I only thought they went up to 96. though I haven't exactly made much of an
inroad on them, a copy of others (if there are others), would be nice.

Out of interest, why does gma only host up to 96?

beware the grue!

Subject: [Audyssey] Lone Wolf missions

Hello everyone. All the kids are off to sleep and we are now waiting for
Santa to make his appearance. In the mean time I thought I'd play a few
Lone Wolf missions. I only have up to missions 96 however. I believe
that either Don V or someone else on this list has the others. The
downloads for missions above 96 are not on the GMA games site so if
anyone has the rest from 97 on up through the lettered missions, I would
appreciate a link to get them from, or, since they are small, an e-mail
attached zip file should do the trick.

 Many thanks.

 Hi folks,
First off I'll just say happy holidays to everybody on here. But I've got
a qestion regarding using Monkey Business on a laptop. I was most
delighted to learn that the game now included a demo. Since I lost my old
reg code (and in any case I bought it from Adora using a different Email
and therefore don't know if i could get a replaement), I haven't been able
to play the game. That and both the computers on which I had the game
installed are now dead. Anyway, yesterday I was feeling rather nostalgic
and so I downloaded the MB demo. I have but one problem. as we all know,
the key for quickly turning to face the opposite direction is the Numpad
Insert key, otherwise known as Zero. Well, most laptops, mine included,
don't have such a key. Is there an alternate keystroke for that function
or, failing that, a way to somehow configure the keyboard? Thanks for any
help you can give me. I really enjoyed this game and would love to get
back into it, but my only computer right now is the laptop.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

[Audyssey] future boy first impressions

2007-12-25 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
Well for christmas I got future boy, here are my first impressions.
1. the manuals.
Good you need to get textpal from www.empowermentzone.com/palsetup.exe if you
are going to have any hope of getting a readable file.
If you don't then you will get lines running together, there is also a garbage
line at the top of the document which could be some ansi code that tp does not
recognise, you can safely delete it.
NOt that you really need the manual.

The registration page is weird.
when you get to the part about which os, how do you put a check mark in the
form, I just put my os on the first line of the os section and answered yes in
the bracketed fields although I'd have thought that there actually be a
registration program not a manual one.
Oh since i have brought the game what are the benifits on registering the game
its not like you need to put in any activation key or anything.

2. the game.
Its real good, and the hints are good with all the humor.
One note is that the game does not display all hints only on a situation by
situation basis.
Thats fine unless you forget what the heck you need or you are not aware on
what you need.
This has lead after 4 hours of game play to me doing something out of order
because I had no idea of the order at the time and I had to restart because I
now am missing something I needed before.
And unfortunately this will now have to wait for another time as there are more
selebrations to go to and being boxing day and all the sales I actually need
new shoes and things.
I am also dissapointed that there is no sapi5 or better support.
Do not use sapi4 unless you have something remotely good like viavoice or
something, actually its easier to use hal orpheus.
And thats another thing., I can't get the game to read in jaws 6.20, only hal.
There is also a graphics menu at the start which I mannaged to somehow get to
stay off the screen.
I also turned graphics off.

My over all opinion is this game is worth playing, and buying, hugo is the most
accessible engine I can see.
The game play area seems to be above the menus though which is a godsend for
hal.
Also is the fact that only the current screen of text is shown.
The game has shortcommings however, however I wish there were more like it,
maybe I will be getting more hugo adventures from now on, Previously I had pc
exe files dos, frotz and tads, but getting access in the os windows reminds me
more of the os than the game, as I need to focus on navigation rather than
actual gameplay and I can't get emerced in the actual gameplay.
Another note to viewing the trailers and things.
Don't view the trailer file view the normal file.
I presume that most of you use mediaplayer classic in the klite mega codec
pack, the large file will not view, I've tried it.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Business on the Laptop?

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Also you can always buy an external usb number pad which are pretty
inexpensive additions for laptops. I always carry one in my laptop case
at all times for just a case as we are talking about. Using the fn key
is a quick fix, but not always practical.

Raul A. Gallegos wrote:
Press fn and M at the same time and that will simulate an insert. For
that matter, pressing fn turns the right side of the alphabet keyboard
into a number pad. You can google around for the keyboard layout
exactly, but basically the M is the zero key, jkl are 123, uio are 456,
and 789 are 789 as if it was a number pad. All while holding down the fn
key which if the laptop is a good one, will be located at the bottom
left edge of the keyboard. I've seen laptops which don't have it here
and I've not purchased them for that exact reason. Of course, you can
always get an external USB foldable keyboard or a USB floppy keyboard
which you can roll up, spit on, throw up on, or lick if you choose, and
 it will still work.

 Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan,
No, only the 19 book New Jedi Order series features them. That was bad
enough for everone involved. Several characters got killed off, Jacen
sshould have been but wasn't, the New Republic was defeated and
destroyed, etc. The next series, Dark Nest, involves a civil war in one
of the outer outer systems witch Jacen and Jaina accidently provoke
after Jacen gets it in his head he has to try and prevent. That series
is followed by Legacy which is about the Correlians desire to with drawl
from the alliance, and Jacen turns to the dark side and starts killing
off Jedis including my favorite Mara.

I should note that laptops only have a fn or footnote key.
mine is just to the left of the alt key inbetwene the control and alt keys.
Desktop keyboards do not have this because of a numpad to the right of the
board as with laptops the numpad is overlayed.

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Games game Engine.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
Yes, using something like the GMA Engine would certainly simplify the
amount of work you have to do. The core features you need such as
DirectX are built in to the Engine. However, the GMA Engine does not
come cheaply.
You can buy a trial version of the engine to demo for $50.00 USD. If you
then want to develope using the engine you have a variety of licencing
plans. A. you can buy the engine outright for $2000 USD. B. You can give
GMA %25 of all of your sales using the engine. C. I think a yearly
subscription is like $300 yearly. I think someone like Phil could fill
you in on the specifics of the engine.
However, GMA isn't the only one who is working on an engine. USA Games
is working on the Genesis Engine which is based up on Microsoft .Net
technology, supports Managed DirectX 9, Sapi 5, and has a game designer
form which is similar to the AGM designer except Genesis supports true
3D environments.
One thing that sets Genesis apart from other engines is that you get
this really cool level editor which is easy to use. For example, when
the level editor starts you get a blank, 100, by 100, by 100 grid. You
can arrow to coordinates 0 0 0 and then press d to bring up the drawing
tool. Lets say you want that to be a wall. Select wall from the drop
down menu and it will be drawn in coordinates 0 0 0. Now, you want the
square above that to be a wall as well. Arrow up to 0 1 0 and repete the
wall drawing instructions above.
You can create enemies just as easily. You can press o for game objects,
select an enemy object and drop it on the form anywhere you want to.
Then while you are on the enemy object press enter to get a list of
properties to change like attack damage, defense values, etc.

Kuvvosh wrote:
I've been sitting here, wondering what is required to create a game using a
game engine that has already been designed.

Also, was wondering how much would it cost to aquire the engine for creation
of a game, or is it available upon request?

I know most game require Direct X and .Dot Net programming. But, figured it
would be easier if the game engine is already built and maybe just working
on the objects, behavior, and effects moduals, would be much easier then
creating a whole new game engine.

 Thanks for any information.

Hi Bryan,
Double that. To buy the engine outright with unrestricted use David is
asking for $2000 for the engine. Though, as I mentioned in other

Either way it is pretty expensive. I'm working on my own engine, but I

Hi Claudio and all,
Right now it is too soon to put a price tag on the Genesis 3D Engine I
am working on, but I do think it is going to be pretty revolutionary as
far as game engines go. Unlike other engines Genesis is designed to
target the end user with little to know programming skills while
supporting the latest gaming technologies for Windows.
I confess I have used a few ideas from AGM, released earlier this year,
but unlike AGM my engine will recieve commercial tech support, will
frequently be upgraded to support new games, and keep up with the latest
changes in technology.
However, one thing I will say that the engine is primarily designed to
make games in the First Person shooter genre. Games like Half Life,
Toomb Raider, Star Wars Jedi Knight, Resident Evil, Halo, Quake, Star
Trek Elite Force, are examples of the types of games you could make with
this thing.

[Audyssey] Genesis 3D was GMA game Engine.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
I will certainly keep the list posted as news up Genesis 3D becomes
available.
Now, as for a level module can you explain that a little more? Genesis
3D already has a level editor which the developer gets to add new levels
to the game. Obviously, I can't allow the outsiders access to the level
editor as they would be able to reverse engineer and change elements of
your games. Though, perhaps some sort of pass word security is necessary
in this instance. Setting a password for a level should not be hard though.

[Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-25 Thread Kuvvosh
One thing I have to say Thomas, I'm glad that your games put every files in
a folder structure. As I have stressed this to several people on problems
with there games having to slow down and find the files and so forth. Not
only that, it makes working on a game much easier to find the file that is
causing the bug, and to correct it then going through 1k of files in a
single folder.

Sure computers are fast, but, NT file system hates it when you got nearly 1K
of single files in one folder and isn't organized. When you throw a folder
with 1K of individual files onto a hard drive, all those files are basically
scattered across the drive, even after defragging, which causes the head to
go nuts on locating a file. When organized, it helps a lot for the NT file
system to be able to locate the folder name and files when placed on
separate folders.

