computer virus, the Omega virus, and it is your job to find it and
destroy it. There was a board game version, and I do believe there was
a video game version of that game. In either case it was a very cool
game. I could see someone making an accessible blind friendly version
of that game for us to play.

The point here is that Ishan's idea wasn't necessarily a stupid idea.
Just not well thought through since it was meant more as a joke than a
serious consideration, but there are aspects of it that could be
developed into a serious game if one decided to develop the idea into
 something more serious.

what i do think though, their is a story their

this virus is infecting someone's computer, and it's your job to go and
retreeve the important information before it's too late- but to make it
fun, you can use diffrent methods to try and stop the virus from
spreading to other areas of the computer to give you more time.

it's not an entirely stupid idea, i just think it's not really been
properly thought through and it's more an insult to someone than a game

Hi Josh,

Wintads is a bit problematic with NVDA, but there is a CLI version,
tads32, which works pretty well in a Command Prompt window with NVDA.

As far as creating an RPG in one of the interactive fiction languages
a lot depends on how stat based you want your RPG to be. Inform, for
example, is okay for writing interactive fiction text adventures, but
really sucks if you are trying to write an RPG game with lots of stats
and skill levels.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] interactive fiction games question

2014-10-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,

Absolutely. There are several adult interactive fiction games
available on the web if you know where to look. There are some written
in Adrift, some written in Inform, a few in AGT, some written in
Tads, etc. I'd say I probably have at least 20, and those are just the
ones that were recommended to me. there are several I know about, but
never tried.

Two of my favorites were some x-rated Star Trek games. One was called
A Night With Deanna Troi and the other was Star Trek the Sexed
Generation. In the former you are basically in Deanna's quarters and
you can have sex with her in every room and just about any position
imaginable. In the other game, The Sexed Generation, if you play it
right you can have sex with pretty much every female character on the
show. The scene with Beverly Crusher in the hot tub on the holodeck is
an especially memorable hot sex scene.

Anyway, there are plenty of adult interactive fiction games out there,
and if you know where to look there are some good ones. Camp Windy
Lake and Paradise Hotel are two that come to mind as being a decent
start.

Cheers!

However I have noticed even with the extra resources, that say with

Hi Josh,

Oh, its totally doable for a blind person. Most interactive fiction
games have some programming language which can be written in say
Notepad, and then compiled into a game by using the compiler for the
language.

Take Inform as an example. You could write it up in Notepad, copy the
code into the Inform 7 IDE, and then build a file that can be
interpreted by Winfrotz. The Inform IDE isn't the most accessible IDE
in the world, but it can certainly be used by a blind developer.

 Hi everyone,
Speaking of rides that we remember, (and this may be one of the best ones),
is the Scream Machine that was at Six Flags Great Adventure Park in Jackson

the late 90's, they did have a functioning wooden coaster. You gotta love
'em. I do think that their are a handful of operating wooden coasters still
left in the country, though. One of you guys mentioned Seder Park in
Ohio--Possibly their?

At Dollywood in East Tennessee they have one I think it is called the
Screaming Eagle. You sit out kind of on a wing so that there is no platform
under your feet. And you do the loops, etc. so it feels like you are flying
 like an eagle.

This year they added one with a fire engine theme which is suitalble for
all ages. You rush forward and up an incline then run down that same track
 backward.

  Hi Emily,

Yes, it would help to name certain rides to make a distinction between
say two roller-coasters. Plus it would allow someone to actually build
certain theme parks like Six Flags, King's Island, etc since they
could use their rides as a template for a successful virtual theme

While Tom is correct on standard inform not working for rpg mechanics, I
will say some good rpgs have been made with glulks, that is inform 7. You
need to play the games with winglulx, filfre or another glulx interpreter
rather than frotz, but judging by Kerkerkruip found at
http://kerkerkruip.org/ it creates rpg mechanics extremely well.

I'd recommend Kerkerkruip to any fans of tactical combat rpgs, the game is
awsome and is getting more additions all the time, although I do sometimes
wish it was longer and involved more exploring, still the tactical fights
need to be experienced to be believed.

All the best,

DArk.

[Audyssey] Site Errors was 404 not found.

2014-10-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Sean,

Well, to start with there is no usagamesinteractive.us to begin with.
The site is usagamesinteractive.com. so if you are trying
usagamesinteractive.us then that is obvious why the site doesn't work.
Its an invalid URL.

As for why Audyssey.org is giving you errors we'll have to discuss
that off list. It shouldn't be giving you any errors, and the only way
to get to the bottom of it is to get the exact error message and run
some tests on your end to find out what might be wrong.

Cheers!

Hi Erik,

Its Cedar Park not Seder Park, and I'd have to check if they have any
wooden coasters. Last time I was there they didn't have one, but I
could be mistaken. However, when it comes to roller-coasters Cedar
Park has lots of them and I think is well known nationally for having
more coasters than most other amusement parks in the nation.

Hi Anouke.

I've filled in their form, but to be honest I'm not convinced of the way
they're going about things which game did you like the best? how the hell
do I answer tht? There are characteristics! I liked in various games.

Likewise, would you like orcs, zombies, elves etc and what setting? Really
I don't care so long as the game and mechanics are interesting.

it strikes me this is a very attempting to be corporate way around things,
trying to do markit research as opposed to just having a game idea and
running with it, or discussing game ideas with the community.

