ok. another thing, while you are smashing up the house he (or it???) tries
to destract you. with, say, pots and pans, he throws them at you. no
  matter
if it hits you or not, it will land on the floor. and, you guessed it...
  you
can pick them up. and then you can use the things he throws at you as
  weapons!
in the living room is a fireplace, so he will try to use it as an
  advantage,
burning objects and throwing them. your best bet is to avoid them,
  otherwize
he will go for them again and throw them again, and the flames are hot,
  and
they basicly stun you for different amounts of time depending on the
  difficulty level.
i'm not too sure what else to say, if anyone has any questions don't
hesitate to ask and i will try and answer them. lol, if you want you could
even try your hand at this game.
oh and one more thing. i recommend making this a freebie.

either get a pizza for my birthday, or make homemade brownies. Brownies are

I guess the only other option then is just to quietly work on it and hope
 we
 won't get caught.
By the way, how many lord of the rings fans are there on this list, or
dungeon siege? Since we already have two people working on some star wars
games, maybe I should give them the sounds, and hold off on makeing one so
 I
don't accidentally rip off someone else's ideas.

  Hi David,
The sad thing here is that both Paramount and Lucasfilm have extremely
inflated concepts of what there sounds, stories, etc should cost.
In my inquest with Lucasfilm for SW Jedi Strike the price quoted was so
horrably out ragious I could have baught a new house and a car for what
it would cost me to legally write Jedi Strike.
Why? Well, Lucasfilm obviously deals with million dollar contracts, and
if you are a small time developer they basically tell you to buzz off
  and light somewhere else.
The Lucasfilm games devision Lucas Arts also doesn't seam to be that
interested in making accessible PC Ggames are focussing in PS2 and Xbox
titles now which are not all that accessible.
I don't have answer for this one, but something has to give. Either we
give up with our tails between our legs, we fight it in court, or we
quietly work on it and hope we don't get caught. That is the only
  choices available.
As you pointed out the sound effects are very specific to that show or
movie. Lacking them you might as well not even work on the game. The
sound effects are what for us makes the movie and or game so real.

  david wrote:
I can agree with you, but in order to make Star Wars and Star Trek games,
you must use the sound effects relating to those trademarks. You can't
  just
design them yourself. Otherwise, it won't be star wars or star trek.
Unfortunately, Lucas Film and Paramount don't sell there sounds, making
getting sounds from games one of the only options. If Lucas and Paramount
would sell there sounds for reasonable prices like Sound Ideas do, then
  we
could use them instead of sounds from games.

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker Update (includes first audio impression)

2007-01-15 Thread rob
Well i guess the real bugs will appear when the hundreds of people will

extremely ok.

Subject: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker Update (includes first audio impression)

 Hi Folks!

Development on Audio Game Maker is still going on. Due to time constraints
we fear that we will have very little to no time available for extensive
testing. We would therefore like to call the release on February 1st 2007
a béta-release. This means that Audio Game Maker is still released
Februari 1st but it may still contain some bugs and may not feature some
specific functionalities. We will keep you updated!

On a slightly more positive note, click the following link to download an
mp3 preview of what Audio Game Maker will approximately sound like:

 http://www.audiogamemaker.com/downloads/audiogamemakerpreview1.mp3

In this preview you will first hear how a new world is selected and how a
new player object is added to this world. After that you will hear how a
property (in this case the y-property of the player) is set to 1. You
will then hear a Portal Object being built at some distance from the
Player Object (the Builder moves away from the Player Object). The Audio
Environment is then temporarily exited to create a new World. In the
World Settings Menu the acoustics of this second world is then set to
cathedral. Then you will hear how the Worldsound and the Moodsound for
this world is set. After that a new player and another portal are added
to the second world (you will then hear the builder turn 360 degrees in
front of the player object). Then we return to the first world and set
the properties of Portal 1 so that it links to the portal in world 2.

Please note that this is only a preview to give you a first impression of
Audio Game Maker. Many sounds are still missing and this is *not* the
 final soundmix.