Right now, the one game I somewhat got in the works is going to have nearly
3K of files alone give or take a few hundreds. I just hope that the game
engine is going to be able to handle a large world, I'm considering a world
with a grid base of 1k by 1K square. Each square being at least 12 feet
square. Roughly 24,000 square feet. *Grin* and that's only the world map
lol Then the dungeons alone going to be a different story.

Peace

[Audyssey] Genesis 3D was GMA game Engine.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Claudio,
No programming knolege is needed to create games with Genesis 3D. You
litterally build entire games using built in tools to drag and drop
objects around on the map. Once placed you can open a properties dialog
to change the objects settings. For example, lets use an example of a door.
You know you want a door at 75 1 75. Ok, arrow to the location with the
arrow keys. Press o and you will get a list of possible objects. Arrow
to door, and press enter. Now, an object called door 1 will be at 75 1
75. Press e, for edit, and you will be given a list of properties to
change. For example, locked or unlocked, open or closed, audable, name
of door 1, etc...
As far as the ability to create racing games probably not with 1.0. I've
learned that if you try to add everything at once, try and support too
many features, the product becomes very buggy and difficult to manage.
The bigger the project the more errors I am likely to encounter.
So with 1.0 I plan to select a specific type of game (FPS,) and try and
make it reliable enough to create the kinds of games sighted people
play. later new types of games can be added to the engine.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
Well, setting a world of 1000 by 1000, by 1000 isn't going to be a
problem. I can make the grid size flexable.
However, the thing you need to be careful with is not making your worlds
too large. If you make them too large with too many audible objects you
will eventually out strip the average users resources to play the game.
For example, Sarah crashes my laptop because it uses too many resources
on my laptop. I have to edit the sound.ini file and change the games
default buffers from 50 to 30 in order to keep it from crashing. It is
not that Sarah is a bad game, but it eats up way too many resources and
has too many sounds going at once for my laptop to cope.
As a result I've learned that you need to try and play it safe with
memory in order to make your games functional on most computers.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-25 Thread Kuvvosh
Hi Thomas.

Yes I understand this. If you ever played Ever quest or WOW, that is the
general Idea I'm wanting to work with. I know it's possible to do these
games in sound based, if the Game engine supports the tools needed to do it.

I know the sound limit is a big factor, as the world I would create wouldn't
have that many sounds, until you get to say a group of trolls or a entrance
to a dungeon.

Maybe you could implement a auto detect sound modual into the engine to down
grade it self if it sees that the user computer is lagging behind or unable
to handle 32 tracks of sounds at once and so forth?

Sounds like you are making this game engine to beat the snot out of AGM lol.
Can't wait to know when you got a beta ready. I would gladly test it out
for you and such.

Peace

One thing I have to say Thomas, I'm glad that your games put every files

a folder structure. As I have stressed this to several people on problems
with there games having to slow down and find the files and so forth.
Not
only that, it makes working on a game much easier to find the file that is
causing the bug, and to correct it then going through 1k of files in a
 single folder.

Sure computers are fast, but, NT file system hates it when you got nearly
1K
of single files in one folder and isn't organized. When you throw a
folder
with 1K of individual files onto a hard drive, all those files are
basically
scattered across the drive, even after defragging, which causes the head
to
go nuts on locating a file. When organized, it helps a lot for the NT
file
system to be able to locate the folder name and files when placed on
 separate folders.

Right now, the one game I somewhat got in the works is going to have
nearly
3K of files alone give or take a few hundreds. I just hope that the game
engine is going to be able to handle a large world, I'm considering a
world
with a grid base of 1k by 1K square. Each square being at least 12 feet
square. Roughly 24,000 square feet. *Grin* and that's only the world
map
lol Then the dungeons alone going to be a different story.

 Peace

[Audyssey] Audio games under Windows Vista?

2007-12-25 Thread Demetry
Hi all.

First: I wish you all merry christmas and holidays.

Second: I am a new member in this list here. I am very interesting for
audio games :)

As I had installed Windows XP for example I played the game Judgment
Day. But now under Windows Vista it calls an error message: Run time
error '429'. An ActiveX control can't be created.
How it possible this game to playing again, or is an patch for Vista
created already?

Thanks.

