Ah, you heard from the developer eh? I noticed in the newest update that
he's made it so you can at least click on planet names and system names to
travel. Its a start. But you still can't use the main control panel. This
guy seems to be very open to accessibility ideas though, so I don't think
he'll drag his feet on it. After all, he is running a small business, so
 he
needs every purchase he can get, heheh.

 Hi list:

I just wrote and heard from the developer of smugglers and he said now
 that
he is working on smugglers 4 to make it accessible but now looks like a
 few
weeks before he will get it out. Hopefully that will be true and not turn
 in
 to months.

[Audyssey] Puppy1

2008-07-14 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi,

I have put Puppy1 version 2 up on my site.

File name winpup2.exe File size 2.3 meg.

In version 2 I added adjustable wind volume, the space bar does the same as the
right control key, more scoring information, exit information and a speaker
check. I also fixed the out of range error as well as the menu and
instructions delays and more.

The file can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page.

The price isn't so bad, I didn't need goblindoom any longer so that's 3500
right there. Add that to what you get for the cup and you're more than half
way there. Very worth it in my oppinion. I'm looking for something better
now though. My MR has been stuck at 67 for a long time. It's served me quite
well but things are getting a little sticky now. I've been quite glad for
the quickstone each day for a while. Any ideas? I missed my chance in

Hi Bryan,
well, yes and no. 7500 seams like a lot, but before i invested in some
top of the line armer I had 55000 in gold I didn't know what to do with.
so as a part of that sum of gold I purchased the Hale blade to try it out.
In terms of weapons the Hale blade's healing properties have been very
helpful. It does make up somewhat for what it lacks in mr.

Nice work, Jim. I like the added scoring info. I would like the space bar

Hello all,
I don't post here much, but I do read each and every message that comes across
the list, but due to the mass amount of mail I get i can't get around to
writing much.
Anyhow, onto the content of my message.
I have gotten back into top speed 2, but i can't find the documentation to
create cars and tracks, and the community at:
http://community.playinginthedark.net

doesn't seem to be around anymore, and that's where i got a lot of my cars,
tracks, and other documentation to create the cars and tracks.
Does anyone have or know where i can obtain the information I need to create
cars and tracks, and where i can get more cars and tracks for topspeed2?
thanks for any assistants that can be offered.
sincerely,

[Audyssey] Maniac Mansion?

2008-07-14 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hi all,
Over the past few days I've been browsing Wikipedia looking at their info on
old NES games I used to play or watch my siblings play. There are quite a few
games that I'd forgotten about but was reminded of during my search for others.
One such game was Maniac Mansion, developed by Lucas Arts originally for the
computer but later ported to such systems as the old NES. Just a little while
ago I got to thinking about how easy or hard it would be to create a game like
that for the blind gaming market. Technically it might be fairly easy since it
uses a point and click, menu-based style of gameplay like in the Bavisoft
games. You click a verb and then an object or person. You might have the usual
verbs like take, use, talk to and stuff like that. So you'd click, let's say
Use Toilet. If you made a logical combination you would perform the action.
But Maniac Mansion was very much a humorous title. The premise was that a mad
scientist, Fred Edison, lived in a mansion with his wife Edna and his son Ed.
Twenty years ago a sentient, alien meteor crashed near his house and took
control of his mind. It decided to use Fred to invent a machine to steal the
brains of the young people of Earth. That's where you came in. You played as
Dave, a college kid out to rescue his girlfriend Sandy from the Edisons'
mansion. But you couldn't do italone, so you enlisted the aid of two other
friends, whom you'd choose from a roster of six at the start of the game. Each
characer had his/her own strengths, weaknesses and even their own plot, which
made the replay value of the game extremely high. On your quest you could meet
all the whacky characters who called the mansion home. It was extremely puzzle
oriented but at the same time there was all kinds of weird stuff you could do
just for fun. One infamous thing was the ability to steal the hamster belonging
to Ed and microwave it. ou could then give it to him. Of course since he would
ultimately prove to be your best hope for completing the game, you probably
wouldn't want to do that. Personally I liked the idea of playing doorbell
ditchers with him.
But I got to thinking that it'd be neat if someone decided to create a game
similar to Maniac Mansion. We've got plenty of the Interactive Fiction style of
game, which certainly seems to fit what Maniac Mansion is, but nothing quite so
enjoyable. So I thought I'd start this thread and see who all remembers that
game and what the general feeling would be about an audio game in tat same
style.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Having never played it when it was around I couldn't compare any game that
happens to come around with the original, but it sounds like something I
would've liked to try out for sure. You'd probably have to get people to
do the voices, and not having any experience with programming I don't know
how hard it'd be to program, but it sounds like an interesting game. I'd
probably buy it just to take a look at it and see what all it was about.

