I'm not quite sure what you mean by "because they are open source they're a
danger". A *lot* of very well known and successful software is open source:
7-zip, nvda, the linux operating system, just to name a few.

The very fact that they are open source is a danger. Plus it would be more
work for a developer, and the blind iDevice user market is far larger than
the blind Android user market, plus the vast number of phones and different
operating systems is a problem when it comes to Androids. The number of
iDevice types and operating systems is not much of a factor. Anything 7.0 or
higher is compatible for iDevice users, and most devices will be able to use
the software.

the
arcade game Air Hockey.

In Blindfold Air Hockey, you have a mallet or paddle, and there's a puck

The
puck heads towards your opponent's goal, where he knocks it back to you,
bouncing off of the walls as it gets closer to your goal. You block his
shot, and fire the puck back at his goal. The first player to score 7
goals
wins the game.

Using head phones or ear buds, you hear the puck heading towards you,

you control your mallet by moving your finger left and right. When the
puck
is close enough, you'll hear a ding sound, and you can swipe the puck
aim at
your opponent's goal.

Blindfold Air Hockey comes with a tutorial level, and 16 different

The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. To get more coins,
you

As I said - if you want to use that link you will need to use a download
manager. If you don't have one, go to audiogames.net and grab a download

[Audyssey] devices sold - Re: blindfold airhockey is now out

2015-11-20 Thread Charles Rivard
The reason that there are more Android devices sold is because there are so
many different Android devices on the market compared to iDevices. Take any
single model and make of Android phone and compare the sales to an iDevice,
and the Android will be blown out of the water. A huge number of people buy
Androids based on price, too, and they get what they pay for. Some Android
models even have problems of having been hacked, or already containing a
virus when they are bought. But they didn't cost much, either. Check past
episodes of a podcast named tii, which stands for Today In iPhone for
detailed information.

[Audyssey] blindfold tile puzzle is out for IOS

2015-11-20 Thread joseph weakland
Greetings all IOS users out there. I am letting you know that the game
blindfold tile puzzle has been released from kidfriendly software. Below is
description of app.

Description of App:

Description

Blindfold Tile Puzzle is a fully accessible tile game that includes the
popular games 2048 and Threes for both sighted and visually impaired people,
designed for rapid audio play.

Blindfold Tile Puzzle includes the 2048 game, and several variants where you
move tiles, and when two tiles touch with the same number, they merge into
one tile that's the sum of the two tiles. For example, 2 merging with 2
becomes 4, 4 with 4 becomes 8, and so on. You win when you get at least one
tile to 2048.

Blindfold Tile Puzzle also includes the Threes game, where you move tiles
and if the two tiles add up to a multiple of 3, they merge into one tile,
that's the sum of the two tiles. For example, 2 merging with 1 becomes 3, 3
merging with 3 becomes 6, 6 merging with 12 becomes 18. Each merged tile is
added to your score, and each time you play, try to best your previous best
score.

Several other variants are included, such as 2048 unlimited, and Alphabet.
You can customize the game to your liking: how much extra information is
spoken and how quickly it is spoken.

Blindfold Tile Puzzle was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed
Blindfold Sudoku and Blindfold Dominos.

To find it you can look for

Blindfold 2048 for key words or

In appstore search.

Have fun.

No, open source is not more vulnerable to viruses - if anything, its less
so.
Yes, you can view and modify a copy of the code.
This can teach you how the code works, so if there are bugs, you might be
able to exploit them.
On the other hand, if there are bugs, users can report them more easily.
Being able to modify a copy of the code does not mean you can get that
modified code distributed - you only have a copy, not the official source.
Certainly, I could write a piece of code and include it in a package and
then give a virus to everybody I could convince to run my modified code, but
that's about as far as it can go.
A perfect example of open source software is - or was - the encryption
software true crypt. This was used industry wide - corporations, governments
and individuals all relied on it, for a really long period of time. True
crypt was the gold standard - if you wanted high quality data security, you
used it, and if you wanted the code, you could get it.
In fact, part of the reason true crypt was as widely used as it was is that
it was audited by independent security professionals, something which isn't
possible without seeing the code.
Basically what this all boils down to is that open source is just as secure
as anything else - it all depends on the distribution mechanism used and,
more importantly, how well the code's written.

