Harry Potter and the Cursed Child audiobook released on RNIB Library

A Harry Potter and the Cursed Child audiobook has been released on the

Royal National Institute of Blind People's Talking Books library, for
those in the
U.K. with sight loss.

Many Harry Potter fans have been hoping for a Cursed Child audiobook

since the script book was released on July 31. While there are no
plans for a wide
release, an audiobook version of the eighth story does exist
exclusively on the RNIB Library.

Braille and large print editions of The Cursed Child are also
available on the RNIB Library.

A rep for J.K. Rowling tells us that the Cursed Child audio edition in
the Talking Books library is "available to their members in specific,
secure formats
and is standard practice for all their publishing in order to make a
book as accessible as possible."

A sample of the audio edition can be found
on RNIB's website.
From listening to it we've learned that this book has one narrator
acting out all of the characters. The script book is read exactly as
it is printed,
with the name of the character being read before each line is said,
and the narrator puts some emotion into each line.

Rowling's rep tells Hypable that outside of the book on RNIB, there

"are no plans currently for the general release of an audio edition of

the script book."

The lack of a wider release for people outside of the sight loss

community may have to do with the fact that the script book only
exists because of the
play. If an audio book were to be released to the masses, it could
affect ticket sales for the play, since an audiobook of a stage show,
if done properly,
would likely have multiple narrators to cover all the voices.

The audiobooks for the original Harry Potter series were narrated by
Stephen Fry in the United Kingdom and Jim Dale in the United States.

Hi Josh,

Misconstrued is the least of it. In many cases the people who say
Harry Potter or Dungeons and dragons are evil have never read the book
or played the game to know firsthand what it is about and only form
their opinion based on the word of mouth. They are frequently
misinformed but have no problems telling you and everyone else how
evil, Satanic, or ungodly this or that is when they don't have
anything like firsthand knowledge of what they are talking about.
Those that do tend to base their opinions on a specific verse in
Deuteronomy that forbids them from practicing witchcraft, astrology,
spiritualism, and a number of other occult subjects. In any case it is
up to the person's own moral and ethical inclinations to play or not
play such things.

Cheers!

2015-04-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

I am in total agreement with you. I can recall plenty of times asking
a number of people just that, did they read such and such a book or
play such and such a game, with the usual response they won't because
it is ungodly, evil, etc. Like you I find myself responding by telling
them they are misinformed and that all they are doing is repeating a
roomer not a fact. They are forming an opinion based on a biase, and
usually someone else's biased opinion at that.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter muds

2013-12-20 Thread Tyler
Hello! I am a person that doesn't usually play MUD'S, so I'm not sure if you'll
get
good advice from me, but there is one MUD, just one, that I like playing. The
server is,
ifmud.port4000.com
If you don't want to create an account right away, you can type guest for the
username, guest for the
password, or connect guest guest would be the command in a command line-based
MUD client. It's mostly
a chatsite and less a MUD, but there is a toyshop you can use things in, there
is a subdimensional
world, if you get beaten up by Mike Tyson in one of the levels, you die, and
you can will yourself back
to life with the life command, or check out heaven and hell. Some scenes are
funny, some dramatic, and some
very one-dimensional. But I like it. Not as much as I used to, because I've
seen most of IFMUD, but for
those with accounts, it's like social networking. And it's a real treat for
people in the text adventure game
scene; that's why it's called IFMUD; Interactive Fiction MUD.

Hi Lenron.

Absolutely, Vipmud would be no use as a program if it couldn't connect to
any mud you wanted. Go to the connect menue item, and enter the mud's
hostname and connection info (most muds have this on their website). You can
also add character name and password but it's best not to do this at the
start.

once you've added a mud this way it'll turn up in the mud list along with
Alteraeon, valhalla etc.

Hi Lenron.

Well my mud experience is rather limited, but other than alteraeon I can say
materiamagica has been going through a major rewrite lately to make a lot of
things both more accessible, and more newbie friendly. I started
investigating this back in about september, but got somewhat destracted,
though I know much more work has gone on.

A mud people are also discussing very much on audiogames.net is one called
epitaff, which is zombie appocalypse themed. AGain, the developers have
included some access features, though i don't know where things are with
that one as I've not tried it thus far.

You know, it's a shame that there isn't a wider variety of muds out there. i
mean, star conquest is the closest I've come to the type of game that I like
but it's not really the type of game that I like. Sc really does force you
into doing group work which I don't always like to do. But I do like space
themed games. Especially open ended persistent ones. As of yet I haven't
really found one that fits the bill. Yet I would have thought that
considering how big you can make a mud, it would be the perfect environment
for such a game?