Re: [Audyssey] Maniac Mansion?

2008-07-14 Thread Bryan Peterson
Yeah, we'd need voice actors. We could use Sapi for the menus and things
though. As for MM, I myself never actually played the game since it wasn't
as accessible, but I remember my brother and sister played it a lot when my
brother borrowed it from his girlfriend. It was a lot of fun since while you
were solving all the uzzles you also had to watch out for Edna Edison, the
lady of the house. She'd throw you in the dungeon if she caught you, and
while you could get out it was sometimes tricky. But I liked how the
difficulty or ease of the game varied depending on who you had in your
party.

Having never played it when it was around I couldn't compare any game
 that
happens to come around with the original, but it sounds like something I
would've liked to try out for sure. You'd probably have to get people to
do the voices, and not having any experience with programming I don't
 know
how hard it'd be to program, but it sounds like an interesting game. I'd
probably buy it just to take a look at it and see what all it was about.

Hi all,

info on old NES games I used to play or watch my siblings play. There
 are
quite a few games that I'd forgotten about but was reminded of during my
search for others. One such game was Maniac Mansion, developed by Lucas
Arts originally for the computer but later ported to such systems as the
old NES. Just a little while ago I got to thinking about how easy or
 hard
it would be to create a game like that for the blind gaming market.
Technically it might be fairly easy since it uses a point and click,
menu-based style of gameplay like in the Bavisoft games. You click a
 verb
and then an object or person. You might have the usual verbs like take,
use, talk to and stuff like that. So you'd click, let's say Use Toilet.
If you made a logical combination you would perform the action.
But Maniac Mansion was very much a humorous title. The premise was
 that
a mad scientist, Fred Edison, lived in a mansion with his wife Edna and
his son Ed. Twenty years ago a sentient, alien meteor crashed near his
house and took control of his mind. It decided to use Fred to invent a
machine to steal the brains of the young people of Earth. That's where
you came in. You played as Dave, a college kid out to rescue his
girlfriend Sandy from the Edisons' mansion. But you couldn't do italone,
so you enlisted the aid of two other friends, whom you'd choose from a
roster of six at the start of the game. Each characer had his/her own
strengths, weaknesses and even their own plot, which made the replay
value of the game extremely high. On your quest you could meet all the
whacky characters who called the mansion home. It was extremely puzzle
oriented but at the same time there was all kinds of weird stuff you
could do just for fun. One infamous thing was the ability to steal the h
amster belonging to Ed and microwave it. ou could then give it to him.
Of course since he would ultimately prove to be your best hope for
completing the game, you probably wouldn't want to do that. Personally I
liked the idea of playing doorbell ditchers with him.
But I got to thinking that it'd be neat if someone decided to create a
game similar to Maniac Mansion. We've got plenty of the Interactive
Fiction style of game, which certainly seems to fit what Maniac Mansion
is, but nothing quite so enjoyable. So I thought I'd start this thread
and see who all remembers that game and what the general feeling would
 be
about an audio game in tat same style.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

It sounds like an interesting concept, but who knows if anyone else agrees

it does sound like the replay would be great! I did like the ease of the
bavisoft stuff but once you've been through the game that's the end of it
all. BTW wouldn't mind some help in chillingham if anyone's completed it.

Re: [Audyssey] Maniac Mansion?

2008-07-14 Thread Jason Allen
Maniac Mansion was one of my favorite games as a kid. I completed the game
every way imaginable (it had numerous endings) and even managed to complete
it with Dave dead which Dr. Fred commented, Sorry about your boyfriend at
the end. The green tentacle wanted to be a rock star and the purple one was
evil. This relationship was the basis for the sequel Day of the Tentacle
which was a powerful successor to Maniac Mansion.

I could definitely program it, but I'm waist deep in an accessible RPG I've
been writing over the last few months. I'll pipe up again when it's closer
to completion and I need a new project.
