The AHT images were definitely only included on the second disk that shipped
with the computer (the gray one). Unfortunately, I don't have one of those
disks, but I would second the suggestion that's already been posted in this
thread and see if you can get one of LEMSwap.

Regarding the search for an ASD image, I do remember seeing one floating around
some less-than-reputable places on the 'net awhile back. That said, the reason
it was on one of those less-than-reputable places was that the images are
restricted to Apple Authorized Service Providers. Unless you're working for an
Apple Authorized Service Provider, getting your hands on an ASD image isn't
going to be, strictly speaking, legal.

If you can't purchase an AHT disk off LEMSwap (I can't imagine it would cost
that much), you might want to see if you could take it into an AASP. Many
universities have one and might be willing to run the test for free for a
friend.

I just received my Quad G5, and the Seller was kind enough to include
the grey Tiger Install DIsk which includes my AHT 2.5.2.

I'm going to look at the Black Retail OS X 10.5 DVD that I purchased
a number of years ago, by Restart-ing holding down opt ... if it is
on there, it should appear as a bootable partition, along with my OSs
and the DVDs OS. It is invisible in the FInder.

ASD 2.6.3 has been located also.

Thanks guys!

I don’t know…
On a G5, you can calibrate the processor thermal setting using ASD. Other than
that, you *may* get more hardware information, but I’m not sure.

On a G4, you don’t need to calibrate anything. To my knowledge, AHT is as good
as it gets on a G4.

You can get AHT for all Power Macs G4 from Apple:

Just a thought…

How is it with AHT and ASD?

My *impression* is, that AHT is the part of diagnostics software that is meant
for the customer, and ASD is meant for people doing technical service…

True?

If it is true, and that is my second impression: ASD seems to be the same as
AHT, but with more features (like calibrating things).

True again?

If so, if these assumtions should be right, then all you need really is the
_better_ one: ASD.

With ASD you can do all the thing AHT can do… and more!

Just google for it. That’s how I found it anyway.

Anyone have the AHT 2.5.2 for use with a Quad Core G5 2.5GHz?

I have original media for AHT 2.1.1 (Power Mac G5 Mid-2004 or so) and AHT
2.2.5 (Power Mac G5 Late-2005 i.e. Dual-Core incl. Quad). The problem is, how
should I seperate the AHT part from the Mac OS X installation disc, because
the media is a DVD and up- and download is therefore huge! Also, I don’t want
to give away a full installation disc, but I’m willing to help out with the
AHT part of it.

Does anyone know how to seperate it?

It's supposed to be on an Applications Install DVD that comes with OS X

As I understand it, ASD 2.5.8 is the last and final version for all Power Macs
G5 except for the Late-2005 (Dual-Core CPUs, PCI-Express) series.
And ASD 2.6.3 is the final version for the Late-2005 (including the Quad) G5s.

Google is you friend.

AHT is one of the bootable devices on the OS X Install Disc 1. It can be

 according to Mactracker.

You’re right. I got confused: I have 2.1.1 for the original Power Mac G5
(PowerMac7,2), 2.2.5 for a PowerMac7,3 which is propably the Late-2004 if
Mactrackers database states this, and 2.5.2 for the Late-2005 (PowerMac11,2).

To summarize:
AHT 2.1.1 PowerMac7,2 2003 (CPU: PowerPC970)
AHT 2.2.5 PowerMac7,3 “Late 2004” (CPU: PowerPC 970fx)
AHT 2.5.2 PowerMac11,2 “Late 2005” (CPU: PowerPC 970MP)

Does anyone know how to seperate it?

Is AHT installed on your harddrive? Probably under Utilities?

No, it cannot be installed. At least not that I heared of. It’s a bootable
part on the gray “Install Restore” kind of disc sets that came with the Mac.
I guess it may be just one volume on it, but how to copy just that volume and
retain its functionality? Should it be so easy as to copy just this one
partition (i.e. volume)?

I’m not on a Mac right now, so I cannot check if Disk Utility sees the AHT
partition as one seperate volume that can be copied…

Any suggestions where to get this version of ASD?

Use Google. Use the whole name (not the abbreviation ASD), the version, and
something that looks like “TO RENT” (one letter is missing), and you should be
able to find it. You need of course the right download software to actually get
it, and there has to be at least some_one_ providing it.

Apple --AHT images?

2011-06-13 Thread Charles Davis

I find myself in need of an AHT image for a Dual 2Ghz G5 tower

Haven't been able to locate in Apple's Support area.

Anyone have any pointers?
