Just to remember: Beige G3s can accept PC100 and PC133 memories, and B&W G3s
PC133 too. They will run them at the speed of their motherboard clocks.

The final developer version that runs on a G3 CPU is 9a303a.

The 9a303a version was a tiny update (via Software Update) from the
released 9a303, and it's unlike the update servers still offer this
update, so for all practical purposes 9a303 was the final G3 CPU
version of Leopard.

Does this version can run Classic Environment? And would it be able to

G5 up and running, what about browsers?

2012-07-22 Thread arichic...@gmail.com
Finally got my Dual 1.8 G5 online with an Airlink 101 Wireless N mini
USB Adapter [as suggested on this list], and it is surfing fine.
Couple issues. My Apple Studio flat screen display is only 1024 x 780.
I was using it with an old G4 and Opera 10.10, specifically for one
feature: the fit to width button.

Opera 10.63 seems unstable on the G5 running Leopard, and Opera 10.10
looks outdated. What was the last stable, reliable version of Opera
for PPC? Aurora is fast and stable, but, I am missing a third of every
webpage, having to constantly scroll over. Is there anyway to get
Aurora/Firefox to fit to screen width?

Compared to my G4 I am not having too much trouble playing video right
off the websites. I think my Flash is outdated because I can play
Youtube and Hulu with no difficulty. It was mentioned here though that
there is a way of always getting Quicktime to play video: what is that
utility again?

My agp max with a mx2 32mb card works great, I just have to install with the

card to see if that is the problem if you can swap the ati cars to the cube to
see even if you have to have the cube case off and a fan blowing on the heat
sink to just see the errors. I can say the mx2 non 200 or 400 works great and
faster in nix bench than the rage. The radeon agp Mac edition w/32mb ram boots

Yes, I don’t have any problem at all with Mac OS X 10.0 and 10.0.4, 10.2 and
10.2.8, 10.3 and 10.3.9, 10.4 and 10.4.2 and 10.4.11 as well as with 10.5.1
and 10.5.8. All these Mac OS X versions work great with the nVidia GeForce2
MX400 AGP graphics card, which is BTW from a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver (2001).

The problem is only when booting Mac OS X Server 1.2v3.

I will eventually try that. But I don’t expect to do this anytime soon. I just

Since Apple traditionally installs crappy hard drives, just an upgrade to a
7,200 rpm drive will almost be magical in improvement.

I had a G3 466 Mhz with maxed memory and an 80MB 7,200 rpm drive and effective
disk speed was easily doubled.

The big problem is that the HD is about the last component you get to when
disassembling the laptop...

I put a 64GB Kingspec SSD (dunno read-write specs) into my 400 MHZ Pismo
(Powerbook G3 with Firewire). It reduced boot time and application loading time
by between a quarter and a third, and is totally quiet, giving off no heat - so
I’m happy to go away for a fortnight, leaving the Pismo as a webserver.

The SSD I bought didn’t have tapped holes for the screws that hold on the lugs
to keep the drive in place - no real worry, just a little niggle.

Hope the surgery goes well!

Re: EIDE Interface Speed in Clamshell G3s?

2012-07-22 Thread Richard Gerome

I put a 7200rpm HD in my 466mhz Clamshell and maxed the memory with a
512mb which made it 576mb and it was a major improvement, it runs Tiger pretty
good!!! I would go for the Solid State if I were you because I heard it runs
faster then the 7200rpm? The HD is pretty much the last thing to get to when
taking it apart, get a repair manual for it before you do it, you can download
one for free online just do a search for it. There are a few tricks you need to
know when taking it apart or you could crack some parts trying without it,
there is also a special tool you need to get for it too it's made of plastic...

If you're using POP3, and you changed the settings in your account,
either in your mail client or on Gmail or in the Google Group, it
could be that the system decided to send you everything anew.

I haven't heard of any system-wide glitches from either Gmail or
G.Groups, fwiw. And I'm not seeing such a problem from any of the
G.Groups I'm subscribed.

My inbox is an incoherent mess,

You should be able to clean it up pretty quickly by searching on the

 Tool is called a ‘spudger’

Easily available online for £1.50 (UK) so should be just a few $ in the US

or you can go DIY

Disconnect all external peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and display.
Disconnect all internal peripherals except the boot drive.
Remove any other cards you've added.
Try booting.
If still no bong, then pull all the memory and see if that gets error beeps...
If still no bong, then look to the cpu and power supply.

Compared to my G4 I am not having too much trouble playing video right
off the websites. I think my Flash is outdated because I can play
Youtube and Hulu with no difficulty. It was mentioned here though that
there is a way of always getting Quicktime to play video: what is that

Not sure what you're asking here.

If the web site presents a flash video, then the browser will use the
flash plug-in. For all other video types, QuickTime is called, which
subsequently runs the appropriate codec.
