percent dissatisfied with Wegener Media 
transactions which do involve Wegener, himself.

Just another data point on the continuum of good and bad experiences.

I'll admit I'm surprised by this thread... I ordered a set of feet for
a Pismo and a trayload CDROM for an early iBook.  A set of feet for a
TiBook and the CDROM arrived very promptly.  I called them on the feet
and a set of feet for the Pismo arrived two days later.  Very
surprised that they have apparently made trouble with so many of you.

I was ripped off also.  A few years ago I bought a PB 3400 from them.  The 
keyboard was very hard to type on so I called them and talked to a guy who 
worked there.  He said that did not sound normal and I should sent it back to 
them. 
 I sent it to them but apparently did not do a good job of packing it because 
the screen got cracked.  The owner called to tell me about that and said it 
would cost $200.00 to fix the screen which is what I paid for it to begin with. 
 He also said the problem with the keyboard was normal so it turned out there 
was no need to send it to them to begin with.  I had paid for insurance on it 
when I sent it to them but the post office said the company had to file the 
claim.  Instead of getting the screen fixed I bought a Wallstreet for quite a 
bit more money figuring I could recover part of the cost from the insurance 
claim.  The Wallstreet came and worked fine, but although they promised several 
times to file the insurance claim and to return the PB 3400 so I could use it 
with a monitor attached they never did either.  Whenever I contacted them about 
the situation they said they were sure they did process the claim and had 
sent the powerbook back and would look into it and take care of it.  I tried to 
deal with the post office myself later but by that time I had lost the receipt 
for the insurance and could not get the number from the receipt on the package 
from Wegener.  That is where things stand.  David Wegener used to belong to 
the swap list and offered things for sale there which is where I first found 
out about the company.  He was eventually kicked off the list for being abusive 
to people who complained about his business practices, so I know I am not the 
only one with problems with him.

I ordered my Pismo G4/550 upgrade from them and waited for five days  
for an email notification of shipment.  The only other communication  
I recieved was an emailed receipt of sale a couple of days after the  
purchase.  I suppose you could say that they are minimalist in  
communication.  They are very much unlike Daystar in this respect.   
However, the upgrade is working fine.  I will know more about how  
well they take care of their customers as I wait for the 'core' cost  
rebate.

I am Running a wallstreet I (2meg video) with panther (The Rumple 
helper was used successfully) using a Blue Chip Wallstreet G4 upgrade 
card. It works pretty well. Jaguar supported 24 bit video, Panther has 
issues with same resolution, so i am best off running in 8 bit color 
under panther. I have had the 512 Ram installed with no issues other 
than the 40 gig hd playing with the lid close indicator magnet. I am 
really jealous of those of you with the 4 meg video ram. :)

I had picked up an Allegro 500mhz from Wegener last year.  It runs 
perfectly-what more can I say.

I bought it to replace a BlueChip which had the dreaded installation error 
(had to return it to PowerLogix). Got a warranty BlueChip replacement, which 
ALSO had the same problem-very frustrating. I swore to never again get an upgrade 
with software installation requirements-just way too many problems, which led 
to my getting the Wegener card. From what I hear, many upgrade cards 
requiring software installation are a big problem. I dunno, but I'll never ever get 
one which requires software-I nearly lost my mind with the BlueChip issue. 

I've since traded out to a Pismo (got it for a song and passed my Wallstreet 
off a family member).  I'd say (purely subjective comparison) the Wallstreet 
with the 500 is almost as fast as my Pismo--well worth the $, IMHO. I ran it on 
OS9, and it really was a dream. 

Haven't seen much of the 400mhz upgrade, but I'd be int'd to hear how that 
one does as well. Just got another Wallstreet 233/0cache that I'd like to 
upgrade as well.  For the price, it seems like a bargain.

I bought a processor upgrade from Wegener Media which
didn't work despite their absolute assurance. They
finally admitted that it wouldn't work after I sent my
Lombard to them. I got my Lombard back with a
processor that had half my original memmory chips.
They still have my memory and never compensated me for
the loss nor will they communicate further. They were
having problems but I was the one that got screwed.
Until I get my original memory back I must caution
people about dealing with Wegener Media.

