Wireless printing

2004-08-14 Thread Darkwolf45
A few days back I posted about my troubles getting my printer to work on my new
wireless network, thanks in part to the advice I received on here.
I managed to make it work, but not in the way I had originally planned to. After
screwing with it and getting no where I decided to try it from another angle. I
plugged it in to my G3 iMac and set it up to be shared from there. Worked like a
charm. I think I may know now what I was doing wrong and may be able to get it to
work on the base station, but for now I'll stick with the working setup I have.

Wireless with Lombard and Silver Wavelan, wireless printing

2003-09-29 Thread Andrew in Ann Arbor
Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 09:20:57 -0400
Subject: Re: using a PowerBook Wallstreet 300 in a coffee shop?
From: w miller caribsea(a-t)bellsouth.net
I finally was able to sit in my recliner with my Lombard (OS 9.2.2) on my
lap, happily checking email and accessing the Internet. I downloaded the
driver for my Wavelan Silver card from IOXperts and it works! I thought I
would mention that they told me to disable Airport in order to use the card.
I did, and it does work.
I've had good luck using my Wavelan Silver card in my Lombard using the
Apple Airport drivers (OS 9.2.2).

BTW, I have a Linksys wireless router.
Me too.

Does anyone have experience with printing through this system?
I had the powerprint setup with my wallstreet (Wavelan Silver and OS
9.2.2), I haven't set it up on the Lombard yet but I think it should work.

The powerprint hardware is a box that plugs into the printer (parallel
port) and the network (ethernet). The software is a Powerprint printer
driver for your specific printer. They have a list of the printers that
they have drivers for on the website.

The set-up worked nicely with my Canon BJC 4550 inkjet.
I got mine from E-bay, I think it might be an orphaned product (not
available new).
I have the manual and other useful files if you end up with one.

Check to see if your firewall settings in the Sharing prefs are set to allow
access to those ports...

Wireless printing problem ...

2002-12-31 Thread Bryan Forbes
Hi:

Hoping someone has been down this route ...

I have the following hardware setup ... Titanium 667 Powerbook running
OS 10.2.3
Asante FriendlyNET AeroLAN PDMCIA Card - AL1011
Asante FriendlyNET Wireless Rounter - FR3202AL-1PCM

I can printer when hooked up via ethernet to an Apple Laser Select 360,
but when I try wireless it won't go through. The error messages I get
are that "printer isn't responding" or that "appletalk isn't active".

I've worked with both Apple and Asante in the past and they did a
pretty good job of pointing the finger at each other.

However, after waiting several months I called Apple back and a rep.
was very friendly and helpful in troubleshooting what might be going
on. After going through a number of troubleshooting procedures we
believe we are on to something. He thinks that these two ports aren't
open (or at least one of them isn't open). Port# 548 and port# 427.
He thinks that the Appletalk signal is being sent out to the printer,
but the powerbook isn't being replied to by the printer because of a
blocked port.

Has anybody went through the process of "unblocking a port" or at least
checking to see if one or the other is closed?

Although I was real comfortable with tinkering around OS 9, some of the
OS X stuff has me at a loss ... would appreciate assistance from anyone
familiar with this.

Happy Holidays!

Q: best option for wireless printing

2002-10-02 Thread Andrew

I want to set up a printer over my wireless network.
My printing requirements are pretty modest, maybe 10 pages per day
mostly text.
I've got both PC and MAC (mixed marriage) using Lucent Wavelan Silver
cards and a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless hub.
The PC is a IBM thinkpad 560x, WIN98
The MAC is a Wallstreet G3 Powerbook
I have a number of Canon Printers to choose from.

I was looking at the D-Link 713P but just found out the printer server
only works with Windows.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks
