Hi Tom!
I just downloaded the game and really like it, the music is really cool!
But I think the skeletons have a way to big sword range. I don't know
how to jump over them without getting injured... Can you maybe adjust
that? Keep up the good work!

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-02 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Shaun,
Well, I use AVG Internet Security and it's great. The firewall is
perfect, also because it doesn't block really everything at first but
lets you decide which programs should connect to the internet and which
ones shouldn't. The only thing I tourned off was the daily test because
that slowed down my laptop to much. Also, I've never had any problems
with games, the only games I had to allow in the firewall were SoundRTS
and AudioQuake which is absolutely perfect because they connect to the
internet. As for key generators, I'm disappointed to see you're actually
using them. They're just crap and it's much better to purchase the
programs you like. Also, by purchasing software you support the
developer and allow them to continue writing good software...

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Quake: eyes model detected?

2008-01-20 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Cara!
Thanks for your reply. Well, the problem is that the game won't start,
the only thing I can do is quit the Launcher. This happens on both my
comp and my laptop. And as I said before, I can play AQ without JQ
without any problems... Also, there were no errors during installation,
the .qmod file just installed JQ and then I hit I think enter to exit
setup... Hmmm... So yeah, what can I do now???
As for my msgs to you, the only addy that I'm using is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I hope that will work now! I still haven't gotten
your private E-mail yet, maybe you just haven't sent it yet or it takes
some time. Also, we could talk on MSN, I'm online right now and will be
here for the next 6 hours I think. So yeah, hope we got this e-Mail
problem fixed and the AQ / JQ problem as well!

Hi robin, this is an AQ problem and not a JQ one. As long as it
isn't crashing your game, you should be just fine...

This is happening in the latest version of AQ, but you can safely
ignore it. Matthew will be taking care of it in the next release /
 RC...

As for your note yesterday, I'll be writing you off list
 along with
this note to see if you get it. Not sure why your notes
 might not be
getting through, which addie(s) are you using?...

Anyway, best of luck and don't worry about the error, it's
 simply a
 harmless message at the moment...

Well, acording to the AQ server stats, TBRN.net is up again. I tried
connecting directly to the IP address and it just said connect (IP) and
nothing else. Only thing I could do is enter quit... Well, what could be
so terribly wrong here? There's no firewall, nothing that could keep AQ

Re: [Audyssey] Enabling Voice Over

2008-01-04 Thread Robin Kipp
Hey all,
Thanks for all the replies! Sorry for posting an off-topic message here,
but I had to know that really quickly. I just returned from the store
and am quite impressed by how well it works. The only problem now is
that Voice Over is only available in English and not in German. And
since the English version of MAC OS is not included on the German Apple
DVD, I guess what I'll do is order the MAC Book in America so I have the
English os. This won't be a problem for me, the only thing I'll have to
think about will be how to read German E-mail and websites with an
English synthesicer. But well, everyone was quite impressed how easy it
was for me to use the MAC Book after pressing 3 keys. Oh and btw, forgot
to turn it off, lol. Thanks for your help!

[Audyssey] Remapping shift to alt in Monty

2008-01-04 Thread Robin Kipp
Hey again,
OK, I know I have suggested quite a few things for Monty already, but my
next suggestion isn't that difficult I think and maybe more of a bugfix.
Well, the problem is when I hit shift to run for a moment the key lock
window comes up and the game loses focus which is pretty annoying when
running away from a monster. Also, when I alt+tab I don't get back to
the game, but to one of the other programs running in the background.
Well, would it maybe be possible to change the run command to he alt key
so that won't be an issue anymore? Thanks and sorry for another
suggestion! :-)

[Audyssey] Lasers in Monty?

2008-01-03 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Tom and all,
Here's an idea that came to mind when I was playing Monty before.
Couldn't there be lasers in some places of the game that fire in certain
intervals and you have to run through them when they're not doing
anything? Would be another cool challenge in the game! What do you
think?

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway for Mac or Linux?