Best regards,

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
Hmmm.. I'd have to think about that some. Obviously, some of the
features you are asking for would be practical in all types of FPS
games. For example armour classes, defence values for certain enemies,
dinamic melee ratings based on the weapon you are using, etc would be
very useful. However, the engine is not specifically going to be a
typical DND dice throwing RPG engine.
However, I do plan to add some sort of special powers which are optional
which could be used in making a magical type game or equally could fit
in a Star Wars typ game. For example the lightning option could be used
between two wizards or two Jedi. Same goes for illusion, distract,
blinding, etc.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kuvvosh,
Actually, Genesis 3D uses a different methodology for handling the sound
problem. What you have to do is define areas, sound regions, which are
used by the game to load certain sounds on the fly.
For example let us say you declare room 2 area 2 in your sound region.
There are 5 enemy trolls in that room, a key, and a torch. The second
you enter that sound region the previous rooms sounds are unloaded and
the new rooms sounds are loaded. So the sound buffers that previously
held wav files for a Goblin, Troll, and a Dragon just got replaced by
your 5 trolls. The sound of the sound of a scroll in room 1 might have
just been replaced by your key in room 2.
This is one of the things that makes Genesis 3D more advanced than GMA
or AGM. If you use the sound regions that selects sounds based on area
the games should run fast and with as little system resources as possible.

Maybe you could implement a auto detect sound modual into the engine to down
grade it self if it sees that the user computer is lagging behind or unable
to handle 32 tracks of sounds at once and so forth?

Sounds like you are making this game engine to beat the snot out of AGM lol.

Is there any chance on the percentange of the engine completion?

Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] Genesis 3D was GMA game Engine.

2007-12-25 Thread Kuvvosh
Hi Thomas.

Well, I know this engine is far from being done. But, As long as there is a
way to gain levels from killing monsters and such. I know you would need to
make a XP Modual, Spell Modual, and a Combact Modual, that will take in
account for the effects of the spells and melee hit points and armorment.

Not to mention the Mana Modual that would need to be add so when a caster
cast a spell it takes from the mana score, and give or take a modual that
would tie everything into the player modual as far as spells cast on person
and magical equipment.

I'm not expecting all this to be added in the first released of the engine,
but I would be glad to help along the way, as far as testing and so forth.

Hi Kuvvosh,

 Hi Josh,
Basically, yes. Genesis 3D is going to be a much much more advanced
engine than AGM. It is going to have all the bells and wistles AGM lacks
such as encrypted levels, the ability to save games, a hot key to speak
your direction, keys to announce distance and direction to objects and
enemies, etc. Like I said everything I wanted in AGM and it just wasn't
 there.

 Hi Claudio,
No programming knolege is needed to create games with Genesis 3D. You
litterally build entire games using built in tools to drag and drop
objects around on the map. Once placed you can open a properties dialog
to change the objects settings. For example, lets use an example of a
 door.

Yea no kidding bryan , I seen your post there countless times. I was so
hopeing that engine would be able to do the game I want, but what a joke. I
was able to make one game with it, and gave up after that, I made my person,
and then gave him a gun, and had a chicken 10 foot away, and you could sit
there and shoot the chicken over and over that was it. They needed to just
shut down that site and hang it up if they not going to work on it any more.

Once I go to the hearing doc tomorrow, and get these new hearing aids. I'll
be able to start back up on my sound studio. I've to wait for nearly a year
before they would get me new hearing aids.

thus, I have not been able to do any sound recording, I got 4 projects on
hold at the moment.

I was hopeing to get them earlier to maybe help Thomas with a title song for
the game he is working on. Guess, I'm kind of Late on that. Maybe I can
come up with one for the boss match, or Level?

I got to finish one of my albums soon, it's nearly done so we'll see.

Sincerely;

Kuvvosh

 Hi Kuvvosh,
Yes, using something like the GMA Engine would certainly simplify the
amount of work you have to do.

Also, was wondering how much would it cost to aquire the engine for

I know most game require Direct X and .Dot Net programming. But, figured
 it
would be easier if the game engine is already built and maybe just
 working
on the objects, behavior, and effects moduals, would be much easier then
creating a whole new game engine.

 Thanks for any information.

Hi Raul!

Yes, I have all the missions. David is in the process of adding the
other missions to the gam list. The reason why it has taken so long is the
gam engine is designed to allow only 99 user made missions. The others I
have I had numbered 99a, 99b , 99c and so on but we are not going to use
that idea. We are going to start the next batch of missions from 1 through
99. I will send yu the other missions in the next day or 2. But, they will
be numbered 1 and upward so you will have to make another lone wolf folder
and place the new user made missions in that folder. I have 3 lone wolf
folders. I just made copies of the original.
I discovered that you have to start with number 1 in the folder for if you
don't the game will lock up. You cannot start with 2 or upward. I will
send you a list of all the mission messages also. Oh, the messages will have
the writer and difficulty of the mission, also.
