[Audyssey] New games from Blind Adrenaline release notice

2009-05-29 Thread Che
  Hi all,
Well, it has taken a lot longer than I thought to get these card games the
way I wanted them, but I think you'll be very pleased with the results.
I've been working on an advanced version of online Texas hold em and online
hearts so we can play our friends over the internet, and for anyone that is
into strategic game play, you are in for a treat.
We've been testing these games extensively the past few months, running
hundreds of hands to get it just right, and finally they are ready for prime
time.
I will be releasing both games Monday June 1, and everyone can play for free
for the month of June. After that, it will cost just $3.95 a month for a
subscription. I'm also finishing up code for 5 card draw, and hope to have
that included sometime in late June.
For you Texas hold em fans, you are gonna love this, I've made it possible
for you to create your own table with your own rules. If you want to make a pot
limit table with a max $1 buy in, no problem. Want a no limit table with a
max of $1,000,000, bring it on.
Also, you can create private tables and invite only the people you want to
play if you like. These games will only show to those invited, so no worries
about folks getting mad they weren't invited.
Another way cool feature and my favorite way to play hold em are the sit and
go tables, which are basically like mini tournaments, where each player buys in
for whatever amount you set, and the top three finishers split the pot 20, 30
and 50 percent. This is the format the World Series of poker uses, and we've
played most of our hold em games this way, and everyone is loving it.
With an interface created to make getting the information you need as easy as
possible, you'll find playing hold em a fun and intuitive experience.
Hearts is equally fun, with an interface designed to make navigating your
cards as easy and natural as possible.
You can also create your own tables for hearts, with whatever max score you
want, as well as set up the advanced version which includes a ten point
subtraction for catching the jack of diamonds.
I have also created a tournament system that will allow frequent online
tournament play for some cool prizes.
The web site keeps track of each players money for hold em and hearts points
for hearts, which you earn by beating other players, and I will be giving
players online trophies for hitting the million dollar mark, as well as winning
tournaments.
Right now, both games work with either Sapi, jaws or window eyes, and I hope
to integrate support for other screenreaders in time. Basically, the games have
gotten really good due to user feedback, and I plan on continuing to hone the
experience with suggestions from players.
I will be giving a demonstration and taking questions tomorrow Saturday May
30 on the voice chat site for the people at 7:30 eastern in the presentation
room.
Feel free to hit me with any questions you might have, and if you reply on
list to this message, please delete my text here, as this is a rather long
message and your reply might get rejected for being too big if you don't clear
it first.
Hope to see you at the presentation tomorrow.

In case some of you are not on the pac mate list but have pac mates or smart
phones using JAWS, I have compiled a huge game pack for the Pac Mate, and it's
free.
Louis Bryant is hosting it for me and it can be found at
http://ken.braillesoft.net
It has games like NetHack, crazy bubbles, a bejeweled clone, a minesweeper
clone, freecell, and many others.
Happy gaming!

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's Trivia Games>?

2009-05-29 Thread dark

Unfortunately as far as I can gather, - both from my own investigations
of the screen with hal, and from playing some of Jim's games with some of my
friends and their working eyeballs, all the text is directly ouput to sapi
and spoken, not displayed on the screen.

All I can suggest is that you look into installing some more understandable
voices on your friends' system.

Your probably better looking into something like the 7-128 games. they all
have graphics, and can be played with or without the game voice or a screen
reader, and with or without use of graphics.

Maybe some of their word games or puzle games would be helpful in this
situation?

The games are commercial, but are quite inexpensive, and your friend would
always have the option of also buying some of their non-vi specific games.

Just a thought. find out more at http://www.7128.com/

Hello there,
My sighted lady friend has been asking me if there are any games that she
can play against me.
I was going to install the Kitchen Trivia games on her laptop so we both
could play.
The only voice on her system now is the Microsoft Sam voice..not easy to
take..sigh.
Can anyone tell me if we can turn the voice off and jus t have her read
the questions off the screen?
thanks
Robert
PS are there any other kitchen games that can be played the same way? No
voice, just have a sighted person read the screen?

Makes sense, I guess. I had no idea though, actually I never really played

I think it means while you're actually using the voice for your screen
reader. That might explain why with JFW voices like the Scansoft or AT&T
voices wouldn't pause at the end of sentences or at commas.

Wierd, I had no idea jaws did that - it would actually be neat if sapi
could have an accessible dictionary for people to use. That's just me
though.

So basically your saying when jfw or window eyes is installed it does
some behind the scenes work on the sapi default dictionary? Or you mean
using the sapi voices in conjunction with jfw?

thanks

Hi Dark,
That's not necessarily a bug. Comparing a screen reader to a software
speech system like Sapi isn't really a good comparison in this instance.
While text to speech systems like Sapi have there own dictionaries that
tells the synth how to say various words, numbers, and punctuation
marks, etc any third-party software such as a screen reader can over
ride the voice's built in speech dictionary. For example, in Jaws you
can configure it to say numbers as whole numbers, single digits, or in
pares. So a string of numbers like 1, 9, 8, 6 can be spoken as 1,986, 19
86, or 1 9 8 6. That's a simple case where the screen reader overrides
whatever the text to speech voice would ordinarily say given the same
number in another application.
Bottom line, just becauseJaws says something correctly it doesn't mean
the Sapi voice or application using Sapi is buggy. It is more likely
that Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, etc has performed some extra speech
processing behind the scenes and is more accurate.

