Re: [Audyssey] baseball

2015-07-01 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Ishan,

If you choose hit and run, and hit the ball, the base runner or runners will
advance one or two bases more than usual. They start running sooner. Actually
as the pitcher winds up and pitches. Hopefully the batter will hit the ball.

If you choose steal and hit the ball it will be pretty much like a hit and run.
But if you do not hit the ball the base runner or runners will try to steal a
base.

But any time that you hit the ball the base runners will run.

If a batter is hit by the pitch, he goes to first base. It is just like a hit.
Well a single. So the next batter is up.

Re: [Audyssey] baseball

2015-07-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ishan,

You are over thinking the process. To run a player you do not have to
do anything. If you hit the ball when it is your turn at bat the game
will automatically run the batter to the bases. So in answer to your
question to run all you have to do is hit the ball.

As for your question about substitute batters yes there are
replacements. If one batter is out do to injury or strikes out at the
plate the next person in line moves up to bat. When three batters are
successfully outed that is when the teams switch sides of the field.

Cheers!

the instructions some ware. Do you set it up the same way? Any help would be

Re: [Audyssey] baseball simulator question

2009-09-24 Thread Charles Rivard
This is one of Jim Kitchen's free games, of which there are several. I
don't know how it compares to anything available for the PS2, but it is a
good baseball game. You are not the manager, dictating the offensive or
defensive strategies and then running the plays. You are either the pitcher
or the batter, actually using your timing and other skills to beat the
computerized opponent. Batting takes practice.

Hi Claudio,

I do not think that the log file that is created by my baseball game would
really help you to learn the game. I will put one of Josh's below though.

May I ask, have you read the BaseballRules.txt file that Phil sent to the list
and I put in with the game?

If you have specific questions about my game, I would be happy to answer them.

Hi Josh,

Nice game!

BTW I will either resend you the pup1.mp3 file a bit later, or record and send
you a new one of how the Puppy1 game is coming along. Pretty much have one
level done. Well I don't have the spin and crash sound in yet or you getting
shot down if you do not shoot the enemy down. But your plane is now flying in
a 3d way and your bullets are as well. And all of the collision detection is
in. As is the targeting assist sound. Adding more levels is going to be a
challenge. And all of the stuff to make it a public release will take lots of
time as well. But it is all working out at least as well as I was hoping.

In professional baseball, 1 successful hit out of 3 is considered very good.
So don't feel terrible if you aren't successful 2 out of 3 times.

2008-03-31 Thread jeh
Hi,

Does anyone ever get 100% or a perfect batting record in Jim's baseball
game? I can hit some balls in batting practice, but never all of them.
Sometimes I swing too early or too late.

Well it looks like the Crash man has done it again.

Finding software that accessible to allow the blind to take part in a well

Baseball Fantasy league.
What is so even more wonderful about my find is that we'll have total control

Let me know by replying to this message if you are interested in join a

Hi Jim

In the next version of football could you add the ability to play comment
.wav files after every play, and the option to switch between .wav file
comments and sapi5 comments? then if people had recordings and things they
wanted to play as comments they could just name them like footcomment1.wav
etcetera and put them in the folder, also if there are no comments and you
try to make it play comments it'll just say no comment files exist and just
use sapi5. Then nothing would have to be changed and the original game could
still be on your site.

Hello Jim,
I just wanted to drop you a note and say that I absolutely love the baseball
version 4. It is just so much funner with the fielders diving for balls,
pitcher getting hit with line drives, and the sounds when someone gets hit

can add some to the game. Congrats on a wonderful game.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for letting me know that all of the speech is working properly for
you in my baseball game.

You can change the baseball commercial files baseco1.wav through
baseco13.wav files or just add to them like baseco14.wav baseco15.wav etc
etc. And of course they go in the c:\program files\kitchensinc folder.

Yes, you can change all of the baseball player names. So start up something
like Note Pad Press control + o to open a file and type in one of the below
drive, path and file names. It might even work to just cut and paste in one
of them.

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballbatters.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballreliefpitchers.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballstartingpitchers.txt

After changing the names being careful to maintain the file format just save
the file

Re: [Audyssey] Baseball version 4

2007-09-12 Thread Josh
Hi Jim

In the next version of football could you add the ability to play comment
.wav files after every play, and the option to switch between .wav file
comments and sapi5 comments? then if people had recordings and things they
wanted to play as comments they could just name them like footcomment1.wav
etcetera and put them in the folder, also if there are no comments and you
try to make it play comments it'll just say no comment files exist and just
use sapi5. Then nothing would have to be changed and the original game could
still be on your site.
kind of like commericla in the baseball game but instead comments .wav files
for the football game.

Re: [Audyssey] Baseball version 4

2007-09-12 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Jason,

Thank you for letting me know that all of the speech is working properly for
you in my baseball game.

You can change the baseball commercial files baseco1.wav through baseco13.wav
files or just add to them like baseco14.wav baseco15.wav etc etc. And of
course they go in the c:\program files\kitchensinc folder.

Yes, you can change all of the baseball player names. So start up something
like Note Pad Press control + o to open a file and type in one of the below
drive, path and file names. It might even work to just cut and paste in one of
them.

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballbatters.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballreliefpitchers.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballstartingpitchers.txt

After changing the names being careful to maintain the file format just save
the file

Hi, Jim the game works fine for me. It read the stats to me no problem so
you know.
it reads to me how many home runs the team got how many hits and how many
strikeouts and then it goes to the comercial is that correct?
Where can you add comercials and can you change the names of the batters

Hi Tyler,
You have to give severus snape some credit for what he did in the
Deathly Hallows. If you have not yet read it then you are missing a
vital clue to his true character. He does at times have his redeaming
qualities though they are often clouded to make him look worse than he was.