2008-01-02 Thread Robin Kipp
Hello Claudio,
No, Thomas is by no means James North. When James North decided to stop
developing games, Tom was kind enough to take them over and finish them
all by himself. What James North did before, e.g. allowing preorders to
soon is not Tom's fault. He can release the game whenever he wants, no
matter if it's 2008, 9, 10, 11 and so on. You know, writing audio games
isn't how Tom earns all the money that he and his family need. He has to
do other things like meet friends, work, etc. And you know, it's really
awesome that Tom wants to get into another programming language to allow
cross platform compatibility, not every developer would do that. The
thing is that MAC already has an included screen reader and also Linux
can be downloaded for free with speech. Because of that, I think we will
see more and more blind comp users switching to MAC or Linux because you
don't have to buy an expensive screen reader like Jaws. Also, the fact
that you can install MAC and Linux completely without sighted help makes
it even more interesting. So instead of just using his current
programming language C-Sharp he decided to go and learn a new
programming language which is really great because it really isn't easy
to learn a new programming language at first. So maybe it'll take a bit
longer until the game is ready, but in the end we will have a game that
runs on Windows, MAC and Linux!!!
Well, that were my thoughts on that topic and Claudio, I'd really like
you to consider such things before posting messages like the last one to
the list or any other list. Thanks!
Robin

Re: [Audyssey] programming games

2007-12-31 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Bryan!
Well, you can use any editor you want for Python. Just put in all the
lines and save it, the file extension must be .py. However, if you write
a script that will just print some text like print 'Hello world!' be
sure to put a raw_input() at the end of the script. Otherwise, the
script will print the text on the screen but then close immediately. As
Tom told you, the only problem with Python is the formatting. You
probably won't find an editor that does that for you automatically
because this editor would have to know which line belongs to which
function and what goes together and what doesn't which would be almost
impossible I think...

Well, a good Python tutorial is a byte of Python. Right now I'm not

Google. Many people suggested it to me and I think it is really great
and explains everything from the beginning. Have fun!

Hi CARA and all!
Well I'm fine Cara, thanks! What about ya? Was wondering why you were so
quiet on the list for so long, glad to see you made it back!!! Feel free
to send me a msg off list as well if ya wanna. Well, I just listened to
Kevin's demonstration of installing Apple OS 10 Leopard on his Mack Book
which I'd certainly want to have. Well I must say I am impressed!!!
Really IMPRESSED!!! Good job Steefe Jobs! :-) Implementing a screen
reader directly into the os plus the installation (!!!) is really,
really great. And the sounds in the screen reader are really helpful I
think. When you focus a line or progress bar, Voice Over will play a
click or read out what's going on whereas if you focus a line of text
with Jaws Jaws won't do anything when the text changes which is really
bad and annoying. Now implement a scripting language into Voice Over and
I'll throw my Windows comp out the Window! Thanks for all the info, the
only thing is that now I probably won't order any audio games for years
now because I have to save money for a MAC Book, sorry devs! Lol

Hey Robin, how are ya?!!! How have you been?...

Yes, the current Screen Reader for Mac OSX is free and
 built in to
it. It's called VoiceOver and you can find a whole bunch on it by
 Googling...

As you may know, you can also run any other OS you'd like on the
Mac as well, either as a dual boot environment or
 virtualized, so you
can use any screen reader you'd like, depending on the OS
 you're using
 at the time...

So, to get back on topic of games, or their coding more
 aptly, just as
an FYI, the latest ver of OSX, (Leopard) comes with several cross
platform languages also built in. I.E. Perl and XCode support... I
haven't personally touched on them yet, but am planning to
 very soon...

HOpe all is well and have a wonderful new year!...

 Smiles,

 Cara :)

 Hi Bryan,
Yeah, I'd rather not get caught up in the old this dev is
better than the other dev discussion. All I will say is that
my desire in creating Genesis is to make game creation
technology available for people who have neither the time,
money, or skills to create their own games. On the other
hand making the technology absolutely free is a pipe dream,
but that doesn't mean I have to charge thousands of dollars
up front either. One practical solution for this is to base
the engines income on the percentage of sales earned by an
associate game developer using the engine. If I have a
standing agreement for 25% in royalty fees and that dev makes
$1000 I get $250 in royalties. That isn't too bad if you are
selling the games you create with the engine. The only flaw
with that plan is the type of game developers who just want
to play around with it and make free games. They wouldn't be
paying me royalties, and I'd be losing money. So at a minimum
there would still have to be some sort of up front fee for
purchasing the software, but I don't know as yet what would
be a fair price for an up front price.

