I have noticed that she can still climb ropes with her weapons out. That's one
that really doesn't seem to make sence to me, I know I couldn't climb a rope
with a pistol in my left or right hand, heck I probably couldn't without
anything in my hands.

  Hello James,
It Has more to do with balance and momentum than anything else. Think of
it this way. If you have a large sword in one hand no matter how you
look at it the sword is going to throw you off balance. Especially, if
you want to do a very large jjump over a large chasm, fire, whatever. If
you strap it to your back the weight is obviously the same, but it is
more evenly distributed so it isn't as likely to throw you off balance.
As for where I got the concept from ever play any of the Tomb Raider
games? If not they have a lot of the features you are seeing in Tomb
Hunter. In the Tomb Raider games when Lara's weapons are holstered she
can go into a hand to hand fighting mode, jump up and catch ledges,
swing off ropes, or just get better balance and achieve longer distance
jumps just not by having weapons in her hands all the time.

Where does the protagonist store weapons when they're holstered?
Assuming they're stored on her person, why is it easier to jump when
they're holstered? One doesn't need hands to jump across a pit (ropes
I understand). I'd think the more weapons and items she'd have on her
person the slower and heavier she'd be.

Please don't crucify me. This isn't a request to change the gameplay
(as it is already quite fun) but more of a funny observation I thought
   I'd share.

Even if that was the case I wasn't just going to chuck with out consulting

Well, that's you - actually, some people have no problems with the
controllers. Others somehow get things rattling around inside. My
friend has one like that - yet another friend says his r2 button
sticks badly, and yet another has no problems.
The first dualshock controllers were absolute tanks. They could handle
anything. Now its just cheaply made, expensively priced (for what you
get). Something like the lenns in the ps2. Some people have had luck
with it, others have had no luck at all and got the dreaded Disc Read
error, very very common for ps2.We'll see how the ps3 goes. From what
I've been able to find, some ps3's have already experienced problems.
Dating back all the way to the first ps1 released (made out of plastic
that overheated very easily) to now, sony's build quality has
decreased a lot. Even my stario might be needing to be repaired after
only 4 years of light use.

Electronics aren't being built like they used to. People buy cameras
and monitors and look at numbers, not reliability, and don't do
research. I have a set of surround sound speakers that would be worth
1000 dollars or more now, but back in 1995 when my brother had them
they were only worth a few hundrid. They still work.

Take the sega cd, for example. Very few have experienced lens failure.
Its a fuse in there that can be replaced easily that usually ends up
being the culprit. Even the dreamcasts is hard to kill. Mind you
they'll go eventually, but not as quick as sony.

I don't mean to be insulting sony here but its a fact. Look up disc
read errors for ps2 or ps1 and you'll find most likely hundrids of
discussions on the subject.

Yeah, I'll grant you that on all counts. But the same goes for just about
any electronic, not just sony, hence the whole x box 3 rings of death thing
going around years back. They both have their advantages and disadvantages I
suppose. I wasn't saying I prefer one over the other, I have them both and
don't mind either controller scheme. Just saying that the ps3 controllers
can stand up to a fair amount. Maybe not as much as the tank of an x box
controller, haha. Either way, they're both good systems.

I think a lot of it in the older models depended also on how much you play,
how much system resources the game took up, etc. I got my XBox 360 back when
they first came out, so I've had it for quite a while, and the heat sync
only just started going a few months ago. Twas an easy fix though, turns out
the little clips that hold the sync in place had melted, so we just bought a
repair kit and fixed it ourselves. The XBox, for all its publicity with
errors and such, really is a pretty solid system. The only reason I prefer
the ps3 over it is because the ps3 has the resources to do much more than
the xbox does at this point, and because I have more games for the ps3. Just
my opinion though.

Hi,
Sure. What I do is head directly for the bridge, cross it and mine the
road leading up to the bridge. That way with all of the mines on the road
most of all of the enemy tanks that come down that road will hit the
mines and will wind up heavily damaged or destroyed. After that I cross
back over the bridge, take out the troops in the woods, and wait for my
buddies to show up. Once I get some of them over the bridge I'll form up
with them and put up a smoke screen and hall butt down the road to sector
6 with my tankes in formation. If there are any enemy tanks left alive
on the road I hammer them with anything I've got to hit them with. They
are right out in the open so nuking them with a long range missile or
something isn't a problem.

Hi Yohandy,
So I've heard. The Wii-Mote's reputation proceeds it. Keep in mind I'm

I don't currently have the cash to spend on more game controllers.
Though, when finances look a little more stable I'll probably look into

Oh yeah, strategy plays a huge part in GTC. I just finished playing
sector 3 on Today Is A Good Day To Die and without cheats that was
almost impossible. I got my butt kicked about 10 times before I finally
managed to out flank the enemy and kick some enemy tail. All I can say
it was a real pain in the butt to get to the train in time with tanks,
choppers, and everything else trying to have a piece of my butt.

sector without cheating. I guess I'm just not a very
strategically-minded person..and that's a huge part of surviving sector
five.

