[Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread Earle
Wondering if anyone has found a good way to map locations in Ce? Lately
I've been picking up passengers and obviously I can figure out how to find
my destination using the plotter. Problem is I like to pick up more than
one passenger at a time and figuring out where to go first can be difficult.
What I've been doing is checking all locations with the plotter and going to
the closest destination from my point of origin. This is fine but there's
no way of knowing how far my next destination will be from the first
destination. I don't know if I'm making sense it's 2:55 a.m, hopefully
people will see what I mean. Basically, I'm wondering if there is a way to
map out different locations. The only solution I've thought of is to keep
notes. Just wondering if anyone out there has figured out a better way to
do this or if there's something I'm missing. Still very new to this game so
I have a lot to learn. I'm only on level 14.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone joined the blind Ce list? I've joined but
I never see any posts on there.

Earle

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread dark

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single cargo run
or passenger with a very large payout which is a long way away, plot the
route to them, then look for other deliveries which are to systems along
that route, or systems which I'll be passing close to (I occasionally
check this with the plotter just in case).

I've now got to the point where I've got the ability to carry three
passengers of each class, and 110 units of cargo which can make for a very
major run, but I've not had too much difficulty so long as I check witht he
plotter and make certain I don't forget to drop off a passenger or some
cargo along the way.

2009-11-03 Thread Earle
I hope you don't mind me asking you one more question. Is there any other
way to get to the plotter other than docking at a jump gate? It would be
nice to be able to access it without undocking just so I could plot routes
and plan things before undocking.

Hi,

No they don't. a passenger cabbin is just that. So you can fill up
your cargo bay and your cabbins respectively.

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single
cargo run or passenger with a very large payout which is a long way
away, plot the route to them, then look for other deliveries which
are to systems along that route, or systems which I'll be
passing close to (I occasionally check this with the plotter just in
case).

I've now got to the point where I've got the ability to carry three
passengers of each class, and 110 units of cargo which can make for a
very

major run, but I've not had too much difficulty so long as I check
witht he plotter and make certain I don't forget to drop off a
passenger or some

cargo along the way.

hth.

Wondering if anyone has found a good way to map locations in Ce?
Lately I've been picking up passengers and obviously I can figure
out how to find my destination using the plotter. Problem is I like
to pick up more than one passenger at a time and figuring out where
to go first can be difficult. What I've been doing is checking all
locations with the plotter and going

to
the closest destination from my point of origin. This is fine but
there's no way of knowing how far my next destination will be from
the first destination. I don't know if I'm making sense it's 2:55
a.m, hopefully people will see what I mean. Basically, I'm
wondering if there is a way to
map out different locations. The only solution I've thought of is to
keep
notes. Just wondering if anyone out there has figured out a better way
to
do this or if there's something I'm missing. Still very new to this
game

so
I have a lot to learn. I'm only on level 14.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone joined the blind Ce list? I've
joined but
I never see any posts on there.

Just put it in the cargo slot. That's what I did. If you already have
something else in there you can always unequip it and equip the passenger

No, passenger cabins only carry passengers.

Personally, i happen to think the money got as a galactic taxi driver is far
more than a few extra cargo spaces would give, but this is probably a
difference of opinion and playing style.

I will say though that passengers are far easier to pick up than cargo,
sinse while not every planet has an asha or wesbek office, all do have

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single cargo
run or passenger with a very large payout which is a long way away, plot
the route to them, then look for other deliveries which are to systems
along that route, or systems which I'll be passing close to (I
occasionally check this with the plotter just in case).

I've now got to the point where I've got the ability to carry three
passengers of each class, and 110 units of cargo which can make for a
very major run, but I've not had too much difficulty so long as I check
witht he plotter and make certain I don't forget to drop off a passenger
or some cargo along the way.

Wondering if anyone has found a good way to map locations in Ce? Lately
I've been picking up passengers and obviously I can figure out how to
find
my destination using the plotter. Problem is I like to pick up more
than
one passenger at a time and figuring out where to go first can be
difficult.
What I've been doing is checking all locations with the plotter and
going to
the closest destination from my point of origin. This is fine but
there's

no way of knowing how far my next destination will be from the first
destination. I don't know if I'm making sense it's 2:55 a.m, hopefully
people will see what I mean. Basically, I'm wondering if there is a way
to
map out different locations. The only solution I've thought of is to
keep
notes. Just wondering if anyone out there has figured out a better way
to
do this or if there's something I'm missing. Still very new to this game
so

I have a lot to learn. I'm only on level 14.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone joined the blind Ce list? I've joined
but

I never see any posts on there.

