Re: [Audyssey] new direct 9

2007-10-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Sean,
What do you mean by Microsoft is no longer supporting Managed DirectX?
Where did you hear or read that information? I certainly haven't heard
anything about this until I read your post.
I just checked the latest runtime setup and all the managed libraries
are there, and they are all up to date builds. I see no evidence at
least from my end that they have dropped managed support.
I do know that the new development kit requires Visual Studio 2005 or
higher, .Net Framework2.0 or higher, and the managed source code samples
have been removed from this SDK, but that is not necessarily out right
dropping support for managed DirectX.
By the way, there are some things that have been officially dropped in
the november release such as Direct Music all versions, Direct Play all
versions, and several DirectX 8 libs have been pulled from the official
release.
Anyway, if you can send me a link for a web page, an official email, etc
that outlines exactly the who, what, when, why, and how the managed dll
files will be dropped I'll be able to answer the question of what next.

Hey Tom;
I thought I would ask this question on list because it might have
consequences for future audio games.
Microsoft is no longer supporting managed dx; what are your plans for the
future?

Thanks

Hi Shaun,
I haven't personally tested Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway with the
DirectX November 2007 release, but from what I have read there shouldn't
be any reason for issues with the game. Most of the changes are graphics
related, and there is nothing to suggest that audio and input should be
effected by upgrading. As far as focus that is not even DirectX related.
As for Montezuma's Revenge having an Easter egg there are none in the
game. What you appear to have discovered is a bug. Thanks for reporting
it as I should be able to fix it in the next release.

Hi Tom,
How about putting the sword on a toggle so a key hit pulls the sword out of
a sheath and it will be used automatically and another a key hit puts it
back in the sheath and it will not be used.

Re: [Audyssey] monty question

2007-10-27 Thread Dark
Hi.

I think this is another instance of tom mirroring the original Monti, and
making the swords useable at will would change the game significantly from
that.

You can jump the enemies without using a sword, - it just takes a litle
practice, sinse you need to jump before your right next to the enemy, but
it's doable.

Beware the Grue!

You can use jaws possibley with any version of jaws. The problem is it won't
work at all with vista. That is when jaws and the intercepts from vista stop
jaws from using accelerator graphics.

She's also very, very much fan service for sighted gamers. *smirk.* That's
why most people like the Tomb Raider games from my experience. In fact,
before you sent this message I wasn't aware there was much to the games
other than showing Lara off. I knew she went looking for things but I didn't

Hi,
Honestly, I think you might be correct that switching swords from
automatic to manual might be the most practical solution for more than
one reason. I've had to make lots of game code exceptions for the swords
and if I take the automatic use out of the loop allot of things would
work better in the game. I will try a manual sword attack in Beta 5 and
see how it goes. What do you think?

Hi,
As of Montezuma's Revenge Beta 4 you have to jump when you are about 3
feet away from the skull, snake, or spider in order to keep from the
sword being used.
Beta 5 will have a feature where you can scan the distance to monsters
as well as the swords won't be used as you are jumping over them.

Hi,

Just downloaded beta 4 and am playing it. The only issue is. There's no
way to save
up swords for use. Every time a skull comes near and I try to leap over
it Joe just
tends to hack it down. Wouldn't it be a lot more of a challenge to let
the skull
get in a certain range and then have the player hack it manually? That
way people
could decide when to use the swords instead of watching them being
usedwithout a
chance of saving them for later?

Keep in mind here that Montezuma's Revenge is an atempt at an audio
based clone of a sighted game by the same name. Using swords
automatically is one of the features of the sighted Montezuma's Revenge.
Personally, I would like to manually use the sword myself, but if I
begin making too many changes like that the game will become so unlike
the sighted game that it will no longer be a clone. In fact, I feel I
have made to many changes already to please the customers rather than

Re: [Audyssey] tomb rader and scw question

2007-10-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,

Quote
I've heard on television in south Africa people talking about the tomb
raider
films where the most popular character is a person by the name of Angela, is
there also an Angela character in the classic tomb raider game or is lara
the only character?
End quote

There is no Angela character in Tomb Raider. The main character for the
movies and games is a female British archaeologist named Lara Croft.
She is very similar to George Lucas's ever popular Indiana Jones character
Though, I kind of think of Lara as a cross between Indiana Jones and
Wonder Woman. She has the brilliant scientist half about her, but she is
like a Wonder Woman like super hero with all kinds of cool acrobatic
moves such as: back flips, safety drops, forward rolls, side flips,
forward jumps, duck, crawl, etc... Basically, very maneuverable.
If her acrobatics were not enough she is a master of weapons including:
pistils, grenade launchers, bows and arrows, shotguns, Magnums, Uzis,
and so on.
In a nutshell Lara Croft is an archaeologist, a treasure hunter, that
searches the world for lost and unusual artifacts. In the first game
Lara Croft is searching for the lost Scian of Atlantice. In the second I
believe she is looking for a magic dagger. In the third game she is
searching for a lost medior with special powers called the Infada Stone.
In the fourth game she is searching for the Armour of Horris to defeat
the Egyptian god Set who she accidentally releases from his tomb in the
game. That is just a few of her popular adventures.

2007-10-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
You can do this, but you have to time your jumping correctly. In
previous betas, you could die if you landed on a skull so you would have
to walk into it to kill it with a sword, but people thought this was too
hard and Tom made it so even if you jump, but if your jump is off, you
will still use a sword. Makes it too easy IMO, but that is just me. So,
my suggestion is to try and time your jumps better.

[Audyssey] monty question

2007-10-27 Thread chou.clement
Disclaimer. May seem like idiotic question and suggestion. Discard if you wish..