Hi Bryan,
Definitely. I usually drive to somewhere half-way between the bridges
and the end of the road and begin dropping several mines on the road in
various places. Believe me if you put enough of them there most of the
enemy tanks will wind up toast before the ever see the bridges. Of
course remember not to get too close to the mines you just layed or you
will end up toast yourself. Grin.

Bryan Peterson wrote:
I could neer get the hang of that. I always ended up blowing up the

Hi,
Sure. What I do is head directly for the bridge, cross it and mine the
road leading up to the bridge. That way with all of the mines on the
road most of all of the enemy tanks that come down that road will hit
the mines and will wind up heavily damaged or destroyed. After that I
cross back over the bridge, take out the troops in the woods, and wait
for my buddies to show up. Once I get some of them over the bridge I'll
form up with them and put up a smoke screen and hall butt down the road
to sector 6 with my tankes in formation. If there are any enemy tanks
left alive on the road I hammer them with anything I've got to hit them
with. They are right out in the open so nuking them with a long range
missile or something isn't a problem.

A torch is not automatically when it is selected. To do so, depress your

That was always more my dad's type of game, not that he ever tried it. He
tried Grizzly Gulch once and saw a little bit of Shades of Doom and decided
he couldn't get used to no graphics. Pity, really, since he really liked
submarine games. I remember he had this game while I was growing up called
Red Storm Rising that seems very similar to LW. The main difference was that
you could actually travel to places like Scotland, Ireland and places like
that whereas LW just seems to have general locations. Then again maybe I
will try it again. I have actually played it but it never really held my
interest for long. It's kinda odd if you think about it since I've beaten
Final Conflict on several difficulty levels and even took out the Borg Cube
on the bonus level. Now there was a long battle.

Hi Nicol,
A chasm is a naturally formed fisher or crack in the earth that can go
down for thousands of feet or more. Some are small enough to step over,
some you can jump over, and some are so wide you would need a bridge to
get accross.

P.S.

Please, spell my name T o m not T h o m.
Thanks.

True enough. Maybe sony learned from there mistakes with the ps1 and ps2.
I'm sure some sega cd units haven't been serviced at all, it'd be neat to
see statistics on older cd based consoles vs. newer ones.
Oh, another thing I'm wondering, I wonder what the wii is like with discs?
My gamecube started acting wierd, it would randomly not read a disc so I had
to reset it. With soul Kalliber, I rented it, and it would freeze randomly.
I know for a fact that on sega cds with the front loading design (tray), the
tray motor would die. I have a Panasonic discman here from 1992 and it still
works flawlessly. I've also noticed how companies now started skimping on
ports, buttons and switches.
Quite wierd though is the fact that I've had absolutely no problem with
computer cd drives. New or old. They all work great.

Well, bottom line, we all need to remember weather we are talking about a

Surround sound certainly helps, but isn't necessary for GTC. I play the

[Audyssey] Releasing Some Old Text Games

2009-03-22 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello everyone,
over the last couple of days or so I have been looking through some of
my old back ups when I found the source code for some old games I had
written years ago. Most of these were text games I had written while I
was a college student just learning Visual Basic, C++, Java, etc. My
thought is I could spend some time, clean up the source code, fix any
errors, or whatever then release them as free games. Is anyone
interested in some free text games for Windows, Mac, and Linux?
For the most part the kinds of games I am talking about here is basic
board and card games like Black Jack, Life, Tick Tack Toe, Checkers,
Hangman, etc. Basically, the same kind of games you can get from Jim
Kitchen or Spoonbill without the sound effects. Although, the difference
here is the majority of these were written in C/C++ so I can easily make
Windows, Linux, and Mac OS versions without any major changes in the
source code. If you want additional Sapi or Gnome-Speech support that
also is possible though I would think most of you probably would be fine
with just the text. Any thoughts on this?

Smile.

free text games for Windows, Mac, and Linux?
For the most part the kinds of games I am talking about here is basic
board and card games like Black Jack, Life, Tick Tack Toe, Checkers,
Hangman, etc. Basically, the same kind of games you can get from Jim
Kitchen or Spoonbill without the sound effects. Although, the difference
here is the majority of these were written in C/C++ so I can easily make
Windows, Linux, and Mac OS versions without any major changes in the
source code. If you want additional Sapi or Gnome-Speech support that also
is possible though I would think most of you probably would be fine with
just the text. Any thoughts on this?

  Hi Bryan,
Grin.

Hi Tony,
Yeah, that is perfectly understandable. Although, from whatI have been
reading you seam to be facing, shall we say, general computer issues as
well. I don't want to sound critical, but I get the impression you are
not a very skilled or experienced computer user. As a result your lack
of experience, skill, whatever is contributing to the confusion or
making the issue more difficult than it is for most of us on the list.
What I am saying is in general most of the games out there are no more
difficult to install than any other Windows program weather we are
talking MSOffice, Firefox, whatever. So the fact you seam to be having
issues in this area indicates to me that maybe you don't have a lot of
experience installing programs in general. If I am way off base here let
me know, but if you are having troubles with general installation
perhaps one of us can walk you through the process.