 Greets,

 Richard

Re: [Audyssey] star wars sounds

2007-01-14 Thread rob

Well, since enemy attack and jedi quest will have two different consepts i
don't think so we'll have two same (or slightly different) sw games.
Basically in jedi quest you'll be able to move in a 3d environment (just like
in shades of doom) with a lightsaber in hand, and if you pick up a blaster
or thermal detonator you'll be able to use it as well.
It'll contain lots of puzzle-like elements, you have to figure out a secret
code to be able to enter to different areas, push buttons with the force to
lower bridges to be able to walk through pits, or just use your force jump
to jump through.
As we're planning to do it as much realistic as we can, probably you will
have lots of things to do, in the pit's case you can jump through or push
the button and you can walk on a bridge across it.
Also enemies willhave weaknesses like in the original movies, destroyer
droids will have a shield, and other things like that.
Currently we're designing the whole environment, objects, traps, etc.

ok. Since the files or rather the files are spread across three or four
folders I'll upload them a folder at a time in zip files. and then I'll
paste the links here. I'll call the files swsounds1.zip swsounds2.zip and
 so
on. I'll do it later on this afternoon. I think it'd be cool to have a
 enemy
attack-like sw game which is unbeatable and you just fight enemies and rack
up points. Also, I want to be careful and not accidentally make a copy or
rip-off of what Rob has planned for jedi quest. It wouldn't make sense to
have two games that are the same just having different names in my opinion
so I want to be careful about that.

Re: [Audyssey] star wars sounds

This is not decided yet, we have to consider the copyrighted sounds and
everything.
One possibility is that it would be free, and we'll sell other games just for
a small price which covers the money which we invested into the projects.

Hello Josh,
Jaws doesn't support vb 2005, it means by default no vb 2005 scripts are
installed when you install it. However there are scripts written for it. I
don't know how bad or good they are.
As far as i know vb 2005 Xpress edition won't allow you to compile your

You'll find the insect spray in level 2. You just have to leave the room

  HI all
The manual says you can only shoot the mosquito robot with insect spray.
But I can't find the insect spray anywhere.
  Has anyone find it?
It seems like no other weapon works on the mosquito robot.

It seems i had a misunderstanding here.
I talked about vb6Pro and vb6 express edition, while i didn't realize that
the express edition (in subject) is vb 2005's.

 Hi Rob,
I really do disagree with that. There are many reasons I can look to,
but VB 6 Pro is not a great choice. XP and Vista are moving to a
net-centric platform, and VB 6 is being dropped and unsupported by
Microsoft. Another reason is modern programming design is all
oop-centric moddled after fully oop languages such as Java, C#.NET,
VB.NET, and VB 6's oop features are laughable.
The VB.NET Express 2005 IDE and compiler is actually quite good. It
certainly is able to do allot, and if you get the .NET Framework 2.0
documentation that comes with the SDK you'll find out you can do allot
 with it.
 Cheers.

Hi Thom,
3d, 3d environment means 3d audio in this case. The movement won't be full
3d, since you won't be able to look up or down as you mentioned. Jumping
will also work.
Sorry if i was not clear enough.

 Hi Rob,
Shades of Doom is not a 3D game. It is a 2D game with a 3D audio sound
 environment
So when you say 3D is your movement fully 3d, or is just the audio 3D.
I'd like make it fully clear before you advertise something is not
 really the case.
For example, in the 3d Star Wars games I have played take Mysteries of
the Sith Mara Jade could jump through Windows on buildings and on to
roof tops in the Imperial city, and you'd have to shoot down or up and
enemies as well as your fforward, back, and left and right directions.
 Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] lite battles

2007-01-13 Thread rob

Hello Josh,
Light battles is renamed to jedi quest, as you can read on our news page.
It is under a slow development, due to the fact that we have to rewrite it
from scratch.
It'll use a full 3d environment, so it'll be much realistic than the previous
one was (only 3 positions, left right center when you had to fight against
a sith, and a sidescroller against troopers and droids).
Also it won't contain levels. I think it'll take aproximatly one year, but
this can varry depending on various things (bugs, sounds and coding time)
We had to take that step because other than the saber movement it wasn't
realistic (star wars like). we'll post more information as the development
of the game progresses.

