There is a status window popping up when Mudix is starting I'll have to check the sourcecode of mudix and see if I can make it dissapear. This MUD client is dedicated to Wormhole MUD and autoconnects when you access the webserver. However there was a problem with the MUD so that might have been a bit confusing. You might want to have a look at http://wormhole.se/index.php/Visually_Impaired , that should give you some tips on how to get started. The login should work as following: Server sends: By what name do you wish to be known: You type: A name you want to use and press enter. Server sends: Did i get that right, the name you wrote? (Y/N) You type: y and press enter This only happens when you create a new character, if you already have a character you will get a password question. Now the process of creating your character starts. You will be presented with a number of questions. I won't go through them all here buy let me know if you need more help. [Audyssey] AJAX MUD client
Hey, I have been working on a web based MUD client. The question is if it is accessible. Could you please try it and let me know? You can find my testing setup at: http://pecillo.kicks-ass.org It is currently running on my server at home. Once we decide if it's ready for prodution we will move it to a propper server. I have used the following components: Apache websever with mod_proxy Ajaxterm Openssh client and server. Using auto login with a certificate and forcing the user to run a specific application. Mudix - A nice and simple mudclient for the Linux/Unix console. Rgds, Adam http://wormhole.se/index.php/Visually_Impaired ___ Gamers mailing list .. On 1/8/07, ShadowDragon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I need to get this out in the open. For as long as I can remember I've wanted to make a mud of my own, and I have the perfect plan for one. I've got the framework of the mud layed out perfectly in my mind and everything, it'll be extremely awesome when its finished. I said when, not if. - cut out, see original message - I had a quick look at your ideas and it sounds great! I like the idea you have about communications in game, but that would force you to not only write a MUD but also a custom client for the game. Popping up windows is not something you do in a terminal window so you can forget all about monkey term, gmud and all the other standard clients. Even if most people use Windows today you will loose all Linux users. Correct me if I'm wrong but Linux works quite well for visually impaired, right? How well does webbrowsers work? How do you deal with frames on webpages? Would it be possible to write the game so that you play it from a browser, separating different parts of the userinterface in frames. 1 frame for stats 1 frame for world descriptions 1 or more frames for communication. Player to Player, Game to Player and maybe Player to Group Since I'm not visually impaired it's quite hard for me to imagine how and what works. I did try to use Jaws blindfolded. But I nearly hurt myself missing the keyboard, well not quite that bad but still I had a hardtime just typing and I realized how much I rely on seeing my keyboard. And I have been using computers since 1986! /Adam ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] jfw and muds?
On 1/10/07, Yvonne Alaniz [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Okay, I have read the info on the web sites and I still feel like I don't really have a grasp on what exactly these clients are supposed to do and how they install. all the language was very technical. A MUD client is a terminal client. Meaning it connects to a different computer and is a extension of that remote computers screen. Difference between a MUD client and a teminal client like hyperterm or telnet is that it has functions to improve the gaming experience. Like support for triggers, scripts and aliases and a address book with a list of your favourite games. Triggers example: You get the message: You are hungry normally you would have to type eat food but your trigger intercepts the message and send eat food to the game. Alias example: You have ran out of food and need to buy some more so you issue the command gobuyfood but the alias sends north, north, open door, west, buy food to the game. Scripts are even more advanced and are often used with triggers to automate things. Installation is often pretty simple. And it does not get to complicated until you start using triggers and scripts, something that you normally don't need. Adam http://wormhole.se/index.php/Visually_Impaired ___ Gamers mailing list .. I went to a disability exhibition, and on display there is a prototype of a notetaker using Debian-based Linux with Speakup. What I'd like to know is, does anyone know where I can find text-based games which work under Debian Linux? Ari I would do a search on http://freshmeat.net for text game. Most (All?) games there are GPL so you should be able to compile them or download a .deb file if there is one available. Infocom has made a whole bunch of cool text games. You can get a z-machine interpreter from http://www.csd.uwo.ca/Infocom/ and a game package of 20 games is sold on http://underworld.fortunecity.com/track/946/ . The easiest way of installing a z-machine interpreter on Debian would be to type apt-get install frotz since there is a package for it in the APT system. But in terms of accessibility, it's pretty good. In fact, I might start playing again--at least it's sci-fi. We are working on ships and space areas. Today only the immortals can fly them but that will change. A ship in Wormhole is like a mini-area that you can explore complete with mobs and objects. The ships can be armed today but we still need to figure how to get ship to ship combat to work. First step will propably to replace some of the teleporters with ships so that you can fly between different areas. Check http://wormhole.se/index.php/Current_events for more info.
