This is in effect what I've done, if you check the pages for Gg and chillingham on audiogames.net you'll notice that their status has been changed to unknown and there are warnings that people do not attempt to order their games. I sent a mail to bavisoft threatening I'd do this unless they sorted their act out, but as usual got absolutely no reasponse, indeed the last time we heard from them was in august 2009 when yes, they just said don't destribute our games and nothing else. I agree about Bavisoft, since the company is dead then I think that somebody should host the games. Unfortunately Michael that's one of life's great mysteries! Bavisoft have been incredibly uncommunicative for years and it's uncertain whether they've done any developement at all, even converting their current games to run on windows vista and 7, or having the games downloadable instead of relying on this rather out of date Cd system. Even in matters such as lost orders Bavisoft haven't got back to anyone very often. i've tried communicating with them myself on several occasions to ask what they are doing, but have had no response. Grizly gulch has similar gameplay to chillingham with the left right targitng but is much simpler, indeed in some ways too simple. it has a kind of story, and casino games to playand does have an ending, but it's not what I'd call a propper plot, rather a framing story for a set of action sequences and games of chance. On the other hand the voice acting is rather funny in places, and the gun fights are amusing, and can even be challenging on higher difficulties and speeds, so it's up to you. Beware the gRue! Unfortunately Kieth the only legal way to get the game is to order it on Cd from http://www.bavisoft.com/chillingham.htm This is however a problem sinse I've heard of several cases of lost orders, cds going missing etc, and Bavisoft don't respond, so in all honesty I wouldn't recommend trying to order them. however sinse the games aren't officially abandonware anyone posting them up for download elsewhere could potentially get into trouble. I actually really wish Bavisoft would either update their stupid cd ordering system or just declare the games abandonware and throw in the towel. Beware the grue! They work okay if you've already registered the vb libraries, have direct x 8 on your machine etc. Jim kitchin's games do this, however it wouldn't be difficult for Bavisoft to have their games do this on installation too, sinse obviously if someone played their games without trying any other audio games and they didn't work they wouldn't know how to fix them. As to the gg story, yes, it does end, though it's really not as interesting a story as chillingham, and more as I said a framing sequence for the games' action and casino games. Beware the gRue! I agree. They had a good thing going, with their first game. I don't like Chillingham, but if they plan to do a swuel, I'll get it to know what happened. I think it would have been great if they had downloadable versions, and am starting to wonder if the company needs new management. When I last talked with the developer, he said they were still working on a sequel. Unfortuanately, that was years back. Chillingham was too easy for me, and not enough challenges, and I don't like the cheat feature, since you finish the game too fast. People have been trying to convince them to go the download route for years with no success, and that was even wen you could actally get them to respond. ZBt in recent years the only way to get them to respond was to suggest that their games should be made abandonware, and even then the response was simply something along the lines of please do not do this. And you can't even get that now. So I'll be extremely surprised if we ever see Chillingham II and even more so if anyone buys it. It is made freely available for anyone, but the developer will answer no questions about it or work anymore on it. Dan Z's games for instance available on the Usa games site are abandonware in this way, so is the savage gammet. Btw, I'm amazed you actually got to speak to bavisoft at all! last I heard from them was in august of 2009, and that as Bryan said was when someone threatened to post their games up somewhere for free download but all they said was don't do it and answered nobody's questions. Though their games showed promise for the time they were released, audio games are much more developed now, and if they came back it'd probably take a good deal of good publicity from them before they would be trusted. Well I think that instead of telling the players at the end that there was going to be a sequel they should have made it where the story could have been fix to make you think that there was not going to be a sequel. Or do the game like the legend of spyro the new begining where when you beat the game the first part of the story ends, but at the end it could have look like there could be a sequel. Then if they didn't make the second part it wouldn't take away from the story, because it would be like they could make a sequel or not. Hi Michael, Are you kidding? No, they haven't. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to create it either. As far as I am concerned Bavisoft is basically a dead company. Nobody ever ever hears from them except, and only except, when people start talking about sharing their games as abandonware. Then they crawl out from a rock to beg people not to do it. Otherwise they don't respond to e-mails and are not active on the Audyssey list or Audiogames.net forum. Personally, if I were dark I'd just drop them from the Audiogames.net database as they are pretty useless. We have been hearing about a mythical version of Chillingham II since 2004 or so and have heard no audio trailers, no game demos, and no news letters either. So I'll believe it if and when I see it. Dark, Actually, I've tried both GG and Chillingham on Windows 7 and the games won't run. My other audio games run fine when the proper libs are installed, but not Bavisoft's titles. Not that I care about playing them much anyway. Its for reasons like this I'd never buy another Bavisoft title unless A, they fix the problems with their games, B, offer demos, and C, start answering questions when people ask them questions about their products. For the price of their games they could at least update them and fix bugs and problems related to newer operating systems. They do neither. Well they may have as well done. I have noticed from time to time, people uploading the games and they havn't even responded. They have not updated their website since 2004, so unless they renew their copywrites each year they may as well be dead. Not like we havn't tried to go legal, I have seen blatent threads with communication messages asking for a responce on status. Their site went down got infected with malware, but then was put back up in its origional form. Its like they are dead but still want to exist like some sort of ghost. At any rate I don't know why people would bother actually getting the games legally or otherwise. I didn't buy them, but then I played them once or twice on a friend's pc and to be honest technology has moved on. Eventually they probably won't run. I do also wish that they would respond. I wander dark if that responce is an autoresponder. I think I have had just about enough of this. However, this gives me a desperate though probably simple thing. We have tried everything possible. We threaten to upload the games, till we get a responce. We upload them and several people post them. Now they must respond, If they don't then we know they just don't care. If they do, we ask them why. Maybe dump all the messages/ topics, and everything sent over the years since 2005 or whatever including all the missed orders and lost stuff, etc on them and see what happens. We can also I don't know threaten to black list them or something from the forum or something though my plan hasn't got that far. Its an outragious and hoky idea, but whats left. I've tried them on a Windows 7 64-bit machine and when I try to start the Bavisoft games I get a runtime error and they crash. I don't know about others experiences, but the fact of the matter is they've reached the point where they are out of date with little to know hope of them being upgraded by the developer. As for how to handle Bavisoft they haven't done anything that would get them banned from the audio games forum or Audyssey list, but we can warn new gamers not to buy their products based on customer experience. If Bavisoft doesn't like the negative feedback they can either correct their behavior or close their doors. We don't have to advertise their products and recommend them when they clearly have no desire to support their products. I didn't buy them, but then I played them once or twice on a friend's pc and to be honest technology has moved on. Eventually they probably won't run. I do also wish that they would respond. If they quit, fine, we can download their games, we are already doing it and they don't seem to care as a company if you can honestly call them that. Or they come back. I have no real idea what we can do, but if they do come back unless they give proper explanations, I wander if we can just bann them or something, I mean its like they think they can just lose orders and things and not respond. And they don't even respond when you discuss their games as abandonware anymore from what I've heard. So I tend to agree with Thomas. Bavisoft is dead and probably won't be back anytime soon.