In the expander slot.

you have to choose betwene expanding your hold or carrying passengers.

Personally as I said i think passengers are the much better option, but
then again I've never really investigated cargo expanders too seriously
sinse I do rather enjoy the variety that hawling passengers as opposed to
cargo gives.

No they don't. a passenger cabbin is just that. So you can fill up your
cargo bay and your cabbins respectively.

This is true, although how do you yourself balance out the distance of it
all. I mean I try and take on the most expensive runs I can. Which obviously

No, passenger cabins only carry passengers.

Personally, i happen to think the money got as a galactic taxi driver is far

more than a few extra cargo spaces would give, but this is probably a
difference of opinion and playing style.

I will say though that passengers are far easier to pick up than cargo,
sinse while not every planet has an asha or wesbek office, all do have
a passenger office, though finding lucrative contracts may require a

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread dark
as I said darren, I simply find a distant cargo or passenger, then fill up
with things I can deliver along the way, either systems I'm directly
passing through found via the plotter, or systems I've previously noticed in
the jump gate nexus are close to a given system I'm passing, for
instance I know that Bedlum is very close to Descarte, so while running
through descarte, nipping into and out of Behdlum to drop of passengers or
cargo isn't a problem, though obviously I'd only take runs to bedlum or
Descarte if I was several galaxies away and the price was good.

Thus, using the plotter to check whether a given system is on your current
route isn't a bad idea too, though I've found after a good few runs
round the galaxies I can mostly remember what is related to where so am able

Bypass levels like what?

I stil had to be the right captain level for the ship, 24 in the case
of the magelanic i bought.

I just paid about 15 dollars real money rather than about 12 million Ce
money.

Next upgrade I might well just save up for in game, depending upon the
cost, and how much money i have both in and out of the game at the time.

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread Darren Harris
The whole game makes smugglers feel small. Amazingly small. I mean you think
of all the things you can do in smugglers over what you can do in this game.
Ok in some ways it's chalk and cheese because in essence they're 2 very
different types of games. The economy is very much a part of ce where as in
smugglers it was just placed there. Like a sideline in case you get board.
You could never make a ton of money hauling cargo or anything in smugglers.
But with ce the whole idea is for you to be able to craft and manufacture
things for yourself and sell them. Also with ce there's no limit as to how
long you can play the game overall where as with smugglers there's an age
limit but you could play it all day if you wanted too. So yes I guess it's a
balancing act but overall I'd say ce is a much much larger game to play and
for various reasons. Also with ce it allows for a much more flexible style
of play. I mean you can try things out where as with smugglers because of
the age limit you're done the moment you choose a given path. I much prefer
games like c over smugglers any day of the week.

as I said darren, I simply find a distant cargo or passenger, then fill up
with things I can deliver along the way, either systems I'm directly
passing through found via the plotter, or systems I've previously noticed in

the jump gate nexus are close to a given system I'm passing, for
instance I know that Bedlum is very close to Descarte, so while running
through descarte, nipping into and out of Behdlum to drop of passengers or
cargo isn't a problem, though obviously I'd only take runs to bedlum or

Descarte if I was several galaxies away and the price was good.

Thus, using the plotter to check whether a given system is on your current
route isn't a bad idea too, though I've found after a good few runs
round the galaxies I can mostly remember what is related to where so am able

to pick systems which are near or far.

Re: [Audyssey] 3D navigation

2009-11-03 Thread Jacob Kruger
Along the lines of this version of 3D rendering, I tried out using the vOICe
to help render a slightly better version of the audio quake screen with
graphics turned on, and while didn't try too much, it definitely gave me a
bit more of a 'warning' about things like walls, and their angles since it
let me know about them before the audio cues implemented in audio quake
itsself did, and this is making use of the vOICe's GUI rendering facility.

Hi Tom.

