Re: [Audyssey] need help with chess

2013-04-04 Thread Charles Rivard
Another option, farther down the road, is to get a chess computer that can
be used, after any modification necessary, by blind people. By beeps of
different tones, you can tell where the machine moved its pieces. You have
to mark the black pieces for identification. I cut rubber magnet material
from a roll that match the squares and matching magnets and stuck them onto
the bottoms of the chessmen so they stick to the squares. Now, I can
examine the board layout while planning moves without knocking the men off
the board. Chess computers are good when traveling or when there isn't a
human opponent when you're in the mood for a game. You can set the skill to
just a bit stronger than you, so you can gradually improve. I have now run
into a problem, though. I bought a chess computer for home use that is
rated at around 2400, which will give Grand Masters a challenge. It beats
me on it's lowest level. Frustrating as all heck, but fun!

Hi James,

Hadley School for the Blind has a free course you can take that
teaches you Chess as well as gives you a free braille Chess set. Maybe
you will want to enroll for that class as I think it is exactly what
you are looking for here.

Cheers!

Hahaha. Being a bit biased aren't you? :D

Seriously, I'm glad this little app exists. I don't have an iPhone

comfortable with the phone which again is where the iPhone shines with
this LookTel app.

Hi all,

It's nearing over three weeks since I've tried to contact blind software about
my problem with troopanum and pipe. I've called, I've Emailed, I've written
here, I've contacted through their website, nothing. For both Classic Pipe and
Classic Troopanum when I start the game, I get the following error:
Troopanum graphic 798
graphic 775 Error 1556 license file not valid for this computer.
OK
Can someone please help me out, or help me get in touch with blind software?
Their support is terrible. I guess they're obviously not making games anymore..

Re: [Audyssey] Nearing over three weeks.

2013-04-04 Thread shaun everiss
hmmm I wander if its not something more serious their support is full
their boxes since last year end of anyway.
I registered pipe2 and I had a record issue the year before I was
able to get in touch and have it fixed.

However, most other games work.
I am due for an upgrade, but its strange that they have just gone offline.
even their blog is silent.
The last entry released ages ago was that justin was quite busy that
was in june last year though.

I vary much doubt blindsoftware would just up and go.
unlike bavisoft they have been in the core companies, and you don't
just up and go for no reason.
Justin does have a twitter I don't know what it is but if you can
message him through that maybe then.
The only other possibility is that blindsoftware has hit some snag
outside their control and they have had to stop or forced to be set
back for an unknown period.
Ofcause a lot of devs these days don't announce unless they have
anything so they can act like they are gone for ages and people will
start releasing registrations to their games thinking they are dead
and they come back.
Saying that, I have not heard anything on the primary ag forums and
no one seems to worried but maybe dark or someone can looky at this
its strange.

[Audyssey] looking for a mud client

2013-04-04 Thread Keith
Hi, have been playing AlterAeon for a while, want to try my hand at some of
the other genres out there. Mush z was apparrently made for use with
alteraeon, and to that extend, it kicks butt. But, when I try to get the
outpout window to open in a way to allow me to cut and past info from it, or
to save it altogether, it throws an error message saying something like
missing shortcut or something like that.

I'm talking about the control tab combo on this one. In the alteraeon game,
on the Mush z channel, I was told that toggling the outpout command (control
alt O) would allow this to occur, but the error persists. So, I'm in the
market for another mud client that will allow me to do this, along with
simple in game things like mush z allows, like repeating a command with a
simple push of the enter key. Apparrently, VIP mud does not allow you to do
this. I'm probably wrong, but I hav'nt found a way of doing this as of now.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Keith

Subject: [Audyssey] looking for a mud client

Hi, have been playing AlterAeon for a while, want to try my hand
at some of
the other genres out there. Mush z was apparrently made for use
with
alteraeon, and to that extend, it kicks butt. But, when I try to
get the
outpout window to open in a way to allow me to cut and past info
from it, or
to save it altogether, it throws an error message saying
something like

missing shortcut or something like that.

I'm talking about the control tab combo on this one. In the
alteraeon game,
on the Mush z channel, I was told that toggling the outpout
command (control
alt O) would allow this to occur, but the error persists. So,
I'm in the
market for another mud client that will allow me to do this,
along with
simple in game things like mush z allows, like repeating a
command with a
simple push of the enter key. Apparrently, VIP mud does not
allow you to do
this. I'm probably wrong, but I hav'nt found a way of doing this
as of now.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Keith

Re: [Audyssey] cyberassault on mushz

2013-04-04 Thread john

auto_retyping.xml
channel_history.xml
lua audio.xml (I put this in only because mushz uses it and I
don't know exactly what it does)

mush reader.xml
omit_blank_lines.xml (again, not sure what exactly this does)
output_functions (this is what you want)
repeat_command

Good luck. If that doesn't work, let me know offlist and I'll see
what I can do.

Okay, I've entered all the log in info into mush z for
cyberassault. The

only plug in I have set up for the game is Mush Reader.

