And yes, you can boot OS9 from any Quicksilver (you can boot OS9 with ANY G4 PowerMac, actually, save for G4 MDD FW800: only that specific model forbids OS9, others G4 MDD boot OS9 fine) I know at this point I need to find a new zip drive as this one is on it's last leg. ZIPs are way obsolete, you should find plenty around (not many being SCSI, maybe) Just as CD-Rs replaced Zips, for most purposes, even back when a CD-R cost $8.00 and came in a jewel case, DVD5s are replacing CD-Rs. I get name-brand DVD5s for about $0.10 apiece and can store 4700 megabytes on one, which is about 500 times what I could store on my PC's first hard drive. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Latest version of Skype that will work with Tiger
Hi, I wonder which latest version of Skype will work well with the ultimate Tiger version. I tried to update to the latest Skype version which still supports Tiger but it failed to start. My current older version is 2.8.0.851. Should I just stay with this version? The latest Skype version on my Windoze netbook seems to work better, I can give up the number of my mobile phone for example when sending an SMS which isn't supported on my Tiger Mac. Any suggestions? Thanks. Hence, I think any DVD Recorder should be able to burn DVD-5. IIRC, however, Macs can be picky about DVD-R and DVD+R (two different standards), and DVD-R are more Mac-compatible. Re: DVD-5s?
AFAIK, DVD-5s are regular DVD: 5 is short for 4.7GB, while DVD-9 should be Double Layer DVDs (much more expensive), holding approx. 8.5 GB. The original architectural specification was 5.0 GB and 9.0 GB total usable capacity. Along the way, additional error checking codes were added for reliability. The media capacity was not extended, however. This addition, therefore, reduced the usable capacity from 5 GB to 4.7 GB and from 9 GB to 8.5 GB. They are still called DVD-5 and DVD-9, however. Most drives made in the last 5 or so years have had DVD-5 and DVD-9 capability for read and write, and for both - and + media. The one feature which full-featured drives have had, but which has been deleted for reduction in cost, has been DVD-RAM compatibility, sometimes deleting just the write function, sometimes deleting both the write and read functions. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