On the matter of sound, well I've never had the full 5.1 but have always
used a pair of very good headphones, and the virtual 3D support in the Gma
engine has always done very well.

On the sensary front though, - while obviously including smell and
touch in a game is beyond the limits of current technology, you could put
in some assistive audio to in a sense take their place.

For example, varying step sounds for different surfaces, - even within
the same general area given the land marks, rather the way Superliam
used the different step bounderies to indicate hazards in the path.

then, as already mentioned, make the wall bump sound sterrio, so you can
tell when the wall is ahead or to one side.

You might considder using a wall trailing sound as Terraformers did, to
allow you to trail along one wall in audio, rather the way many
people would trail along a wall by touch in real life.

Just my thoughts.

Hi Charles,

I due to RPs tunnel vision became legally blind at 21 and had to give up
driving at that point. I could still see pretty good until I was about 30.
So I still think that I have pretty good spacial visualization skills. And
with some exploring I get around new environments pretty darn good.

But when it comes to games, I am one of those who just walks around and
around running into walls and getting frustrated. Could be because I do not
have surround sound speakers or headphones or sound card, But could also be
because in the real world there is tactile feedback, wind, smells, being
able to stand, listen, turn your head back and forth etc etc. I think that
it also has some to do with how much you really really want to be able to
play the game and how many times and how much frustration you are willing to
put up with to get it.

Some people have had allot of trouble with Pong, Homer on a Harley, Puppy 1,
Mach 1 and Mach 1 tts. Just can not get the play of the game pictured in
their head I guess.

I did buy a Book Sense XT and some professional stereo ear bud sort of type
microphones. I recorded a walk out to the flag pole and back. I think that
it sounds awesome! Don't know if one could get such realism in a game or
not.

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread dark

I totally disagree with you about other players in Ce having no impact.

Using the forums for discussion and auctions, or the chat to arrange item
trades or services, Ce very much has given me the feeling that there are
other players out there to interact with in a way that no other game really
has.

It's probably the lack of pvp, and the fact that most Ce players are
obviously more into trading and cooperation than clans and fuding as seem to
happen in every other mmorp I've seen.

Your totally right about smugglers being a story though, especially
sinse it very much has a beginning middle and end, where as Ce just
continues.

As I said, I can appreciate the merrits of both games very much.

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

2009-11-03 Thread Darren Harris
Right.

Smugglers is very militaristic where as ce is more for the privateer and
trader. The missions in ce certainly the combat ones are very simplistic in
comparison. But smugglers is a stand alone game. So is c in a sence, but
also in a sence it isn't. by that I mean, there's no player v player
interaction apart from the bgm and player market, mecs obviously trading
items and the like. But you'd never see a player ship in space. Every player
is within it's own little universe in a way. But there is a degree of player
interaction.

Also with ce, you can take any path you choose, because of the type of game
that it is. It's much bigger in terms of choices of path you can take.
There's no real wrong way. Only better ways than others. Or more efficient.

Smugglers is much more mission based because it is based in and around a
war. There's a story to it. You're encouraged to fight where as in ce it
doesn't matter. It's your choice.

The player markit is the place to sell, which you can do directly from your
lode out screen when docked at a planet with a player markit.

Your probably best off selling the low grade stuff directly to the game
though, sinse nobody will buy it on the pm.

a passenger cabin goes into your expander slot as an alternative to a cargo
expander, they can be expensive though so you might have to wait until
you get one.

If you've spent Ip on both weapon types, i'd personally suggest you reset,
sinse there really is no bennifit in having skills in both types of weapon
at once.

Energy weapons do a small amount more damage and allow you to use salvage
cutters to gain loot from raid targits later on, but kinetic weapons cost
significantly less in Ip so you can have a higher level in them.

That's why I've personally gone in for kinetic all the way.

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single cargo
run

or passenger with a very large payout which is a long way away, plot the
route to them, then look for other deliveries which are to systems along
that route, or systems which I'll be passing close to (I
occasionally

check this with the plotter just in case).

I've now got to the point where I've got the ability to carry three
passengers of each class, and 110 units of cargo which can make for a
very
major run, but I've not had too much difficulty so long as I check witht
he

plotter and make certain I don't forget to drop off a passenger or some
cargo along the way.