When I try the control tab combo nothing happens. When I tap the
control
alt O combo to allegedly enable the output function, it tells the
that

ththere is an issue with a missing shortcut.

I have no problem using the output wing (control Tab) in
alteraeon, and have
attemped to use the same plugins as alteraeon with cyberassault
(minus the
ones, such as the alter aeon plug in that explicitedly says not
to use in

other games).

I get the missing shortcut error with those installed also.
When I try to
enable some plug ins, it gives me an error when I am in the plug
in window

anyway.

Can someone check their mush z setup for cyberassault and tell me
what plug
in they have installed and then what key stroke they use to get
tot he one

that i can reach in alteraeon (control tab)?

Thanks and sorry for being a pain.

Re: [Audyssey] a question regarding aprone's games

2013-04-04 Thread dark
I'll also add that the links to aprone's games both on his own page and on
audiogames.net, are always the latest version because A, he doesn't keep
past versions of the setup files around and B, though he does update the
programs, he keeps the names of the setup files the same, thus
swampsetup.exe has always! been called swampsetup.exe right from the early
versions onwards.

this of course makes maintaining the audiogmaes.net pages much easier since
I don't need to constantly update the file download links everytime there's
a new version as I have to do with some developers who include the version
number in the file name, not that it's a big deal to update one link and I
do see the point of including version numbers in file names so people can
check when they've got the new version before installing, still I'm lazy so
appreciate doing less work :D.

Beware the grue!

Before buying one, make sure that you can correctly identify the computer's

Try before you buy. Although I can determine the computer's move through

the activated square. The computer that use most often is the Novag
Citreen, (I'm sure that I am misspelling that, though). You can find it at

[Audyssey] /Roll Playing Games was Gamers Digest

2013-04-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicole,

Besides Puppet Nightmares you may want to look at a game called Sryth found at
http://www.sryth.com
which is the closest thing to tabletop roll playing games accept it is
browser based.

The game Alter Aeon, not Alter Ego, is a mud which is a type of roll
playing game played through a mud client. There are many of these
types of games and you may want to check
http://www.mudconnect.com
for a list of popular muds to join.

P.S.

Please, remember to change the subject of the post before sending to
the list. The title of the Gamers Digest isn't very helpful to us who
sort our mail before reading the messages. :D

[Audyssey] Moderator Appropriate Subject Lines Warning

2013-04-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello all,

I don't want to be a hard case about this, but I see a few list
members have been getting a little lax with giving their posts good
subject lines. If you See a post such as Gamers Digest instead of just
replying to it please by all means give it a more detailed subject
line as to what the contents of the message contains. Same goes if
someone forgets to give their message no subject line at all. If I
find any more cases of this I'm going to have to start moderating
posts and I will reject any and all posts that do not have appropriate
subject lines.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for a mud client

2013-04-04 Thread Shadow Dragon
I'm not really sure what the problem is here. As long as you have the output
window plugin added to the mud you're trying to play, Control Alt O should
indeed work. It sounds like your version of MushZ got corrupted somehow.

Just so you're aware. MushZ is not actually a client in it's own right. The
Sound pack used for Alter Aeon is called MushZ, but the client itself is
actually called MushClient and was not built spacifically for alter, isn't
even by the same developer. I think the developer of the MushZ pack has done
some slight modification to the Mush Client, some of them very unfortunate
like disabling the ability to preload worlds from files when creating new
muds, but yeah, the actual client itself was not made just for alter. You
could try getting the original MushClient installer, installing it elsewhere
so as not to mess with any of your alter stuff, and then adding the plugins
like output window and MushReader, they will all still work. MushClient is
very easy to find just by googling.

Subject: [Audyssey] looking for a mud client

Hi, have been playing AlterAeon for a while, want to try my hand at some
of the other genres out there. Mush z was apparrently made for use with
alteraeon, and to that extend, it kicks butt. But, when I try to get the
outpout window to open in a way to allow me to cut and past info from it,
or to save it altogether, it throws an error message saying something like
missing shortcut or something like that.

I'm talking about the control tab combo on this one. In the alteraeon
game, on the Mush z channel, I was told that toggling the outpout command
(control alt O) would allow this to occur, but the error persists. So,
I'm in the market for another mud client that will allow me to do this,
along with simple in game things like mush z allows, like repeating a
command with a simple push of the enter key. Apparrently, VIP mud does
not allow you to do this. I'm probably wrong, but I hav'nt found a way of
doing this as of now.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Keith

Re: [Audyssey] Error when trying to launch entombed.

2013-04-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

SQL stands for Structured Query Language. Its a programming language
specially developed for designing and managing large databases. In
this case MS SQL is Microsoft's SQL engine which Entombed uses for
managing large databases of information. I don't know exactly what
data is stored in MS SQL by Entombed, but the basic reason Entombed
needs it is that recent versions of Entombed now stores large amounts
of data in Microsoft's SQL database engine, and won't work without it.