Re: [Audyssey] baseball

2007-09-10 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Tyler,

To change the names of the baseball players you may use your favorite text file
editor program to edit the following text files.
baseballbatters.txt, baseballreliefpitchers.txt and
baseballstartingpitchers.txt.

So like fire up Note Pad or something like that and open the files

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballbatters.txt

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballreliefpitchers.txt

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballstartingpitchers.txt.

Do be careful to keep the format of the file as is and then after you change it
just save it and you will be good to go.

it'd still be cool if we could have commercials and comments in football and

Hi,
Not necessarily. There are ways a developer can use DirectSound to check
if the file that is loading matches the format specifications stored in
your program. You can check the files size, check to see if it is 225000
KHZ, 16 byt, mono, etc and if you go sticking in a file that doesn't
meet those specifications the program will spit it back at you. That is
a bit draconion for my tastes, but this is apparently what Jim is doing
to insure that some of his games are not altered externally by a third
party.

My comments about the croud noises wasn't about baseball 4 but about

Hi Blind Guy,

Much of the speech in the baseball game is interruptible. Like when it is
listing the number and type of pitches, you can just press the number of the
pitch. Likewise when it is saying press the space bar to step into the
batter's box, just press the space bar. Special key instructions are
interruptible as is the baseball rules file. Don't guess that the plays or
half inning stats are though. But it should not ever hurt to try pressing a
key to see if any speech is interruptible.

Hi Jim,
Yeah, you can't possably support every name imaginable, but you
shouldn't have to. After all this is a baseball game, and only record a
list of fixed player names for each team which in itself is a big
undertaking.
Some of the stuff I think is doable like high quality croud ambience,
good musical versions of take me out to the ball game, etc is very
doable though.
There are a few areas even your baseball game might be improved with a
little work, but I'm not going to make an issue of that.

Hi Jim,

So I take it making the umpire nutral was a good idea to you then? or
sounded like a good idea to you as well? Letting it up to the player's
imagination and making a nutral umpire lets you keep the female umpire if
you like her or get rid of her if you don't. I myself like the female
umpire, but I also like others as well and may want to switch out the sounds
for fun.
again, I hope it wasn't too much trouble for you to do this, and again,
thanks for taking into consideration my idea.

ah. oddly enough, dec talk access32 works good with jaws, so i wasnt
sure, and of course stupid sam is, well, stupid, so if there are any
good free speech synths out there, please let me know because i would
like to use them for jim's stuff.

TRUVoice is pretty good for free, imho it'd be pretty neat for games
like football, etc so i might just use that one.

Hi Blind Guy,
If you are talking about the Dectalk software you are out of luck.
Dectalk is a non Sapi speech synth. Which it's API is so propriatary you
have to pay some major cash to get Phonix to release there SDK and
development notes on it.
I've been looking at trying to figure out how to write a wrapper around
the Dectalk.dll, but it is to much of a hastle at the moment to actually
go ahead and do it.

Actually, I do have the Jaws 8 demo on my laptop to keep my Jaws skills

Not to mention the fact as far as I am aware the end user can drop just

I've done that a number of times with games I didn't like the sounds for.

Re: [Audyssey] Baseball was vb6 programming

2007-09-08 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Yeah I could not possibly pay someone to be the baseball announcer and do all
of the recording that it would take. And there would be all of the player
names which would change all the time etc. It would definitely take a large
professional company to produce such a game.

People have told me already that they are playing with player names from like
Harry Potter etc. That again could not happen with all of the player names
recorded.

Re: [Audyssey] Baseball version 3

2007-09-08 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Tyler,

Yes, you could edit the baseball.rec file to change the name of your team.
However I should tell you that when you install version 3 or 4 it will delete
that file and the saved game file. I had to do that because they are in a
slightly different format for the new version.

Hi Dark

Thank you very much for letting me know that the speech was working for you. I
still have no idea why or even how what I coded worked ok on some computers and
not on others.

That is very cool that you have put player names and team names like that in
the game.

Thanks again and BFN

Hi Jim.
Just to let you know, reading the rules and key instructions worked fine for
me, using good old Microsoft Mike.

I definitely like the new version, particularly the editable player names,
it's rather fun to have Hermione Granger of the Dumbledor's army team up to
bat against belatrix Lestrange for the Death eaters.

Beware You know who! (he's got an incredibly nasty fast ball).

Dark.

Hi Shaun,

I have not found any setting in the sapi5 SDK for giving the voices echo or any
other special effects. Only rate and volume.

If anyone knows of such features I sure would like to hear about it.

Thanks

2007-09-08 Thread Timberwolf
I love using sapi voices, especailly realspeak. sure it sounds a bit fake
but it sounds a heck of a lot better than sapi sam etc and Jim, you did a
great job!

Btw, Thomas, I believe your the director of USA games. Correct me if I'm
wrong, however. But, just curious, how is USA raceway coming along? When it
comes out you can bet that I'll be first to buy it!

thanks

[Audyssey] Baseball version 4

2007-09-08 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi,

I have put baseball version 4 up on my site. It fixes the bug where on some
computers the half inning stats were not being spoken.

The file can be found on my free windows text to speech games page.

file name winbase4.exe file size 4.1 meg