Subject: [Audyssey] Mapping in Ce

Wondering if anyone has found a good way to map locations in Ce?
Lately I've been picking up passengers and obviously I can figure out
how to find my destination using the plotter. Problem is I like to
pick up more than one passenger at a time and figuring out where to go
first can be difficult. What I've been doing is checking all locations
with the plotter and going to
the closest destination from my point of origin. This is fine but
there's

no way of knowing how far my next destination will be from the first
destination. I don't know if I'm making sense it's 2:55 a.m, hopefully
people will see what I mean. Basically, I'm wondering if there is a
way

to
map out different locations.

I've
joined
but
I never see any posts on there.

I can probably help you on the gun front, but 54 energy really won't
do.

I'm afraid you'll either need to buy a reactor (the hammer reactors also
increase your damage a bit), or buy an engine upgrade with real cash from
the Ce store, which provides both more fuel and an energy bonus.

this is one reason I've personally not yet bought any reactors myself.

Alternatively, you could just swap out whatever you have in your expander
slot (a cargo expander or cabin), for your gun as needed, sinse expanders
use a lot of energy but are no use in combat.

If you want to go down that route, and have the ip to spare on kinetic, I'd
be happy to let the gun go for 10 K.

On the other hand, if you haven't already got a drone, I wouldn't mind
deferring payment on the gun while you buy one, once your doing combat
missions successfully you should be making enough from loot to pay me 15 K
for the gun in no time.

Drop me a pm in the game if your interested, though sinse I'm about to
go to bed, I might not get back to you until tomorrow.

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single cargo

[Audyssey] Jaws 9 and VIP Mud

2009-11-03 Thread William L. Houts

Hi Listers,

Forgive me if I've asked this before. My memory is shot and I'm not finding
it in my sent folder so here goes:

When I use VIP Mud with Jaws 9, Jaws echoes every letter even though I have
it set to echo words only. I've written GMA Games about this, but David
Greenwood doesn't seem to know what to make of it. Has anyone else had this
problem, and if so how did you fix it? Maybe some kind person could give me
a list of their Jaws settings that I could plug into Jaws and make it more
obedient.

Thanks, and apologies if this is a repeat.

[Audyssey] FreezeUp.

2009-11-03 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
I just got the hand held FreezeUp.
For 2 to 8 players
It takes 3 dubble a batterys and needs a philips screwdriver to open the
battery case.

It looks like a squashed american football,
8 inches long, 5 inches wide and 3 inches high.
There are 4 controls around the back of the game, a low, high volume switch,
the on off button, the player button, and the manual or automatic switch.
On the top on the left are two large triangle buttons, the top is the switch
category and the bottom is the switch letter.
and on the right is a large crecent moon shaped button that is the stop
button.

Above these large buttons are 4 smaller buttons.
the first from left to right, is the go button,
the second is a challenge button,
the third is an accept word button,
and the forth is a Word Rejected button.

In Auto Mode, Freeze Up
immediately announces Player 1's turn, chooses
a category and letter at random (for example,
"Name a sport, letter T"), and starts the
timer ticking.
Player 1 quickly thinks of an answer,
(for example, "tennis"). Player 1 shouts it out,
presses the Stop button to halt the timer,
and passes the unit to the next player.
The game continues with players passing Freeze Up around
and taking turns answering questions.

Hi Phil,
Right. Like I said earlier using pitch or volume is a very subtle type
of change. It is continuous and you have to be pretty skilled at
identifying those subtle changes. What may work better is a clank,
grind, or some other clue that the door is about to fall in a second or
two.So just before the door drops the game could play some special sound
that is an indicator to standback as the door is coming down. If you
aren't quick or too close smash goes the player.

[Audyssey] FreezeUp hand held game.

2009-11-03 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
I just got the hand held FreezeUp talking Category Game.
It talks and is completely usable by the blind.

the beginning of the game, players each have 60 seconds.
As the timer ticks down during his or her turn, a player must
name something in a specified category (such as fruits) that begins with
a specific letter (such as P). The faster a player responds, the less time
deducted from his or her allotted time. As the categories and letters
keep coming and players' time runs out, they are eliminated. The last
player in the game with time remaining is the WINNER.

