Thanks for the info. I've been to that site and installed it but still
didn't have any luck, tho I never felt too comfortable doing all that tome
stuff at first. Maybe I did it wrong. I have been to this site:

http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Airport/Airport12OS86.html

Where, of course they say ONLY Airport 1.2 will work. I have successfully
installed Airport 1.2 using the tome stuff. I know the site says this is
all about OS 8.6 and I'm running OS 9, so maybe that's the issue. I do,
however have Airport showing up now in my control strip, but still there is
no option under AppleTalk or TCP/IP for Airport. And clicking on Airport in
the control strip tells me that no card is available. I'll try trashing
everything Airport and re-installing v.1.3.1 now that I'm a tome expert ;-).
I'll let you know how it turns out if I don't go crazy first.

Hello All.

I have been following this thread for a couple of days, and I am of the
opinion that you have not installed all of the Airport software, or some
thing that your installed is bad.

First off, go to this great site and read how to do a manual install of
Airport v1.3.1. Only v1.3.1 will work on the 2400.

http://www.alksoft.com/projects/unsupported_airport.html

Second, with the software installed, you should have an AirPort selection
in both the AppleTalk control panel, and the TCP/IP control panel. If you
don't, then something is wrong. Even if you have AppleTalk turned off, set
the control panel to the AirPort Card.

If your install is successful, then when the card is in, it should pop up
on desktop as AirPort PC Card.

Make sure that any network you are trying to connect to has encryption
turned off. Only use the encryption once you have the hardware working.

If at all possible, install a new OS on the laptop with the clean install
option. I have seen many problems solved by starting over with a clean
install.

One other item, I have had some PowerBooks just refuse to work with
wireless. The solution for them is the Farallon or Proxim version of the
Skyline card for Macintosh. I have never had a PowerBook that this software
would not work with. The only down side is that the card only supports
64bit WEP.

If you do get it working, please let me know what the final solution is.

I hope this info helps.

Ken Vann

I have tried both slots. Just to double check I know what I'm doing
(questionable) - I should have either Airport or the Orinoco drivers
installed, correct? That's how I interpreted the instructions from Orinoco.
If using Orinoco drivers delete all other card drivers. Does this sound
right?

I've done that (after a fashion). Originally it had OS 8.6 on it. I
couldn't get the card to go so I wiped the drive clean and installed OS 9
and upgraded to 9.1. I suppose I could do a clean re-install of 9 and then
.1 again. What have I got to lose? I'm a little worried that the card slot
itself is bad though, since the eject buttons don't work.

I just looked at my Kanga and they only one I could find was "PC Card
Modem Extension" which wouldn't be relevant. I thought there were
other files related to PC Cards, there might have been in earlier
releases of the OS.

Is the card appearing on the Desktop? If it isn't then it is a
problem with PC Cards in general.

Like Clark mentioned, you need to be sure that you have the right extension
for PC card support in OS 9, I think, or the 2400 won't notice any card in
 the slot.

I think someone mentioned a "PC Card" extension or something like that. Not
sure but I thought I remember seeing one of those at some point in the old
Mac OS system folder but that was a few years ago...

Re: Wi-fi card

2006-02-02 Thread Mark
I suppose that might be it. Though I did think that Orinoco Silver was
supposed to work in older PB's. I've been googling all kind of sites that
show how to "adapt" Airport to work on a 2400 (using Tomeviewer or whatever
it's called) and patches, etc., but no go so far. The eject buttons for the
PC slots on my 2400 also do nothing - I always must use a high-tech tool
(straightened paper clip) to get the card out. So maybe it's the slot's
fault and not mine. That must be it- it can't be me ;-)

Like Clark mentioned, you need to be sure that you have the right extension
for PC card support in OS 9, I think, or the 2400 won't notice any card in
the slot.

Re: Wi-fi card> Initialization Procedure for Airport.

2006-02-01 Thread Mark
Yes, it's in OS 9.0 but I've obviously got a problem of some sort. I think
that I now know the card works. Set it up in my Kanga (OS 9.1) and it finds
my network, lights come on, etc. But in the 2400 nothing. I've got Airport
installed. I can find it in applications, there's an Airport AP in
extensions,Airport driver in extensions, etc. I'm sure it's there. But
when I go to Appletalk, Airport is not one of the options. I've got IrDA,
Modem/printer Port, and Remote only as the options. So I can't reset
Appletalk to Airport. I'm struggling with this. I've got no other PC cards
to test in the 2400. I suppose it's possible that the PC card cage or
whatever is non-functional. I'll keep at it.

What about other PC Cards on the 2400? How was it's system
installed? Did it come from another machine or was it installed from
CD-ROM onto the 2400? You shouldn't need other software than OS 9
and Airport to see it. The fact that it doesn't appear in System
Profiler implies only on the 2400 implies a problem with PC Card
support on the 2400. I forget the exact name but there should be an
extension called something like "PC Card Support".

Yes, the lights are power and activity. Power won't go on until you
 activate the card.

What OS is on the PB G4. If it's OS X it won't see the card unless
you installed one of the third party drivers. The stock Airport
driver won't see it. If it's OS 9 then, yes the Airport driver
should see it. Do other PC Cards work in the PB 2400c. It's
possible it doesn't have the PC Card software installed. Does the
2400's System Profiler see the card?

To power on the card you need to manually turn it on using the

Wi-fi card> Initialization Procedure for Airport.

2006-02-01 Thread Illovox Media
Well, let¹s not jump to conclusions...is this in 9? Orinoco Silvers work
across the board, unless broken. If 9, you need to put the card in before
power on, then once booted, reset Appletalk control to ³airport card² and
TCIP control to ³airport². Close both panels and check ³yes, change² when
they ask you. Reboot. Then go to the Airport control strip widget and
select your network. Voila. You¹re on.

PS, remove Orinoco extension and cp before all this to avoid conflict. If
no work in AP, try Orinoco drivers, but if your machine supports ap, it will
work with procedure above if card works.

If nothing turn on the card, then you're likely not going to see any
activity. It also depends on the brand, different brands react differently
when they're put in a laptop.

The only one I know that works is the DLink 122 Not that it will only
work in WEP mode, not WPA.