Why is open source dangerous? Because there is lots of hacking going
on that is why? Oh and why are the games called Blindfold this and
Blindfold That (insert name)?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "because they are open source they're

a
danger". A *lot* of very well known and successful software is open
source:
7-zip, nvda, the linux operating system, just to name a few.

The very fact that they are open source is a danger. Plus it would be
more
work for a developer, and the blind iDevice user market is far larger
than
the blind Android user market, plus the vast number of phones and
different
operating systems is a problem when it comes to Androids. The number of
iDevice types and operating systems is not much of a factor. Anything 7.0

or
higher is compatible for iDevice users, and most devices will be able to
use
the software.

Blindfold Air Hockey is an fully accessible audio game that's similar
to
the
arcade game Air Hockey.

In Blindfold Air Hockey, you have a mallet or paddle, and there's a
puck
on
the playing table. To start the game, hit the puck swiping your
finger.
The
puck heads towards your opponent's goal, where he knocks it back to
you,
bouncing off of the walls as it gets closer to your goal. You block
his
shot, and fire the puck back at his goal. The first player to score 7
goals
wins the game.

Using head phones or ear buds, you hear the puck heading towards you,
and
you control your mallet by moving your finger left and right. When the
puck
is close enough, you'll hear a ding sound, and you can swipe the puck
aim at
your opponent's goal.

Blindfold Air Hockey comes with a tutorial level, and 16 different
opponents
- varying from beginner to expert.

Blindfold Air Hockey was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed
Blindfold Breakout and Blindfold Bowling.

The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. To get more
coins,
you
can listen to advertising videos, or purchase coins as an in-app

Hi Danielle.

Sinse I often buy things in dollars, (and occasionaly euroes), I can do
rough convertions from British pounds in my head, but I've just been looking
around for a currency converter and found something very interesting.
if you type the basic amounts into google, you will be given an instant
convertion, eg, if you wanted to know what ten us dollars was in pounds
you'd type 10 usd to gbp.

For example,

19.49 euros = 20.7504 US dollars.

So, there you have it, the basic game costs 20 dollars an70 cents :D.

Hth.

Geez I have fallen in love with Jesus not Google! Thanks for the
conversion! Hope it should work for me in the future. That is an
interesting find and something I'd not thought to do. Google doesn't
work here for me antyway!

I definitely won't be spending that much on it. for the comparatively
small
extras of being able to customize a name or 2, I personally don't think
 that
the extra outlay is worth it. now if one could for example customize
 your
ship's features, get access to more and/or better weapons, better
 sensors,
faster engines and such, and/or unlock more or different missions, those
would be the sorts of things that I for one would seriously think about
 forking out extra for.

 Hi Simon,
I will be downloading this one as well. However, I'm very reluctant to
 spend
over €200 on an audio game. I don't know what this comes to in
 Australian
dollars but if it means getting your name the credits for purchasing the
gold edition, it's something to think about. This is one of my favourite
 game genres.

most people who run open source systems such as linux, though, know
better than not to run any old code that someone may just hand to them.
also because it is open source, linux security can be fixed faster than
windows security most cases.

No, open source is not more vulnerable to viruses - if anything, its less
so.
Yes, you can view and modify a copy of the code.
This can teach you how the code works, so if there are bugs, you might be
able to exploit them.
On the other hand, if there are bugs, users can report them more easily.
Being able to modify a copy of the code does not mean you can get that
modified code distributed - you only have a copy, not the official
source.
Certainly, I could write a piece of code and include it in a package and
then give a virus to everybody I could convince to run my modified code,
but
that's about as far as it can go.
A perfect example of open source software is - or was - the encryption
software true crypt. This was used industry wide - corporations,
governments
and individuals all relied on it, for a really long period of time. True
crypt was the gold standard - if you wanted high quality data security,
you
used it, and if you wanted the code, you could get it.
In fact, part of the reason true crypt was as widely used as it was is
that
it was audited by independent security professionals, something which
isn't
possible without seeing the code.
Basically what this all boils down to is that open source is just as
secure
as anything else - it all depends on the distribution mechanism used and,
more importantly, how well the code's written.

also most of the world's websites run on servers and those servers run
open source linux. I always keep a open source ubuntu linux disk around
with the open source screen reader orca on it because if i want to check
out a questionable website i can go to it running a live ubuntu disk and
it won't hurt my computer at all. it could be filled with windows
malware and viruses but those won't hurt linux at all. open source
software also gets updates probably more frequently than windows to
patch security holes and other such things. I also run open source NVDA
and have no issues.