Smile.

dark wrote:

Hi Che.

sinse that line reads fine with JAws and not with Sapi, I would
actually class it as a bug, I'm only using scripting because it
won't automatically read.

I've tried the command with what I believe to be the correct syntax in
the trigger dialogue, - as I detailed, but either I did something
wrong, or there is something more intrinsic to why sSapi won't read a
line written in betwene less than greater than prompts.

I'm really not sure sinse as I said, apparently it reads fine with
other speech methods.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] net hack on the pac mate

2009-05-29 Thread dark

Hi

Net hack is an aski text adventure, which means everything about what's
going on is represented by aski graphics, your character and the
dungeon around them.

Your character is the at sign, monsters and other objects are letters, the
floor I believe is a series of hashes etc.

I've personally never managed to get on with screen readers and aski
graphics in roguelikes at all, but then again I do not own a braille
display, which I'm guessing would make life far easier than using a screen
reader.

Nor I'm afraid do I own a packmate, so I can't be any direct help, but I
hope this answers the basic question.

hi,
I tried the pac mate games pack, I'll admit a lot. a lot on there!
it'ss better organized now as well. but I have a question, how do you
all classify net hack as being a playable game... I can't play it
mainly because I have no idea what should I be doing. on the screen I
can see my character name and his race, the status, and then a weird
stream of characters, I'm guessing this is a sort of a map or an asky
decoration. what should I be doing? One thing I know. I need to type
commands, but nothing more.

Re: [Audyssey] Vip mud sapi problem

2009-05-29 Thread dark
I've tried all the sapi voices I have, - namely scansoft daniel and ms
mike, mary and sam all with the same result.

If the less than greater than is indeed a silencing tag for Sapi, -
maybe that is the problem, Though I have no idea why it would affect
only my computer and not my friends.

Perhaps if this is indeed a silencing tag, as a lot of muds seem to write
character status within less than greater than prompts, - maybe this is
an issue with Vip mud sapi support.

Any idea how I disable that sapi function?

enough, silence a line. we've been doing some jokes with klango with

I coppied that text into a text file and then tried reading it with Jim
kitchin's text file reader - which obviously uses sapi, and again, it
wouldn't read.

so, the cause of the problem isn't vip mud or materia magica, - or

sansoft daniel, it's sapi!

the problem is i've no idea where to go from here, sinse (as you rightly

Hi Dark,
That's not necessarily a bug. Comparing a screen reader to a software
speech system like Sapi isn't really a good comparison in this instance.
While text to speech systems like Sapi have there own dictionaries that
tells the synth how to say various words, numbers, and punctuation
marks,

etc any third-party software such as a screen reader can over ride the
voice's built in speech dictionary. For example, in Jaws you can
configure

it to say numbers as whole numbers, single digits, or in pares. So a
string of numbers like 1, 9, 8, 6 can be spoken as 1,986, 19 86, or 1 9
8

6. That's a simple case where the screen reader overrides whatever the
text to speech voice would ordinarily say given the same number in
another

application.
Bottom line, just becauseJaws says something correctly it doesn't mean
the

Sapi voice or application using Sapi is buggy. It is more likely that
Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, etc has performed some extra speech processing
behind the scenes and is more accurate.
Smile.

I've tried the command with what I believe to be the correct syntax in

I'm really not sure sinse as I said, apparently it reads fine with

My guess is it has something to do with the Silver Dollar Saloon.

 Greetings gamers,

This note is a quick sneak peek at a few items that will be
announced officially on the Draconis web site soon.

While news has been slow in coming, we're still working hard to
deliver new games for both Mac and Windows. We're sorry it is
 taking so long.

We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles,
Draconis has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are
 some particular items of note.

 1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have
suggested. For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working

on, something that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But
we do understand how nice it would be for gamers to know how things

are progressing. To that end, we've decided that we will keep
gamers informed on the day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some
extent. Don't expect the top secret details, but do expect to have
a better idea of what is being worked on. Draconis has opened a
Twitter profile and account that gamers can follow to find out a
little about what's happening behind the scenes at Draconis.
Follow us, and see our Twitter page at http://twitter.com/DracoEnt

 2. We are currently building an automated key generation system.
This means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your

registration for the game immediately. No more human processing
will be required. The new system will be employed for all existing
and future titles. This will dramatically change how we do things,
as we'll be able to spend far more time on development, and less
 time on processing orders.

 3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to
bring you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind
musicians, Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is
celebrating its first release. It's an EP entitled "Opening Act",
and is available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music
shops under the Draconis Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of