Re: [Audyssey] Piraci and code generator

2007-12-27 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Claudio!
A game / program can decide whether a license key is correct or not
because keys are generated using a specific algorithm implemented in the
game. So if you enter a key, the program checks if the key matches to
the algorithm or not. If yes, the game is registered if no you get a
nice error message.

price for this program is way to high, you'd better buy a good tutorial
for a programming language and write your own games from scratch. This
way you can fix bugs much easier because you know the programming code
and where the mistake could be. And by the way, why don't you use Audio

Re: [Audyssey] Copyrighted material

2007-12-22 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Bryan,

Like I said, could you imagine the headlines? It's one thing
 to sue a rapper
for using Pacman sounds in one of his songs since he's likely
 to have the
money, but suing a blind game developer who is just one
 person is far more
likely to attract unfavorable attention than suing some rich
 rapper dude.

Yes, but so many single people are being sued for money they don't have.
Think about all the people who use file sharing programs instead of
legally buying the music they like. Also, having to pay money is only
one possibility. I think people also had to go to jail for using or just
downloading copyrighted materials. I believe you could even say writing
audiogames using copyrighted music etc. is even worse than file sharing
- after all when you use a file sharing program you mostly just download
the copyrighted stuff whereas when you write an audiogame you widely
redistribute the copyrighted stuff...
And how could big mainstream companies lose their faces? OK, maybe there
will be some discussions but after the next great video / game or
whatever all will be forgiven and forgotten...

Thanks for the link. I just listened to the first section and am really

the nowhere, I hope I was even flying lol... And well I had fun just

changed the reality level to high or something. Well since I'm really
into flying and even was able to fly the (real) flight simulator of the
German Lufthansa airline, I'd really love to talk to Scott on Skype to
go through the process of setting it up, creating a flight plan and,
most importantly, flying! Scott, I think you are on this list as well.

Hello all,
Because Tom is talking about a new Star Wars game, there's also a Star

the original StarTrek soundtrack in Final Conflict, use original
characters in a Star Wars game or write a new version of Monty? (That
counts for other defs as well, I'm just using Tom as an example). Aren't
the Star Trek soundtrack, the Star Wars characters and the games

a suggestion for the pause function (u): sometimes when I'm playing a

a message I received on MSN or something else I have to do on the
computer. Now the problem is that the game continues after I press any
key which is really annoying, because, for example, when I type
something and hit the letter w uncle Sam tells me the number of swords
I have. Tom, could you maybe change that so that the game will only
continue after hitting u again?

2007-12-15 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Tom!

  Also, are there
any news about Monty? I think Tom is probably working on the

There has been quite allot of news and discussion about
 Monte, and you
can get summaries of the major press releases at:
http://www.usagames.us/news.php Also the Audyssey archives is an
excelant place to catch up on general
list news, and entire volumes of emails on Monte. More than I could
cover here in this one email.

OK, thanks for the links!
 Quote
So is Monty still a beta version or has it been
completed already? Can you play the whole game now or still only the
first 2 or 3 levels? End quote

Monte is technically still in Beta testing, but the development is
rapidly drawing to a close. Interested Beta testers can pre-order
Monte
from our web site
 http://www.usagames.us/store.php
and will get a product key good for all the Betas and version 1.0.

Well, since I preordered the game anyway long time ago when it was still
an Alchemy game and never got my money back, I am waiting for my product
key now :-)
Thanks for all the info!

2007-07-19 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Tom,
Just got my new Quat-Core 10GHZ PC and Monty was the first game I
installed. It's really cool, however I'm not sure if I found a bug in
the game. Could it be that when you die and the game continues with a
new life that you are somewhere else in the level than where you died?
That's pretty annoying I think since you have to get used to the new
environment and have no idea of where you are. So is that a bug or did
you program it like that?

Re: [Audyssey] Accessible methods for locating special items in games.

2007-07-19 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Tom,
Well I'd like an object locator sound that is easy to make out even when
you're in the middle of a battle. I also like it when objects can be
destroyed accidentally, for example by shooting them. Also a great idea
would be if an enemy close to you could also try to pick up the object
and use it against you. Imagine there's a blaster infront of you and you
want to pick it up, but the enemy is faster than you, picks it up and
tries to shoot you with this blaster then. I haven't seen that in any
game yet, but I really like this idea.

Subject: [Audyssey] Accessible methods for locating special
 items in games.