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter muds

2013-12-20 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi,

I recently started one called Cleft oof dimensions. It is not very different
in gameplay terms from other mud I've played so far, but the thing I like
about it is it's theme. It is based of of old console games, especially old
nintendo titles like Zelda, Final Fantasy, secret of mana or even Super
Mario. You can find references to these games everywhere, you can fight
goombas, coopas and other enemies from these games and even visit Bowser in
higher levels. I even found a question mark block with a mushroom in it when
I was exploring a newbie zone a few days ago! Lol. The player base is fairly
small, but they seem to be nice people and helpfull. The game seems to be
playable very well with screen readers, and people seem to like it when
blind folks come to play there. I'm not the only blind player as far as
other players told me, though I've not met another one yet. The game has
classes and races, the races are inspired from old games as well. I'm
playing a Kirby right now. :D There are quests as well, the thing I like
about them is that you can type quests wherever you are and get a list of
them for the area you are in.
There seems to be some kind of crafting as well, but I've not played so far
yet and don't know what you can do there.

The connection info is:
cod.mudmagic.com, Port 4354

Best regards
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter games

2013-12-20 Thread dark
Have you played Sarah from pcs games? In terms of accessible harry potter
games that is very much first on the list.

Regarding other games, there is a legend of the green dragon mod based
around harry potter called hogwarts live. Gameplay seemed pretty standard
for Logd, fight monsters in the forbidden forest with a wand until your
tough enough to take on lord voldemort, but it had characters from the books
and a couple of extra mechanics like school houses and house points.

I've heard of a couple of forum based rp games, one called hogwarts extreme
for example, but those are basically role play only with little to no
mechanics.

In general myself I still think Sarah is the best theme for a game and
likely the best model for one either, play a game specific character and
explore the hp world, rather than trying to emulate one of the books
completely since the books are as much about the investigation, the mystery
and the character as the magic, monsters and combat.

That's why I tend to think much as with a startrek or Doctor who game you'd
be better with a game set around! the potter universe rather than one with
specific game characters. for example, how about an exploration action game
in which you played an official working for the department for the
regulation and control of magical creatures and were tasked (possibly with
the assistance of Hagrid, grorp, fang, firense and dobby), with wandering
through the forests and mountains around hogwarts castle (and maybe the lake
too), looking for the various creatures such as giants, magically controlled
snakes and dementors which Voldemort used in his army, (perhaps along with
any hiding death eaters), and having to either stun or remove them as a
threat.

That would be the perfect setting for an exploration action game, say either
another fps like Sarah or even a side scroller, and yet would be quite fine
within the hp universe and not require something as ridiculous as having
harry traverse levels of jumps and crazy traps.

Have you played Sarah from pcs games? In terms of accessible harry potter
games that is very much first on the list.

Regarding other games, there is a legend of the green dragon mod based
around harry potter called hogwarts live. Gameplay seemed pretty standard
for Logd, fight monsters in the forbidden forest with a wand until your
tough enough to take on lord voldemort, but it had characters from the
books and a couple of extra mechanics like school houses and house
points.

I've heard of a couple of forum based rp games, one called hogwarts
extreme for example, but those are basically role play only with little to
no mechanics.

In general myself I still think Sarah is the best theme for a game and
likely the best model for one either, play a game specific character and
explore the hp world, rather than trying to emulate one of the books
completely since the books are as much about the investigation, the
mystery and the character as the magic, monsters and combat.

That's why I tend to think much as with a startrek or Doctor who game
you'd be better with a game set around! the potter universe rather than
one with specific game characters. for example, how about an exploration
action game in which you played an official working for the department for
the regulation and control of magical creatures and were tasked (possibly
with the assistance of Hagrid, grorp, fang, firense and dobby), with
wandering through the forests and mountains around hogwarts castle (and
maybe the lake too), looking for the various creatures such as giants,
magically controlled snakes and dementors which Voldemort used in his
army, (perhaps along with any hiding death eaters), and having to either
stun or remove them as a threat.

That would be the perfect setting for an exploration action game, say
either another fps like Sarah or even a side scroller, and yet would be
quite fine within the hp universe and not require something as ridiculous
as having harry traverse levels of jumps and crazy traps.

[Audyssey] Harry Potter muds

So, can anyone recommend a good Harry Potter mud? If so, can you provide the

that wand before and when he killed Voldemort, bury it. I wouldn't want a

have had a real battle. I mean, who defeats a dark wizard with an

Hi Jim.

I always got the idea that it would be rather like having any custom item
made for you, whether it's a sword, a baseball bat, a coat or whatever.

