I don't remember that working in Classic. I always had to use Adobe Acrobat to
convert PM files to PDF.

here is a link to the VESA standard mounting hole patterns.

http://www.mountcenter.com/VESA-Mount-Standards-s/367.htm

if your monitor has mounting holes per one of these patterns, you're
in good shape. you should be able to find standard wall mount
brackets at your favorite big box electronics store. chances are
walmart also has them, since they sell flat screen tv's. i bought a
simple (non-articulating) bracket for a small tv recently for less
than $30 at fry's.

Hi,

Do you have the Epson printer description for OS9 in your Extensions
folder in the OS9 System folder? If not your printer won't appear in
the chooser.

If your Epson is a laser printer its description has to be in the
subfolder Printer descriptions.

I can print from Classic without a hitch.

Good luck, Jörg.

Well, it went better than I thought.
I had two partitions with some data lost (i.e. non backed up) in them; one

some data back on it (I know, silly me).

I run Data Rescue X 10.0.3, and on the first (untouched) partition it found
almost everything, so I was able to recover the missing data. :-)
On the other partition, just garbage... :-/

So, if you happen to erase your disk(s), the old rules still apply: DON'T
write anything on that disk, and try to run a data rescue tool (like Data

You may be lucky. ;-)

On my HD I have five partitions, the first has OSX system and apps on it,

So I run OS9 tools ONLY on non-OSX partitions.

I vaguely recall that there is a way to create a 'print to Postscript' printer
in OS 9; you have to use the Desktop Printer Utility, though. Then you can open
the PS file in OS X with Preview (which converts it on the fly to a PDF) and
print it.

Play around with the DPU. It's been YEARS since I messed about with OS 9.

Poor wireless reception on G4 Aluminum Powerbook

2011-04-13 Thread Bruce - in Orlando
I recently purchased a 12 1.5 Ghz Powerbook on eBay (running OS
10.5.x). The auction description said the Airport Extreme card
doesn't seem to be working correctly. Once I received the laptop, I
figured out that the problem is really that this powerbook has a very
short wireless reception distance - such that when I first powered it
on, sitting at my computer desk about 5 feet from the wireless router
(linksys) it worked just fine. But when I sat with the laptop on the
other side of the same room, about 15 feet from the router, reception
was only fair. Take the laptop to the next room, about 25 feet from
the router, and you're totally out of luck.

So at first I thought the problem must be with the Airport card, so I
bought another one - they aren't very expensive. Now I find that the
reception problem has not changed at all, so the card can't be the
problem.

Can anyone tell me what the real problem is? I'm just hoping it's not
on the motherboard, because they really are expensive.

Well it'll be a pain to fix, but if it's not the airport card, it's the
antenna, which has probably somehow come loose and is not longer functioning
well.

The antenna, iirc, is built into the upper display.

PM 6.5 will export directly from the file menu (file export Adobe PDF) if
Acrobat Distiller is installed. Acrobat Distiller is installed as part of the
PM
6.5 default (Easy Install option). If it is not installed you can install it
from the PM 6.5 installation disk either directly from the Adobe Distiller 3.0
folder or by using custom install and just installing Adobe Distiller.

Short of Distiller there is or used to be a free extensions, one called
Acrobat™
PDFwriter 4.05 and another one called AdobePS 8.8.0 which may be still be
available from Adobe download site. When one or both are installed they will
show up in Chooser as printers. They reside in the OS 9 Extensions folder. I
never had to use them to create a PDF from PM 6.5

For a test I just created a PDF from PM 6.5 while in 10.3.9. Classic mode on a
G4 Sawtooth. I did not have to use Chooser.

There was one or more versions of the PowerBook that had problems with WiFi
range. It was basically a design error (AFAIK). Your model is from around
that period but I don't know specifics. This means that you may never get
acceptable reception.

Make sure your router is using 802.11g, it tends to do better than 802.11b.

You could try a web search to dig up info from back when.

It appears the aluminum PowerBook suffers like the Ti PowerBook did,
bad reception because of metal case (Faraday cage). A few people
bought external antennas from QuickerTek, but they don't seem to make
these any more, and they were very expensive. You can build a homemade
Pringle's can external antenna but this will make your PowerBook look
like some sort of weapon and you'll probably get arrested if you use
it in public, see:

http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448

A USB 802.11n WIFI adapter might be the optimal choice. Get any model
using a Broadcom chipset and it will be recognized as Apple Airport as
long as the correct VID PID are listed in the info.plist of the
Broadcom plugin (AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext) of the IO80211Family.kext.
There's a script available to add all known combinations of VID PID
so that everything works, it's called bcm43xx_enabler.sh. A cheap
USB 802.11n adapter would be both an upgrade and hopefully fix the
reception issue, and as long as it's Broadcom chipset it will
integrate perfectly as if it was regular Apple Airport (remove your
OEM Airport card first, and delete Airport from System
PreferencesNetwork prior to adding the USB adapter. Then reboot with
the USB adapter, go to Network and it should auto-detect the new
Airport hardware and you should be in business.

Usually Graphic Converter opens just about any graphic (bitmap) format.
I checked mine (v. 6.5.2) and I couldn't find a reference to kpx, but you
can download it and try; it's shareware.

I dont have a lot. I tried Preview, Photoshop, Appleworks,
Powerpoint, Enough, (I think thats it) and even tried changing the
file name to .jpg.

Can I email the two files to you?

Thanks.

I have a lot of graphics programs in my shop, if you want to email
me the document(s) and let me know what format you CAN use I will
see if I can convert the file(s) into something you can open.

Thanks Mary, but I went to that site and couldn't get past the page
you are showing. There is no working link to go any further. I
think that site was just saying I had to go buy Kid Pix software.

Re: can't print from os9 classic from g4 mdd

2011-04-13 Thread rumble
i emailed epson support and they said they are going to include os9
drivers for their new printers, but not develop it for my artisan 50.

was there ever a generic epson driver for os9,8,7 etc?

maybe that would some how see my epson?? (or am i hoping for too
much...?)

i just tried exporting as a pdf, but pagemaker is asking me to  select
a postscript printer from the chooser (which i don't have)
and i do  not believe these (or any) newer inkjet printers include
  drivers for os  9.