OK, sorry to keep the thread going, but I have a little update, and I
wanted to get something down in the archives so people just don't read
the bad stuff and just so there is no confusion over my original thread
- I wasn't slurring Wegner Media, I was just asking for opinions on them
due to the lengthy delay of my order, and the emails I have sent but not
had a reply to.

I still haven't had my order, but Wegner Media seems to be an OK company
from most of the responses on this list - albeit a little slow with
deliveries, mainly due to only a small number of staff that work there.

In addition to this since 9/11 overseas deliveries have been
particularly slow.

There is only one more thing I ask - I have tried to phone the company,
and the number on their web site doesn't work for me (or the
international operator) - the number I have been trying to dial from the
UK is:

00 57 803 808 4362

I was just getting a dead tone from my mobile (which now allows overseas
calls), and a pay phone.  The int. operator also said that the number
either didn't exist or their was a fault on the line/network.

Can anyone verify that I am dialing the correct number from the UK?

If possible, can anyone nearer, or in Columbia SC actually test the
number for me?

Thanks for all the advice so far - this is one thing that I love about
the Mac community (and in fairness the Open Source Community too) - they
are always willing to help!

Yeah, I work here!  I am in the middle of moving home right now (thats
not the reason for the missing delivery though, as family members still
live at the old address), so I have to sort this out using my works
address while ADSL gets installed (in addition to waiting for my
PowerLogix BlueChip G3 900MHz upgrade!) :(

So I should be dialing 0018038084362 ?

That would explain why I can't get through if so.

Not sure who the original poster was, but perhaps try looking in the phone
book? Here in Australia it gives directions for calling out of the country
in there... I also doubt there would be 3 zero's in the number, as that is
the emergency number here (same as America's 911)

Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from Wegener Media??

Hi,

I was looking for a replacement CDRW/DVD-ROM Drive, some more memory
and some replacement rubber feet for a Pismo laptop I bought from
eBay.  After searching the web and reading recommendations on this list
I found everything I wanted could be bought at http://www.wegenermedia.com/ 

On the 20th May I ordered the parts and paid for the correct delivery
to the UK and paid straight away via PayPal. The money has been
debited from my credit card, by PayPal and I can see that in my PayPal
account that its gone to wegnermedia.com.  I received receipts via
email and I was happy with the order.

About 2 weeks ago I was starting to wonder where my delivery had got
to, so I tried to contact them. I emailed [EMAIL PROTECTED] a
detailed description of my order asking for an update.

By Tuesday the 10th June I hadn't had a reply, so I sent another email
that day.

I still haven't had a reply, I am without the items I ordered and paid
for.

Has anyone here, or in the UK had any dealings with wegenermedia.com?

Can anyone comment if this is usual?  I have posted to a few newsgroups
asking the same question, and the general reply is that the guy is a
one man shop, and although he takes his time, he usually comes through,
but one month on tomorrow, no reply to my emails and no goods gets me
very concerned about the situation :(

First off, I apologize to Andrew for sending a blank reply to his 
personal mailbox.

Secondly, I just did some research on this through my 9 months of 
email (yes 9 months, about 7000 emails) for just this list and you 
are not the first to complain about WegenerMedia.

I agree with Kurt: No one I have found that has paid them via PayPal 
has been successfully trouble-free with Wegener. Personally I have 
not purchased from them before nor do I ever intend to but that's my 
opinion and personal choice.

I know what it is like to work for small businesses (less than 5 
employees). I just was laid off from such an operation and I did not 
have access to the paypal account. In fact, just the president of the 
company had access. Many times when he was out of town for a week I 
got calls from people who were irate that they hadn't received 
confirmation of their payment(s). It could be something just 
fundamental about the setup or something more serious.

Because of problems like this, I buy insurance when making purchases 
from people or businesses I don't know. For everything else I have 
the debit card.