Others can use it relatively well, but because it is individually
taylored

with your own personal weight, balance or build in mind, it is unlikely
to

sute others as well as it sutes you.

indeed, at the end of the 7th book, when voldemort has the unbeatable
wand, it is not the case that it doesn't work at all, sinse we see him
doing lots of magic with it (including killing snape and setting Nevil on
fire), rather it is that the wand doesn't seem to be anything special.

voldemort can use it, but only in the hands of it's true owner, would it
actually be the legendary wand it appears.

As to the killing curse, well in the harry potter universe, it seems that
the more powerful spells such as the patronus chalm require not just
correct words and gestures, but the will and intention of the user.

When Harry attempts the cruciatus curse on belatrix lestrange after she
kills sirius black in Order of the Phenix, it fails to actually cause her
any serious pain sinse as she says, the wielder has to have a real desire
to hurt another person and something of an enjoyment.

harry's rage at his Godfathers' death, while justified, wouldn't actually
be enough for him to perform the curse, sinse he did not have the
sadistic

streak necessary.

thus, I imagine the killing curse works in a very similar way, that the
person performing it has to have a real desire to end the life of
another.

on this basis, it wouldn't be the wand, but the intention of the wizard
using it, rather the way that to kill someone with a sword you
wouldn't need a specifically made sword that was right for you, but you
would need the intention to actually perform the killing thrust with it.

This is I presume why the unforgivable curses are deemed as so bad, not
just because they are dangerous weapons, but because of the kind of mind
that needs to be behind them.

equally this says how serious it is when the ministry authorize auras to
use the curses on suspected criminals.

Of course, all this is very much going off into the misty marshes of
speculation, though hopefully with at least some basis from the books.

skilled though harry was, him defeating voldemort in a magic duel just

I don't know, maybe Dumbledore beat Voldemort because he understood love,

much, because he could have casted a really powerful dark arts spell at the
order members. Voldemort is much more powerful than them.

 Hi Jim.

I always got the idea that it would be rather like having any custom item
made for you, whether it's a sword, a baseball bat, a coat or whatever.

Others can use it relatively well, but because it is individually taylored

with your own personal weight, balance or build in mind, it is unlikely to

sute others as well as it sutes you.

indeed, at the end of the 7th book, when voldemort has the unbeatable
wand, it is not the case that it doesn't work at all, sinse we see him
doing lots of magic with it (including killing snape and setting Nevil on
fire), rather it is that the wand doesn't seem to be anything special.

voldemort can use it, but only in the hands of it's true owner, would it
actually be the legendary wand it appears.

As to the killing curse, well in the harry potter universe, it seems that
the more powerful spells such as the patronus chalm require not just
correct words and gestures, but the will and intention of the user.

When Harry attempts the cruciatus curse on belatrix lestrange after she
kills sirius black in Order of the Phenix, it fails to actually cause her
any serious pain sinse as she says, the wielder has to have a real desire
to hurt another person and something of an enjoyment.

harry's rage at his Godfathers' death, while justified, wouldn't actually
be enough for him to perform the curse, sinse he did not have the sadistic

 streak necessary.

thus, I imagine the killing curse works in a very similar way, that the
person performing it has to have a real desire to end the life of another.

on this basis, it wouldn't be the wand, but the intention of the wizard
using it, rather the way that to kill someone with a sword you
wouldn't need a specifically made sword that was right for you, but you
would need the intention to actually perform the killing thrust with it.

Voldemort became part of Harry, knowing that if Dumbledor wanted to kill
him, he would also have to kill Harry. Voldemort's weakness was that he
thought there was nothing worse than death. Dumbledor knew better, and did
not kill either of them.

Hi,
That's a tricky one, actually; Voldemort would've had quite some trouble
with the complete order plus the aurors. One could say, however, that his
failed attempt to possess Harry distracted him long enough for Dumbledore
to

beat him.

for me Actually Muhammed, i thought the ending was correct.

skilled though harry was, him defeating voldemort in a magic duel just
wouldn't have been believeable, not when even a wizard as skilled as
dumbledor couldn't.

Voldemort actually defeated himself by attacking harry without realizing
the truth about the elda wand, which seems very appropriate really.

Basically, I think of the wand as choosing who will suit it best. It will
perform and, so to speak, form a bond with that person. Sort of like when

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter Trivia 2

2011-05-18 Thread dark

Hi Jim.

I always got the idea that it would be rather like having any custom item
made for you, whether it's a sword, a baseball bat, a coat or whatever.

Others can use it relatively well, but because it is individually taylored
with your own personal weight, balance or build in mind, it is unlikely to
sute others as well as it sutes you.

indeed, at the end of the 7th book, when voldemort has the unbeatable wand,
it is not the case that it doesn't work at all, sinse we see him doing lots
of magic with it (including killing snape and setting Nevil on fire), rather
it is that the wand doesn't seem to be anything special.

voldemort can use it, but only in the hands of it's true owner, would it
actually be the legendary wand it appears.

