Re: [Audyssey] Sryth bits

2007-10-29 Thread Dark
Hi ron.

an Mr of past 100 would certainly help in both cases I think. for the bunt,
what are you at at the moment?

I'd recommend at least 60 or above.

also, shaddowmagic is probably the best power in fights against hard
opponents these days, so you might considder putting some Xp into that,
ekitrina is currently lvl 62 in shaddowmagic, and hopefully if more Xp is
forthcoming it'll get higher.

Hth.

Hi Charles,

I just had a very lucky game. Every shot went well and I didn't miss one
putt. So it was just one of those good rounds. Well except for that one
hole.

That golf file is named golflog.txt and will be in the c:\program
files\kitchensinc folder.

There is now a similar file for the baseball game named BaseballScore.txt.

I guess that I should have the football game create one as well.

Re: [Audyssey] XAudio2 - was: new directx 9

2007-10-29 Thread Davy Kager
Yeah, of course you already have a working game with a big engine behind it
and so on. However, it might be interesting for any new projects. I think
I'll wait till February or so and then see how the bugs are doing. Obviously
you'd drop support for everything before WinXP, which may be a bad idea.

Hi Davy,
Personally, I would still use DirectSound 9, and wait for Microsoft to
get the bugs worked out of XAudio, Xac, and XInput. The technologies are
new, primarily for XBox developers, and many of the bug fixes between
Auggust 2007 and November 2007 relate directly to those libraries so
they are not what ai would consider production quality yet. Think about
it a moment. DirectInput, DirectSound, etc are at version 9 and the XBox
libraries is at version 2. Hmmm... Which one is likely to be the more
stable choice here?
I think as far as USA Games is conserned, now that I got the bomb shell
of MDX going south, I will convert my code to support the DirectX 9 com
components.

Re: [Audyssey] Football Star

2007-10-29 Thread Orin
Hi Ian,

I think people are missing my point here. I mean, I didn't say I was developing
a football game, I said that I found a pretty cool web based one where, instead
of controling teams, you control your own indevigual player on the field etc
and who knows, depending on the manager you may not play every match.
Just wanted to make this clear. Altough, since we're talking about it, I agree
with what Arie has said thus far. But in responce to joining a team, I don't
think I'll be controling one in this game anytime soon.

Load runner is I believe, actually an old game developed in the 80's for
tapedrive computers such as the Zx spectrum, (or in the case of Ian's
version, tthhe aple).it seems to have been very popular, and has recieved a
good few sited remakes I believe.

as Ian says, i believe it's deffinately a game involving quick reactions,
but as we all know that's not a problem in audio. the main trouble that
occurs to me with Load runner though, is the problem of overview.

the game is similar to monti, in that you play a character climbing ladders,
jumping betwene ledges and collecting treasures in 2D, but the main
difference is that you have the power to remove blocks in the ledges in
front of you. Monsters continuously charge streight at you, often with no
room for you to jump, so strategically removing the floor in order to make
them fall is your only defence. the problem is of course, once you've
removed the floor, you have a fairly big risk of trapping yourself in.

the main difficulty that occurs to me with load runner in particular, is
that you really need a major overview of the entire map in one fell swoop,
so that you can know which floors are and are not safe to remove, and when
you need to wait for the monsters to pass you, and when it's safe to run for
it.

I'm not saying this is an unsummountable problem, or that an audio version
of Load runner would be impossible, only that thinking about how the game
works, I can't personally come up with a workable solution in audio at this
point, sinse there's a very large amount of vertical and horizontal
information in the game to represent, which you need to be continually aware
of in a strategical sense.

there are however quite a number of games in that style, which it strikes me
would be incredibly easy to convert into audio in a similar fashion to
Monti, such as Manic miner, jet set willy, Pitfall, or of course, the
original Donkey Kong game from the good old Nes, not to mention more
modern games such as Prince of Persia.

Perhaps Ian might considder doing one of those at some point? given Monti, i
deffinately can see how they would be possible in audio, and it's
entirely probable that in the case of Load runner, there's something that
just hasn't occurred to me as well.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] load runner

2007-10-29 Thread nicol
Hi all
Ian humphreys from spoonbill games developed a game for the sighted people,
almost like monte, its also a game with ladders and treasures.
I've asked him about the game, if he can make it for blind people, ian says
its too difficult to make it for blind people as the game needs very good
hand eye coordination.
It would be great if somebody like thom could assist ian in developing a
load runner game for the blind.

Hi Claudio.

I'm very sory, but I have lost the danish version. I'll ask my danish

Regarding the 3d sound, I recommend you to try the game with headphones.
It's an amazing 3d sound you'll get.