Hi,
It takes a while for the enemy tanks to show up. That's why I say go up
the road a ways drop your mines, and then double back to the forest.
That way if they try to hit you from behind there will be a lot less of
them to deal with.
As for the attacks there is a mobile artillery out in the marsh that
fires on your bridges. You can't kill the artillery, but you can beat
the attacks off with your intercepters.

Hi,
Oh, then you are lucky. I've had several cd/dvd drives go bad. In fact
the one in my laptop bit the dust and i have to make do with an external
drive until I can send it into H.P. for repairs. Like any electronic
device it depends on how much you use it. If you burn a lot of disks, do
weekly back ups, etc then your drive is more likely to fail than someone
who barely uses it.

Constantine wrote:

Oh, another thing I'm wondering, I wonder what the wii is like with
discs? My gamecube started acting wierd, it would randomly not read a
disc so I had to reset it. With soul Kalliber, I rented it, and it would
freeze randomly.
I know for a fact that on sega cds with the front loading design (tray),
the tray motor would die. I have a Panasonic discman here from 1992 and
it still works flawlessly. I've also noticed how companies now started
skimping on ports, buttons and switches.
Quite wierd though is the fact that I've had absolutely no problem with
computer cd drives. New or old. They all work great.

me when I go to cross and often the bridge gets blown up unless I cross
it real fast and get away from the bridge? I wonder how you get across
the bridge, if I remember rightly I can't cross that bridge until the
friendlys appear, and then it's too late to go lay mines down, I should
try it again sometime.

Re: [Audyssey] Releasing Some Old Text Games

2009-03-22 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Shaun,
What do you mean by not have to navigate around a dos Window? Jaws,
Window Eyes, and even NVDA all work nicely with the windows command
prompt. I still use a lot of text based applications in the Windows
command prompt window, and it is quite speech friendly. In a game such
as mine just set Jaws to sspeak all and it will read all the prompts
just fine.

shaun everiss wrote:

well if you have them set out as text thats fine I'd like something like this.
though saying that I don't care for any console type things where I have to
navigate round a dos window.
hmmm sapi may be nice but does not have to.

Re: [Audyssey] Releasing Some Old Text Games

2009-03-22 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
True, but then I'd have to modify the games to work on mobile phones,
get a compiler for a mobile phone, and should probably have a mobile
phone to test them. At this point I really wasn't thinking of putting a
lot of work into them. Although, I certainly do like the idea of
updating them, make sure the C++ code meets current standards, recompile
them, and release them to the public as freebies.

Pranav Lal wrote:

Hmm,

You could release them for a mobile phone and then charge for them. smile

I say mobile phone since these games are already there for the pc but there
seem to be very few games for the mobile phone. This also gives you a
cjance to develop for the sighted market since sighted people have visual
constraints thanks to those small screens. grin

Hi,
Right. There are not a lot of accessible games for the Mac currently
that I know of. I'll probably release these games as open source so that
if someone wants to port to Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, yu name it they can.

Constantine wrote:
Sure, why not. I don't think many accessible games support the mack,

Hi Ann,
Yeah, I bet. I don't think there are any accessible Checkers computer
games besides the one made by Azibat Software, and that one you have to
pay for. So I think the Checkers game should definitely be one of the
games I should update and release.

Re: [Audyssey] Releasing Some Old Text Games

2009-03-22 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Charles,
Well, they are already accessible since I wrote them to play long before
I knew Audyssey existed. Though, since I am focusing mainly on MOTA it
might be a while before I get a chanse to work on these old games. I
want to basically do a line by line evaluation of the code, perhaps
rewrite some things that were not written correctly, and perhaps update
the code to meat current programming standards. I know just by looking
at the files that the code looks really old. Old as in out of date, and
using header files, libraries, etdc no longer in existance, or have
changed names, and so on.

Smile.

I'm interested. Fact is, I know someone who has always been looking for
a computer program that will allow him to play checkers, and I know he
would be interested as well. If you go ahead and make these little
games accessible and available, keep us posted? Thanks.Thanks.

[Audyssey] freedom games

2009-03-22 Thread dennis
WHAT'S GOING ON!! A lot of people have been wondering why there have
been no updates to Freedom Wheel. Is the project dead? Is this dude just
being unleet
and not updating it?? Rest assured, development on Wheel has not stopped and
there will be a new release out soon! I'm currently working on an Internet
play system that will be a drop-in module for any new Freedom Game, which
will speed development in the end but takes a long time to do initially.
There will be an update posted as soon as it is ready so do not despair and
keep checking back! Thanks for your continued support!
Dear Flint if your on the list could you let us all know if your gona update
the games? if sosomeone knows how to get in touch with him please forward
this his way.

Thanks
Dennis