Sorry if this sounds too negative, I do appreciate anyone willing to have a
stab at developing a game and I hope something comes of this, but really
treating blind people like some sort of mice in a zoo seeing which food they
like is not nice, the people say they're gamers themselves, they might as
well ask all other gamers across the world what sorts of games they like!

Then again, I disagree with the corporate data gathering methods for
creating things anyway, myself I'd much rather see any old thing done well
so long as the developer/writer/director puts their all into it than
something which is just created to tick as many boxes and appeal to as many
demographics as possible!

This is part of what is wrong with current Doctor who, though that is
another topic entirely.

Myself, if I were going to send out a survey, I'd probably make it a very
broad one with questions like what sort of game mechanics interest you and
Would would prefer more action or careful choice , send to a few people,
and then read the answers and see if it gave me ideas than a rather cold do
people want pirates, ninjas etc, and what individual title is most people's
favourite so lets make a game similar to that

really sucks if you are trying to write an RPG game with lots of stats

I can't speak for Nvda or the addon, but to run Kerkerkruip (or any glulx
game), you can either just open it streight from the winglulx program, or
just find the story file in windows explorer or similar.

I'd recommend banging the story file in it's own folder so that it can
create sav files in the same location, but other than that there isn't much
else to do.

Re: [Audyssey] interactive fiction games question

2014-10-09 Thread dark
Glulx is pretty much it's own language, if you want to play games in
standard inform Zcode, you need frotz or similar, if you want to play glulx
games you need winglulx, though i believe there are multiple format
interpreters that do both.

The only real connection is that Glulx is technically inform version 7, and
I believe it has some programming similarities to inform, however being so
different to the standard zcode it needs a different interpreter to run.

You can certainly play background music in the games as a one off, but I'm
not sure if you could have a hole range of sounds playing at different
scenes etc, or at least whether it would be easy to do. If your wanting
that sort of thing your probably best looking at something other than an
interactive fiction language.

While other rides are fun, my favorites are the roller coasters. The best
old wooden coaster used to be at The Pike in Long Beach, California. On one
of the curves at the bottom of a really big hill, you went out over the
ocean, and it looked like you were going to go right into it! You can find
info about this coaster on YouTube, but I remember riding it when I was
young. The only way we could get Dad to go on it was to get him a drink
first, and he usually wasn't a chicken. Mom was, though. She said we were
nuts to ride that thing.

Re: [Audyssey] Fwd: Audiogame in developing

2014-10-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

I'm glad you brought this topic up as I had many of the same
reservations about the survey while I was filling it out. Asking
someone which game is his or her favorite might seem like a reasonable
question to some developers, but the fact of the matter is I don't
have a specific favorite game. I have certain favorites, and like each
of them for different reasons. For several reasons I was not able to
explain or articulate in the survey.

Moreover there was far too much focus on the setting, characters, and
storyline elements of the game than any kind of technical
considerations. I personally can care less if I'm fighting vampires,
cyborgs, or zombies as long as the game is good and enjoyable.
However, what makes a game enjoyable are often the technical aspects
like I'd like to recommend and was unable to do so.

A case in point is on choosing an operating system. The first check
box was for PC / Mac. By PC I assume here they meant Windows and by
Mac I assume Mac OS, but they totally cut Linux users out of the
voting process. Even if they chose not to develop any games for Linux
as a Linux user I'd liked to have been able to vote upon it or have
some say. So as a result if they choose to e-mail me about possible
beta testing I am going to ask them point blank why Linux was not
listed as an option as I strongly think someone needs to take them to
task for that over sight.
In any case like you I can't help but think they were going about this
marketing survey the wrong way. Not sure what they were looking for,
but I hope its not a case of x number people said they love Swamp so
let's create a game just like Swamp kind of thing. I prefer a
developer to use his or her imagination and create something new or
different rather than trying to create something based on statistics
of what customers like and don't like.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] amusement park rides we remember - Re: suggestion for park boss

2014-10-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

LOL. That bad, eh ?

My issue with roller-coasters is I am very sensitive to motion
sickness. I've been that way for the last twenty years so if I am on
any ride that goes to fast, takes too many curves, goes up and down,
sure enough I'm going to get horribly and miserably sick for the rest
of the day. Which means while I love roller-coasters, get a thrill out
of riding them, the effect of getting majorly sick isn't worth the
ride.

As a result I end up going on kid rides like bumper cars, boat rides,
train rides, or something that is gentle enough to not make me sick
but give me something of an enjoyable experience. It is truly
something of a bummer.

Hi Jim,

Correct. It is Cedar Point Park. Not sure how I left the word point
out of the name, but I haven't been myself this week. I am dealing
with some personal issues so my mind isn't all here. :D

Anyway, cool to know about the wooden roller-coaster. It has been a
long time since I have been to Cedar Point so am not sure what is
still there or not. Although, if finances and weather is permitting
I'd like to take my son to Ceader Point next summer.

 Hi Thomas,

I'm sorry, maybe it was a bit early or something, but it is Cedar Point park
not Cedar park. You know point because the park is built on a point that is
a peninsula that sticks out into Lake Erie.

And I do believe that they still have at least one wooden coaster. Mind
Ride if I am remembering correctly.

 Have a good one.