 Hi all,
All of us know there are several ways to make an inanimate object
accessible in a game for a blind gamer, but I am wondering
 which way is
best. For example, in Shades of doom when you wish to find a door,
datacard, security chip, etc you can locate the object by
 listening for
a continuous beep. That's fine for Sci-fi games. However,
 assume for a
moment we are in a castle like in Sarah. In Sarah you will hear words
spoken like sweet spoken over and over until you pick it up. There is
also a third way as in Montezuma's Revenge were you are
 presented with
sounds for gems, gold coins, etc and you listen for the
 specific sounds
 to collect the items.
As many of you know I am working on other titles besides Montezuma's
 Revenge.
In Star Wars for example when a enemy drops a hand blaster how would
you like me to identify where that object is. Would you like to hear
the sound of a voice saying hand blaster, hand blaster, hand blaster,
over and over again, or would you like an object locator
 sound similar
to Shades of Doom to find that object.
Recently Trenton has braught up the idea for an accessible
 Tomb Raider
which happened to be one of my favorite game series when I
 was sighted.
If I do eventually do one of those I'll have to be creative in
identifying objects as most of them are inanimate objects like
hyrogliphs, chains and levers to open secret passages,
 swinging ropes,
weapon ammo, med kits, and so on. Basically, some things such
 as ropes
and chains I can put sounds in which would fit with no
 problem. Some of
the other things are questionable. Say you are seaking a
 golden mask or
golden snake. I can't really represent them with sound, but I
 can use a
object locator with a beep to pick them up, or I can use words to
announce golden snake, golden mask, etc
What are your thoughts on this?

[Audyssey] Judgment Day bug???

2006-12-13 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi gamers,
I preordered JgD and spent 50percent of last Tuesday with playing this
cool game! It gives me the satisfaction of shooting things I've always
wanted. No, just kidding, but I really love the game. There are some
other games similar to JgD, but JgD is nuch better than most of them.
The sound effects are great, the game becomes really fast on the higher
levels and you can even use the muse to play the game!!! At first I
thought I wouldn't use the muse to play this game, but using the muse
makes the game even more fun than it already is. However, I think I
discovered a bug in the game. When I beat the game yesterday without any
ships landing on my base, I got the untouchable trofie and I got the
message A bonus game has been unlocked! or something similar to this,
but when I selected the Bonus Games item in the menu, I could only
select Rocket Rage which I was able to play before the other bonus game
was unlocked. So here's my question, is this a bug in the game or is
there anything I still have to do? Also, can anyone maybe give me some
hinds on how to get the seecret weapon? When I launched JgD today, I
heard several beeps in my left and right speakers. What do this beeps
mean?

Hi. If you are interested in alpha testing a text adventure
 game please
 read the following carefully.

 1. This is a text adventure written using the ADRIFT 3.9
 generator. To
play the game you will need the ADRIFT 3.9 runner available from many
 places on the internet.

 2. Alpha means that not all the scenes are written in yet and the
 puzzles may not work.

 3. ** the most important one ** this is an adult interactive fiction
game. This means that the game is adult in nature and should not be
played by underaged people or people who don't agree with
 this type of
 recreation.

 4. This game is far from being finished, and as such the
 final version
may not and probably won't be how it is during the alpha stage.

 5. The game is completely free, no charge is involved, during
 the alpha,
beta, and final testing cycles of the game. Nor will there
 ever be any
charge once the game is fully released.

 6. Please do not ask to test the game on list, do so privately at my
 email address.

That is all for now. I'm currently working on two games, one
 is adult IF
and the other is for all ages. When the for all ages game is
 ready for
 testing I'll post another message.

 Thanks much.

I've decided that writing an indepth tutorial would take way too long

Re: [Audyssey] Blind games web site under attack

2006-09-25 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Brandon and Damien,
First of all, this is a closed topic, so no one should post anything
about the website attack here. But in this case I just have to reply
because the moderators don't seem to say anything about this. First, you
can't say it was Robby!, because you don't have any evidence, you just
suspect someone who couldn't have anything to do with all this. Let's
say someone broke into your house and stole many important things. Then
you tell the police of course and they will try to find out who it was.
If you would tell them it was Mr. X, because he likes to break into
houses and steal things!, they wouldn't do anything except of telling
you what I'm just trying to tell you. You only suspect Mr. X to be the
one who broke into your house, but you don't have any evidence. If the
police finds out that Mr. X who did it, you were right, but as long as
you don't have an evidence, they won't do anything to him, they wouldn't
even find out what Mr. X had done when it happened. Please stop talking
about Robby on the list now, because nothing will happen to him until it
is sure it was he or someone else. I'm sure Phil or his isp are trying
to find out who the attacker was, so there's no reason for you to
suspect someone. I really hope it isn't he and that you'll feel really
bad if it was someone else. Maybe it was you, Brandon??? I'm sure I
could find reasons why you could have done that, allthough it might not
be true. Brandon, I don't suspect you of course, that was just an
example.