Cheers!

this of course makes maintaining the audiogmaes.net pages much easier since

I don't need to constantly update the file download links everytime there's

[Audyssey] Promo Codes for Phrase Madness

2013-04-04 Thread Ken The PionEar
I'm giving away two promo codes for Phrase Madness to celebrate the possibility
of finally getting the game ported to iOS. The developer I have in mind for the
project, since I neither own a mac or can program in C, seemed very interested.
So to this end, I'll give two codes away. One code will be given to the person
who finds the most games in the iOS app store, (as yet undiscovered of course,)
and the other will be given to the person who writes ten valid ways I can
improve the game. By the way, the server in version 1.0 doesn't except comments
anymore, so make sure to upgrade to the latest version.

I'm giving away two promo codes for Phrase Madness to celebrate the
possibility of finally getting the game ported to iOS. The developer I
have in mind for the project, since I neither own a mac or can program in
C, seemed very interested. So to this end, I'll give two codes away. One
code will be given to the person who finds the most games in the iOS app
store, (as yet undiscovered of course,) and the other will be given to the
person who writes ten valid ways I can improve the game. By the way, the
server in version 1.0 doesn't except comments anymore, so make sure to
upgrade to the latest version.

Re: [Audyssey] Error when trying to launch entombed.

2013-04-04 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Strangely enough, someone on the entombed mailing list is havign possibly
the same problem. So I have pasted the solution below:

You're likely missing the SQL Compact 3.5 SP2. First, you have to uninstall
the version that 1.02x installed, likely SQL Compact 3.5 SP1. Then you have
to download the newer version from Microsoft and install the items
appropriate for your system. The link to the self-extracting archive for SQL
Compact 3.5 SP2 is located at:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5783

Run this exe and have it extract to some place where you'll be able to find
it easily, because that's the next step to browse to the location you just
extracted to. You'll notice there's three files, install.txt,
SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi, and SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. Depending upon whether
you have a 32-bit version of Windows or 64-bit, the install procedure is a
bit different. If you have a 32-bit Windows, then just run
SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you must
run SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi first, then SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. These same
instructions are found in the install.txt file.

If you're not sure whether your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, there's a
couple easy ways of finding out. Bring up Windows Explorer to show the list
of files and folders on your computer's c: drive, which is where most people
install Windows. If you have both a program files and a program files (X86)
folder, you have 64-bit Windows. Also check your Windows folder, if you have
a syswow64 subfolder, then you also have a 64-bit version of Windows.
Otherwise, if you only have the one program files folder and no syswow64,
you're running 32-bit Windows.

Once you've installed the SQL Compact 3.5 SP2, try running Entombed 1.05b
again, and let us know if you have any more problems. hth

It's the latest version of Entombed I'm trying to run. Where can I get that
package?

 Hi Lori,

If you are missing the SQL .NET package I mentioned all you have to do
is download and install it. That's assuming that is your problem. What
version of of Entombed are you trying to run here?

Re: [Audyssey] Look Tell game for iOS.

2013-04-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Thanks Thomas!

that really means a lot! Yes, the only other app I know of at present for iOS,
is called VoiceOver Starter and assumes the user already has quite a bit of
familiarity with VoiceOver and all the gestures necessary to work with it.

So the niche we're working in is the new user whom may be learning about an
iDevice or has just gotten one.

With the gamification scenarios, we also open this to the advanced user whom
might want some free little games to pass some time.

What's your opinion on the accessibility of Android at present? We'd love to
bring our apps to that platform as well but so far, the real honest
accessibility for new users just hasn't seemed to be viable or really that
great as compared with iOS. We're hoping this changes soon so I'm wondering
what your opinions are on this as it stands right now?…

Thanks bunches!

Cara :)

Hi Cara,

Hahaha. Being a bit biased aren't you? :D

Seriously, I'm glad this little app exists. I don't have an iPhone
yet, but its nice to know there are apps like this to help new users
get use to using their iPhone or iPad. One thing that I found with my
wife's Droid phone is I don't have any little training apps to get
comfortable with the phone which again is where the iPhone shines with
this LookTel app.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Appropriate Subject Lines Warning

2013-04-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

No, you are fine. I won't name names here, but its obvious which
messages of late have inappropriate subject lines such as Gamers
Digest Volume X or no subject line at all. Its mainly to those list
members my moderator message was directed at, but wanted everyone to
take notice that subject lines is a rule we are going to be really
enforcing now as it makes it difficult to look up information when it
is miss identified by the sender.

For example, Nicole asked about a game, Phrase Madness, and wanted to
know the URL where to download the game. For the life of me I could
not remember the address, and attempts to Google it failed. So I went
to the list archives and found it in back issues of the list archives.
I couldn't have found it easily if the subject of Ken's message had
been misleading or there was no subject. As it was I put in the search
key words for a subject containing Phrase Madness and came up with the
original announcement and the URL Nicole wanted. Therefore good
subject lines is very important for looking up information like that.

On 4/4/13, Charles Rivard wee1s...@fidnet.com wrote:
I appreciate your possible efforts in this matter. I figure, no subject