You're incorrect here. You can modify your copy of the code, and *only* your
copy of the code. You cannot get others to run that code.
I also resent being called "dangerous" - and I suspect a number of other
folks on this list do as well - just because I happen to be able to write
programs.

No, open source is not more vulnerable to viruses - if anything, its
less

so.
Yes, you can view and modify a copy of the code.
This can teach you how the code works, so if there are bugs, you might
be

able to exploit them.
Basically what this all boils down to is that open source is just as
secure
as anything else - it all depends on the distribution mechanism used
and,

more importantly, how well the code's written.

2015-11-20 Thread Marty Schultz
I just wanted to jump in quickly; I won't really participate in this
android debate, but the key issue with apps created for android, is that
you can install any app on an android phone without going through
google play. And, google play store won't check your code for malware.
That means you can install malware on your phone, and that malware touch
other things on the phone just like windows malware can affect other
things, and reek havoc, not just on your phone, but by sending out fake
emails to people in your contact list, etc.

I am often frustrated by the extent that apple goes through to keep apps
clean and malware free, and as a developer, sometimes I have to jump
through hoops. But, as a consumer, I trust my iphone way more than I
trust the PCs or Macs on my desk.

You're incorrect here. You can modify your copy of the code, and *only*
your

copy of the code. You cannot get others to run that code.
I also resent being called "dangerous" - and I suspect a number of other
folks on this list do as well - just because I happen to be able to write
programs.

Charles, I could not have expressed it any better! I dislike the fact
folks can just modify code at will. The right person able to do this
can cause loads of trouble without even sending a virus either way
damage is done! Anybody with that kind of advanced savvy is dangerous!

Re: [Audyssey] exactly - Re: open source and viruses, was blindfold air hockey

2015-11-20 Thread john
I think we're starting to get a bit off topic, so I'll try to wrap this up.
I'm not saying that open source software can't be dangerous, I'm saying that
its no more dangerous than closed source, and often times less so, because
if you try to distribute something actually malicious open source, anybody
can call you on it, and the internet tends to be rather unforgiving of
people who openly try to hurt others - especially if you're obvious enough
to throw a giant roadmap out for everybody to look at. Its a rule of thumb
that you shouldn't run something if you don't have a clue what it does, but
this applies to both open and closed source software equally.
Somebody who writes malware still needs to convince you to run it, and
that's harder to do if you can see exactly what it does before you launch
the program. Malicious software that just sits on some cracker's computer
does nothing but make them look suspicious to police; its only when somebody
else willingly runs it that it becomes dangerous.
I suspect that, when you originally started this thread, you were thinking
more along the lines of attacks that involve spoofing a website or program,
in an attempt to convince users that the malware is actually legitimate.
This is different from open source; its similar to somebody changing a
phoneline so that when you try to call a friend, you get your arch enemy
instead. The two could be combined; one could modify source and then attempt
to fool people into believing that said modified source was the original,
but I think we're probably out in the realm of theory here as opposed to
actual practice, especially because of the reasons mentioned earlier.

2015-11-20 Thread Shaun Everiss
Well opensource is more ddangerous, in the sence that since it is
hackers and others can use it to make viruses, but they can do that anyway.

You can cut down with staying with lagit sites for the most part.
sadly you do need unchecky for a few installs /nocandy for candy
installs etc.
I don't think opensource is more dangerous than anything else the only
thing is that people can get access to it more easily I guess.
Don't get me wrong there have been times ie android where those of bad
wishes may want to hack a phone and there will always be that.
However that doesn't make opensource more dangerous than any other
electronic net app.