Just downloaded beta 4 and am playing it. The only issue is. There's no way to
save up swords for use. Every time a skull comes near and I try to leap over it
Joe just tends to hack it down. Wouldn't it be a lot more of a challenge to let
the skull get in a certain range and then have the player hack it manually?
That way people could decide when to use the swords instead of watching them
being usedwithout a chance of saving them for later?

Re: [Audyssey] Please remove the Sapi-Repayer-programm!

2007-10-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Claudio,
I don't know what antivirus program you are using but it is completely
wrong about the Sapi repair tool, deluserlex.exe, being a virus, trogen,
spyware, etc. I can assure you I would never intentionally redistribute
viruses, trogens, and the like to my customers. I've also personally
used deluserlex.exe to correct Sapi issues on my own computers, and
there have been no ill effects from doing so.
I am sorry but I will not be removing it from the Montezuma's Revenge,
Raceway, and other game instalations it will be shipping with unless I
can be given substantial proof that it is virus or trogen infected.

Hi Nicol,
I think Claudio was simply mislead by his antivirus software. Some of
the antivirus software out there is very good, some are terrible, and
some flag software based on some extremely paranoid set of scanning rules.

[Audyssey] Moderator warning: Piracy on list.

2007-10-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi listers,
As of the last few hours a few of the members of this list have been
attempting to pass around links to illegal copies of Microsoft Flight
Simulator 2002 on this list. As you might recall the list guide lines
states that illegal piracy of software on list will not be tolerated by
the list management. Thankfully, the two listers involved in this
illegal software piracy were already on list moderation, and the
moderators were able to block the messages from going through, and I
will be discussing with my fellow list managers what if anything else
should be done with the software pirates.
I would like to leave this point with everyone on list. Sharing software
product keys, cracks, etc is illegal by the laws of the USA. No matter
what your personal view is on the topic we as the list management uphold
the laws of the United States on this list, we protect companies
intellectual property rights, and we do not allow software pirates the
right to share such information with others on list. Depending on what
punishment the list management chooses such action can land a member of
this list on temporary or full time moderation, and if we feel it
necessary the member may be band from the list. Keep that in mind when
you consider pirating on list. Repeat offenders will be band, and they
will not be allowed to return.

Just wondering how folks have been getting along with the newest

much better then my normal stats. MR97, st 104, nv 22.

Hay I have to agree with the listers here man. I had never gotten a virus
from those two developers and make sure your virus program isn't just saying
it's a virus sometimes spywear and virus programs can conflict with
different types of programs so check your program settings and make sure
that it isn't a program error.

sincerely,
Jason

[Audyssey] tomb rader and scw question

2007-10-27 Thread nicol
HI ALL
I can remember thom is planning a tomb rader game for the future. I've
heard on television in south africa people talking about the tomb rader
films where the most popular character is a person by the name of angela, is
there also an angela character in the clasical tomb rader game or is lara
the only character? Phil, I feel there is something in the sarah game that
takes away some challenge. Hopefully this has been fixed in the patch yet
to be released. I have noticed that when I eat a sweet I buy from the honey
dukes shop, that sweet doesn't disappear from my inventory after I've eaten
it, so I can eat that sweet again and again and again, it never disappears
from my inventory. so that means that I then have unlimited magical energy.
it takes away a game's challenge if the player have unlimited health/energy.
although sarah is not as violent type of fps game as sod, it should also
have the challenge of only limited magical energy, so that the player have
to be carefull avoiding being touched by the ghosts too much.

Re: [Audyssey] flightsimulator

2007-10-27 Thread Michael Maslo
Hi:

Well you can get fs 2002 from ebay or any on line place. I got it for
$10.00.

The rest of the programs do cost a little. For example the fs uipc costs
$35.00. PM sonds is free and fs navigator is 35.00. The FDC costgs some
money but not sure on ow much it is.

I have the programs and they work nicely. The fact that aws has a prolem in
seeing or the video chain makes the screen go blank. I am forced to use
window eyes though another person on this list has made aws work fine. I
wish I could but don't know how ot make it work. I even tried a older
version of aws but still was unale to make it work.

Re: [Audyssey] new directx 9

2007-10-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,
I haven't personally tested Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway with the
DirectX November 2007 release, but from what I have read there shouldn't
be any reason for issues with the game.

Re: [Audyssey] marls wood in shryth?

2007-10-27 Thread Dark
Hi.

With respect no Marl's wood certainly is not down! my character is currently
resting there right now, and I finished the bat cave there just before
I opened outlook express.

to find Marl's wood:

1: go to southwestern tysa and there will be two links, Select "the hart
hills"

2: There are now four links to go to the different villages, "the village of
Hawklor" "the village of Durnsig" "the village of Conir" and right at the
bottom as shaddowdragon said "the village of Marls' wood"

3: once you have used "the village of Marls' wood" link, you'll have a page
with only one travel link (another location becomes available here later,
but I won't spoil it for you if you haven't been there). The link is "enter
Marls' wood"

4: Now we have the travel page, with one more link "Proceed to Marls' wood"
And there we go!

I can absolutely and totally and utterly confirm that it's working and stil
there, so if your failing to find it, it might be a page display or screen
reader issue rather than something in the actual game.

Oh finally as to the glowing goblin, he was a random encounter that happened
occasionally while wandering trythic (though my character never managed to
run into him). Unfortunately, he was only available for a limited time,
about 24 hours I think. It's possible the Gm will have him turn up again in
the future (I certainly hope so, I want the bonus he dropped), but at the
moment you can't find him.

hth.

Beware the glowing goblin eating Grue!

Dark.

You must've been looking in the wrong place. As for the glowing goblin,
yeah, that event was only a one week thing.