For 2 to 8 players
It looks like a squashed American football,
8 inches long, 5 inches wide and 3 inches high.
There are 4 controls around the back of the game, a low, high volume switch,
the on off button, the player button, and the manual or automatic switch.
On the top on the left are two large triangle buttons, the top is the switch
category and the bottom is the switch letter.
and on the right is a large crescent moon shaped button that is the stop
button.
Above these large buttons are 4 smaller buttons.
the first from left to right, is the go button,
the second is a challenge button,
the third is an accept word button,
and the forth is a Word Rejected button.

In Auto Mode, Freeze Up
immediately announces Player 1's turn, chooses
a category and letter at random (for example,
"Name a sport, letter T"), and starts the
timer ticking.
Player 1 quickly thinks of an answer,
(for example, "tennis"). Player 1 shouts it out,
presses the Stop button to halt the timer,
and passes the unit to the next player.
The game continues with players passing Freeze Up around
and taking turns answering questions.
If you don't know an answer you can,
Choose a new category.
or Choose a new letter.
Pressing either button results in a
3-second penalty.
If you disagree with a player's answer, you can hit the challenge button.
If the group votes to ACCEPT the word, the
challenger presses the Word Accepted button.
The challenger loses five seconds from his or her
remaining time.
If the group votes to REJECT the word, the
challenger presses the Word Rejected button.
The challenged player loses five seconds from
his or her remaining time.

It takes 3 double a batteries and needs a Philips screwdriver to open the
battery case.

It was $25 plus shipping from Amazon.
It has 170+ categories, built-in timer and scorekeeper, crystal-clear
speech, and sound effects.

Hi.

I usually use the plotter, but what I tend to do is find a single cargo
run

or passenger with a very large payout which is a long way away, plot the
route to them, then look for other deliveries which are to systems along
that route, or systems which I'll be passing close to (I occasionally
check this with the plotter just in case).

I've now got to the point where I've got the ability to carry three
passengers of each class, and 110 units of cargo which can make for a very
major run, but I've not had too much difficulty so long as I check witht
he

plotter and make certain I don't forget to drop off a passenger or some
cargo along the way.

hth.

I've
joined
but
I never see any posts on there.

Re: [Audyssey] FreezeUp hand held game.

2009-11-03 Thread dark

Hi Phil.

to be honest this sounds more like an auto scoring version of the usual
party word catagory game, - which isn't a bad thing if you've got a
group of people together who habitually play such things, but not
really the thing if your a solo player looking for a challenge.

I have a couple of versions of boppit and saywhat, and have to be brutally
honest, defeated them utterly!

I admit i haven't tried boppit download though.

If anyone can suggest solo hand held electric games which pprovide a good
challenge with interesting sounds and are available in the Uk, i'd be
interested to here.

Otherwise, i'll just stick to computer games, and when on the move,
just play such things on my laptop.

Beware the grue!

H, if your not doing it with that gun you could considder buying
another, as i said, trading out your expander when not in combat,
and your mining laser if your using one is a way to fix energy if you

Targiting modules do fit in the system slot, but they're expensive.

Personally, I'd suggest you firstly get a better gun, and secondly look at
your armour and hull buffs.

Remember, that it's your Hull that matters and some enemies can go streight
through your armour, so on balance it's better to strengthen your hull.

Also, as far as the renigades go, you don't have to always attack the big
ones, as a variety of ship sizes are classed as renigades. If i remember
rightly, i had to avoid some of the larger tonage renigades on that mission
myself. That was before the threat rating was added, so it should be
easier to do now.

Re: [Audyssey] FreezeUp hand held game.

2009-11-03 Thread Allan Thompson

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the heads up on this hand held. It sounds really neat.
A question though. If I understand right, the machine itself doesn't have
answers to the catagories itself, but those come from the players instead,
is that right?

I think I'll pick one up.

Hi Folks,
I just got the hand held FreezeUp talking Category Game.

There are 4 controls around the back of the game, a low, high volume
switch,

the on off button, the player button, and the manual or automatic switch.
On the top on the left are two large triangle buttons, the top is the
switch

category and the bottom is the switch letter.
and on the right is a large crescent moon shaped button that is the stop