Anything
7.0 or
higher is compatible for iDevice users, and most devices will be able
to use
the software.

Re: [Audyssey] Link to the blindfold puzzle app

2015-11-20 Thread Charles Rivard
According to the app developer, due to a problem, the game has been pulled
from the store, but the fixed version should be out within a few days.
Also, I would not send the game to anyone. It should be gotten through the
appropriate source. Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] the swamp game

2015-11-20 Thread john
I took a brief look and the existing dropbox links weren't readily apparent.
Therefore, here's a temporary one:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/85682400/Swamp.zip
Download will remain valid for a brief period; don't bet on anything more
than this weekend.

As I said - if you want to use that link you will need to use a download
manager. If you don't have one, go to audiogames.net and grab a download
link from dropbox.

[Audyssey] New from choiceofgames a study in steampunk

2015-11-20 Thread dark
For some odd reason, when I try to forward the actual e-mail it tends to
bounce, so I'll just copy the appropriate info.

People who want to read the original announcement can go to:
http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=eba910fddc9629b2810db6182&id=6dc3efb129&e=2f6fd706f2

There's a new game in our
Hosted Games
program ready for you to play!
Steam-powered mechs meet forbidden
sorcery!
Inspired by Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Jekyll & Hyde, and Jack the Ripper,
A Study in
Steampunk: Choice by Gaslight
is an epic 277,000-word interactive mystery novel by
Heather Albano, co-author of "Choice of Broadsides," "Choice of Zombies," and
"Choice of Romance: Affairs of the Court." Your choices control the story. It's
entirely
text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast,
unstoppable
power of your imagination. It's 25% off until December 1.
The game is afoot! In a world of gaslit streets, mysteriously long-lived
foreign nobles,
and master criminals, will you defend your Empire from spies or overthrow it
from
within? Advocate science and reason or learn forbidden magic? Romance men,
women, both, or neither? End as a healer, a freedom fighter, a vigilante, or a
traitor?
The fate of the Empire is in your hands!
Solve mysteries, hunt criminals, and match wits with enemy spies.
Defend your homeland from the machinations of a master criminal and the
conspiracies of the evil Vlaski Empire.
Search for the truth about the sorcerers that reigned before the age of steam.
Build deep friendships, acquire powerful enemies, and perhaps even find true
love.
Explore all the dark corners of a gaslit, fog-shrouded city.and unearth all its
secrets.

Also note that they had two other games out two weeks ago. One under
Choiceofgames called diabolic where you play as a super villain, and one other
hosted games called "attak of the clockwork army" (no prises for guessing what
that one is about).

As usual you can buy and play these directly on www.choiceofgames.com, or from
the Ios or Android ap stores by looking under choiceofgames or hosted games.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Open source end of discussion

2015-11-20 Thread dark
Okay, I'll be the first to admit I'm not a list moderator, however as Tom isn't
here perhaps I could briefly borrow my moderation hat from audiogames.net for a
second.

John is correct, the discussion of open source has I think got away from games,
so might I suggest we please finish that topic and get back to gaming,
especially given how many games are floating around right now?

As I said, I'm not a list mod, but I think this is what Tom would be saying
were he here, and hopefully he'll be back to say it himself before long
:D.

If Damien or any of the existing list moderators want to tell me this is none
of my beezwax, ffare enough.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Blindfold Vee Ball

2015-11-20 Thread Appleman
Hi all,
I just came across Blindfold Vee Ball in the App store. This is based on the
Ski Ball game, where you roll a ball up a ramp. There are 5 holes the ball can
land in. Depending on which hole the ball lands in determines the number of
points you score, which can range from 10 to 100. I haven’t played this yet but
have installed it on my iPhone. Enjoy.

[Audyssey] Choice of Games: accessibility?

2015-11-20 Thread Tobias Vinteus

Hi,
I've successfully been playing games from Choice of Games online on their
website. Since they offer their titles on Android, Chrome Webstore and
Steam, I wonder, are any of those platforms even more accessible than the
web version or might I as well stick tothe web version?

Thanks,
Tobias

You can't share games from the App Store anyway as they are encrypted with your
Apple ID. You can however share the links to them.
