Re: Can I put an 8X AGP video card in a 4X MDD?
The 6200 works PERFECTLY with my G4 Cube (which on this list is between the GigaEnet and the DigAudio as I have 10/100/1000 and it originally came with), Core Image SUPORTED IN HARDWARE, NOT IN SOFTWARE. Also have 1.5 GB of PC133 in there and TWO 1.6 74447A G4s in there...faster than either my MDD 1.42 Dual G4 or my sons' mac mini intel core 2 duo machine. its actually scary, especially using my Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac device; I found a way to use USB 2 by removing the original AirPort Card and modifing a USB 2 CardBus card into the slot, then routing the ports out and making one port dedicated and the other connected to a pretty 7-port hub. Anyways, the point here is that the Pinnacle connected to the Cube is faster and smoother at 480p res (FULL 480p, as in S-Video, not composite) than it is connected to the mac mini core 2 duo (TWO duo). The best GPU for 2x-4x AGP Macs is the NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (256 RAM). I can't think of a single sore-point to this card running under Mac OS X 10.4-up. My GigEnet 500x2 FLIES with Leopard with that card (Core Image Hardware, remember) and 1 gig of RAM. BTW unfortunately my Cube is no more; had to e-bay it (crying), along with my much modded mac mini's next week (really crying) Joey. Re: Can I put an 8X AGP video card in a 4X MDD?
I'm not sure why the 6200 is listed as incompatible with the MDD but the folks at themaceleite are very knowledgable. I guess I could put one of my 6200s into my MDD just to see what happens but I suspect I'd just get a black screen. I have 6200s in my Cube and in my Digital Audio, they are very good cards, but I recently swapped out the 6200 for a 7800 GS in my G5 and there's no comparison, the 7800 is far superior... it won't run in a 2x slot (Sawtooth Gig-E) but from the Digital Audio model on up it would be the top performer. The only drawback with either card is that, with 10.5.x, there is a boot delay of 2-3 minutes while the temperature sensor kicks in. There are modded ROMs with the temp sensor disabled but then you can't monitor the temperature of the card. Since the video card sits close the the processor in most Macs I like to keep an eye on the temp. Re: Compact Flash = Solid state drive in iPod?
I don't think any iPod can be converted this way...I have a first gen 5GB iPod with a dead HDD and I can't just throw in a CF card AFAIK I wish I could, got a new battery and a good FM transmitter for it(old iTrip). -sam On Feb 14, 2009, at 7:31 AM, Dana Collins wrote: My 3rd-Gen. iPod's hard drive bit the dust yesterday and, since I have the liberty to investigate an alternative, thought now is the time to try. ANY HDD-based iPod can be converted to solid state this way. b) can I use just any compact flash card, or is there a certain style/voltage to look for? Re: more RAM in my QS 867
Looks like it's time to move up to a G5, if you really must run CS4. It happened to me, too, not with Adobe CS but with Final Cut Pro. While any of my G4s would run Final Cut Express, when I wanted to move up to Pro, things got very iffy. My newest G4 ( a 1.42 GHz FW800 MDD) would install and run the basic program, but it ran slowly, and would not run Motion or other related programs. So, I went to eBay and bought a G5, and was back in business. There comes a time when, if you want to run the latest version of things, you just have to move up to a new computer. You can only stretch the capabilities of old ones so far. Re: Compact Flash = Solid state drive in iPod?
Howdy, The 1st and 2nd gen iPod minis can be upgraded with a standard CF card. I have read about many people doing this. There are businesses that will do it for you. I don't know about other models. My Sansa e250 with Rockbox beats all the iPods anyway. It handles 8gb micro SDHC cards and they are easier to find and cheaper.