  Hi Folks,
Unfortunately I think the creature that crashed the Blind Cool Tech

 have been
downloaded crashing the T1 that they reside on. My ISP is
 looking into

 googling and

doesn't use them. I also haven't determined if there specific

[Audyssey] Ten Pin Alley

2006-09-02 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi gamers!
2 days ago, I ordered the game Ten Pin Alley from Draconis. After some
time, I got an E-Mail telling me that the product has been delivered,
however I didn't get the key. I contacted Draconis on Friday, but didn't
get an answer from them. Do you have an idea what I could do now? I
think it wouldn't help if I'd E-Mail them every day asking them for the
key, that'd would be frustrating for me and also for them. Any ideas?

Re: [Audyssey] I'm getting unsubscribed from the list

2006-08-27 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Tom,
No, that really can't be. All the E-Mails go trough my own Mailserver,
so I'm my own provider :-)
The mailbox can't get full, because:
1. I check my E-Mails very often (50 times per day I'd say)
2. I have 500GB of space on my server and I really don't get so many
E-Mails. So it must be a different reason, because I get all of the
E-Mails that are sent to the list and if a message would bounce I'd get
a message because I'm the postmaster. Sorry for this question, but could
it be that someone of the moderators kicks me off the list for no
reason? I can't imagine that, but could it be possible?
Robin.

Re: [Audyssey] The Final Conflict

2006-07-03 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Thomas!

As for docking I believe it is discussed in the manual. If not
esentually use the autopilot system. It will set your proper
 course and
speed to the selected Starbase, and once it comes in to
 range, it will
dock with the station or ship of choice. (Note, make sure you
 have the
STFC patch installed as the main install version has a
 docking bug which
was fixed by the latest patch.)

OK, I forgot to install the patch! :-)

As far as torpedoes remember you have two types of torpedoes. If you
fire all your quantums, but not your photons you would still have 300
photons in stock. Otherwise I don't know what is happening on
 your end.

Hmmm, but it's like this: when I fire some phortons for example, I still
have 300 left. It's the same with all weapons.

No one else has reported a bug of photons not being subtracted after
 being fired.

Hmmm, maybe everyone is happy about this bug, because you don't have to
restock your ammo... :-)

Although, there is one thing, a feature not a bug, if you
 fire all your
photons and it destroyed the enemy and still have say quantums in the
command list to be fired they will be canciled as there is no target
 left to fire at.

I know, but it's not like this.

Finally, as for purchasing and entering registration keys
 currently the
registration and product activation code is disabled in the
 demo. Main

Why don't you make it possible for other people to purchase FC although
it is a beta? There are no critical bugs and it's such a great game!

reason is this is a beta, a test release, and do to my heavy
 work spent
on Monty I haven't gotten around to finishing up on sTFC, building my
shopping cart, and testing and debugging the product
 activation system.

I don't understand why you don't complete the games one by one. First
finish FC, then start with Monty or USA Raceway - wouldn't that make
more sense?
Best regards,
Robin.

Hello all!
Thank you very much for the great help. Now I'm playing the game very
often and I really like it. Now I just have 2 questions: How can I dock
my spaceship on a starbase? I'd really like to order the game and I'll
do that for sure, but where can I enter my serial number there? Oh, and
a 3rd question: When I attack an enemy, I use all of the weapons. But
when I want to make another attack, I have for example 300 torpedos
again... Is that correct or is it a bug? And here's a suggestion: When I
scan for enemies, I can view the list, but I don't know when I'm at the
bottom of the list, because there's no signal or something else that
lets me know I'm at the bottom of the list. I think it would be very
helpful if there would be a sound when you're at the bottom of the list!
Best regards,
Robin.

2006-06-30 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi gamers!
Today I downloaded Final Conflict and I really like the sounds! Now I
just have a few questions:
1. When I found a ship with the long or short range scan and it has
course 5 for example, I wont to go to this ship of course. But when I go
to helmcourse, I can't select course 5. What can I do in this case?
2. Sometimes it happens that one of my ships is attacked. Then I can
hear how the enemy is shooting, but I'm not able to shoot back. What can
I do then?