Hi Orin,
First, is this our football or American football? How accessible is it, are
you just starting out? Maybe, if you're still trying to work stuff out, I
should join your team, the whole blind thing? This is one point I wish
accessible game developers in other countries would really take seriously,
but I do not mean just one or two people, I mean the whole blind community.
I can understand why football is not so great for our American brothers,
but, large European blind organisations like RNIB, ONCE and others should
really work together and make a cool football game, one that would have real
players, clubs, World Cup, Champion's League, great AI, easily updated
everytime for new players, online playability, commentary, etc. Practically,
I think that would benefit the whole blind world, in that football is an
international game. There is super Football, but I really don't count that
as propper football, in that it's more a sort of bord thing with fixed
positions. I don't know the exact ways in which a football game could work,
but I imagine things like you can run with the ball, defenders would be
sounds, react before you get tackled kind of thing, the nearer you are to an
oponent's goal the louder the crowd would get, I know it would be probably
quite a large project, but it would really be worth it with people
combining, especially as not much is going into developing games these days,
in the way that no new bord or any games have come out for ages from these
large organisations. Every year, the organisations could raise funds by
charging for an update with the latest players and stats. Perhaps Richard or
someone powerful in the audio games community who have contacts with these
organisations should really suggest it to them. I might be sounding totally
mad, but football is the world sport, all sporty blind people would surely
appreciate it?

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's full puppy golf course

2007-10-29 Thread Charles Rivard
Thanks for the info. Adding that feature to the football game might be a
good idea, too. I like that game, too, but it takes a while to play a game,
as it should, because football cannot be played in a few minutes, so this is
not a complaint of the game, and things get sort of busy at times, so I only
play it once in a while.

[Audyssey] Facebook games

2007-10-29 Thread ari
Hi all,
Has anyone tried any of the games on Facebook, any good results or news? I
would love to find something that I can play against my sighted friends. How
about Myspace? I've been having a terrible time signing up to it because of the
Captcha. I wrote to them explaining that I couldn't see it, then they wrote
back saying that my profile wasn't found on the system, then I wrote again
saying that how did they expect me to create a profile because of the captcha,
and that I couldn't see it because of the whole blind thing, then they wrote
back again saying that if I was having captcha problems, it could be that, was
I maybe not typing it in correctly! How daft! I then wrote back for the third
time explaining all about screenreaders again, but have got no answer for the
past week. Really hope some games could be created to work on those platforms,
what great meeting tools, we could have this huge audyssey group playing games.

[Audyssey] Football Star

2007-10-29 Thread Orin
Hi all,

I just found this really cool game called Planitarium Football Star. This is
not your standard "team management game".

However, what it is is a game where you create a character who is humanly
controled by you, join it into a squad of players and play for the best. Yes,
that's right. You control your own player, not just a team, however you can do
that as well if you get FSFan, it's kinda like Hattrick Supporter and that. You
could with FSFan control 1 team and talk with your humanly controled players
and things, line them up, and since they're human, if they don't like the
manager or something they'll leave and find other teams. This is what's
interesting about this game. You could also control a player in another team
both at the same time. However with the free package you can only control a
player which I think is enough for me.

What's really cool is that each team has some item of transport, and each
player can have one too and basically if he gets put on the transfer list and
if someone buys that player he'll have to physically travel over there where
the team is to join up with them. Also there's this whole relationship thing
where you can meat girls and soon have children who join youth squads... the
posibilites are endless here. Check it out at:
http://www.footballstar.org

Enjoy!

Hi Jim,
That seams to be the major problem with AT&T voices. Since they are
recorded voice samples rather than sinthesised they are unable to
correctly speak words that is outside there dictionary. That is why I
mainly stick to voices like Scansoft which sound good and have a higher

Hi Jim,
Not to mention Microsoft is making it more difficult for developers to
easily accomplish online based games. Direct Play, Microsoft's
long-time, network gaming component just got canned in the November 2007
release of DirectX 9.0C.
that forces the would be network game developer to completely write a
network based solution from scratch using the winsock API. Frankly, that
sucks, and it is one reason I am not currently doing a network version
of Raceway.

If computers are our tool, how come we have to take classes to learn to do it

pronounce well for that. It is weird that every time that I switch
synthesizers I meet a bunch of new people. Like when I went from the
Accent SA to Eloquence and now to AT&T Crystal. But it also happens if I
switch to other sapi5 voices as well.

One old friend is better than two new ones.

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's full puppy golf course

2007-10-29 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Charles,

I just had a very lucky game. Every shot went well and I didn't miss one putt.
So it was just one of those good rounds. Well except for that one hole.

That golf file is named golflog.txt and will be in the
c:\program files\kitchensinc folder.

There is now a similar file for the baseball game named BaseballScore.txt.

I guess that I should have the football game create one as well.

You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why

2007-10-29 Thread Claudio
Dear Ari!
I can gife you right, the blind eye is a very goot projeckt!
But the problem wit the walls is a grand buuk!
Its a pitty tat developers have not continued working at tis projeckt.
I hope, an oter game developer take tis projeckt and lok for continuing.
But i tink the problem is not if you play the danish-version of tis game.
Ari, can you search in the internet for the danish version?
Im very interesting.
I tink an oter site provide tis game.
Tis is a buk tat is in the english version not in the danish!!!
I have an oter goot idea for this projeckt.
If you walk truck the citty you can take a trayn or a tramm!
Hihihihihi!
That's a goot idea!!!
Or a multyplayer-version of the game.
You must find more instruments tan your opponent!!!
Yea!!!