Re: [Audyssey] jedi quake

2007-01-12 Thread Rob
I don't know the exact number of the maps, but i know that you have more than
one episode, i believe 3 or 4, each episode has about 7 maps.
Regarding the impulses, there are two rtf documents in jq's folder which tells
you in great detail the impulses, and what they do.

Re: [Audyssey] jedi quake

2007-01-12 Thread Rob
Yes, it'll play the same demo, but actually you can use other weapons other
than the first nine.
You won't notice changes in the actual quake (e.g. other footsteps sound),
because jq is not a full quake modification, it is like an extension, it allows
you to use
different weapons, like light saber, stun gun, saber dart, and others.
When you're in quake, press your console key to activate your console, then you
can try the new mod, by typing 'dm', that'll start a deathmatch (with bots and
you),
and here you can use the different weapons/additions, and you can see how they
work.
The latest version won't work with the single player mode, due to sound
precaching problems. I believe jq 3.8 has a sp and dm version (single
player/death match),
which you can use with sp mode.
You install it as you did before with jq 4, and then just choose jq 3.8 sp. Of
course, the new modifications won't be available which you can find in jq4,
because it is
an earlier version.

I go into audio quake and press m for mods press enter till I'm on
jedi-quake, and then press p and enter to play it it still plays the same
quake demo as it did before. How do I make it play jedi quake?

Re: [Audyssey] The Horse Racing Game

2007-01-12 Thread Rob
Hello Cara,
A big thanks for the bug report.
It was our first project, and since we're more experienced than we were,
sometimes when we (or other people, like you) finds a bug, it is curious why we
did this, and
that.
I'll see what i can do to fix it.
THRG uses: a speech output (jaws, microsoft's speech api, or window eyes),
directX 8 (or higher), ComAudio (which is installed by the game if you don't
have it
installed before) and direct show (which can cause troubles if you have
problems with your mp3 directshow filter).
From these, you said you have DX installed, so that part is ok. ComAudio (if
light locater works) is also ok, however you never know, it is not really
stable. If you're
using sapi, the speech part must be ok, but i don't think so you have troubles
with it, since Audio Quake tests it every day *big smile*
If you've played with judgment day, your mp3 directshow filter is right as
well. Right now, it seems the requirements for the game are filled, however
these are only my
guesses, since i do not know your systtem, and if it works on one computer,
nothing ensures that it will work on another (usually it does).
If it seems everything is ok, please contact me off-list, and i'll send you a
copy which maybe can help us to debug it. (debug edition, smile)
Happy gaming,
Rob

Hello to Rob from Light Tech

I have it installed and have all of the necessary components installed

chokes like you wouldn't believe when I bring it up. The window seems to
continue to try to open and then close again, so it basically keeps coming
up and going down repeatedly very quickly, many times a second. It seems
as if it's having trouble initializing something but that's just a guess...

Anyway, I shut the program down via the task manager and it shuts down
without incident but I thought I'd let you know.

I can run Light Cars and will download Light Locator to see how that one
goes as well...

I have the latest Direct X and .net framework 2.0 and am running win XP...

Anyway, just thought you should know...

Re: [Audyssey] winboard for jfw and online chess

2006-12-28 Thread Rob
Hello,
As far as i know the version which jfw works with supports online play, but it
is impossible to check that radiobutton, probably it is a bug. In the latest
version of winboard
the bug is fixed, and it is possible to play, but it doesn't work with jfw.
The winboard for jfw was a modified winboard executable, which used the JfwApi
interface. As
far as i know, there is no update for Winboard for JFW, which would include the
latest winboard executable.
So, though virtualy Winboard for jfw supports online play, it is not possible
to play due to a radiobutton.
It is possible that i am not right, and if it is the case, please correct me
(maybe somebody found out a trick to check the radiobutton in the game
selection dialog).