As to the killing curse, well in the harry potter universe, it seems that
the more powerful spells such as the patronus chalm require not just correct
words and gestures, but the will and intention of the user.

When Harry attempts the cruciatus curse on belatrix lestrange after she
kills sirius black in Order of the Phenix, it fails to actually cause her
any serious pain sinse as she says, the wielder has to have a real desire to
hurt another person and something of an enjoyment.

harry's rage at his Godfathers' death, while justified, wouldn't actually be
enough for him to perform the curse, sinse he did not have the sadistic
streak necessary.

thus, I imagine the killing curse works in a very similar way, that the
person performing it has to have a real desire to end the life of another.

on this basis, it wouldn't be the wand, but the intention of the wizard
using it, rather the way that to kill someone with a sword you wouldn't
need a specifically made sword that was right for you, but you would need
the intention to actually perform the killing thrust with it.

This is I presume why the unforgivable curses are deemed as so bad, not just
because they are dangerous weapons, but because of the kind of mind that
needs to be behind them.

equally this says how serious it is when the ministry authorize auras to use
the curses on suspected criminals.

Of course, all this is very much going off into the misty marshes of
speculation, though hopefully with at least some basis from the books.

Beware the grue!

Hey, all I can tell you all the true answer about who kill Sedrick.
In the book Harry Potter and the goblet of fire, Harry and Sedrick grab
the triwizard cup little did they know it was a port key to another
place and of course it took them to the graveyard.
Voldemort gave wormtail the order to kill sedrick. So when that happen
that is the reason that you see sedrick coming out of the wond. This
can be very confusing to people but if you all remember the dark lord
was still in that dead baby body. I hope this help you all out.

When describing the reverse spell effect, dumbledor does specifically state
that one wand will force the other to reverse the spells it cast, so it
obviously is wand specific.

We know afterall someone else's wand can be used to do magic (though not
perhaps as well as the original owner could), there are several examples in
the series, Riddle's soul in the diary in Chamber of secrets threatened to
kill harry with his own wand, Ron starting school with Charley's wand, Harry
using a wand he got from a death eater in deathly hallows after his own was
broken etc.

so, the reverse spell effect clearly works just on the wand, and in this
case the wand could've been used equally by petigrew.

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter Trivia 2

2011-05-17 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,

The victims who came out of the wand were victims of the wand itself
not the user who used it. The wands in the Harry Potter universe keeps
a record of every spell it cast, or at least the most recent ones and
that is not necessarily specific to any person who used it.

For Instance, earlier in the Goblet of Fire Harry's wand was used to
make the dark mark in the sky, but Harry himself didn't make the mark
himself. When his wand was examined it turned out to be the wand used
to make the mark. So this proves the wand stores its last performed
spells, but has no baring on who used it last.

Cheers!

LOL! and I was reading the part last night, or should I say listening to it, where Dumbledore discussing what happened in the grave yard with Harry and his Godfather. As they discuss the spells in reverse that came out of Voldimort's wand, the first to appear from the wand is Cedric. So, does that mean that Wormtail had Voldimort's wand? I think not. If we go back to the beginning of the novel when Voldimort kills the old care taker, he asks Voldimort to turn and face him. Voldimort does so and kills the old man so sense the appearances of the people Voldimort has killed are listed in reverse, it is clear that it was not Wormtail and in fact Voldimort. I suspect this point will be argued back and fourth for quite some time to come and I'm not sure that J K didn't intend to muddy the waters up a bit.

Hi Jim,

I wanted to verify my facts about Harry Potter trivia 2. In chapter32 Flesh,
Blood, and Bone, It is not specifically named who kills Sedaric. The
implication is that it had to be Worm-Tail. What I went by was J K Rowling's
own words in Chapter37, The Beginning. Dumbledore is addressing the student
body and states that a toast is to be drunk to Sederick Digory. The student
body stands and echoes Sederick Digory. Dumbledore goes on to explain,
Sederick was a person
who exemplified many of the qualities that distinguish Hufflepuf house. Dumbledore continued. He was a good and loyal friend, a hard worker. He valued fair play. His death has effected you whether you knew him well or not. I think that you have the right therefore, to know exactly how it came about. Harry raised his head and stared at Dumbledore. Sederick Digory was murdered by Lord Voldimort. A panic whisper swept the great hall. People were staring at Dumbledore in disbelief. In horror. He looked perfectly calm is he watched them mutter themselves into silence. The ministry of magic, Dumbledore continued, does not wish me to tell you this. It is possible that some of your parents will be horrified that I have done so Either because they will not believe Voldimort has returned or, because they think I should not tell you so young as you are. It is my belief however, that the truth is generally preferable to lies and that any attempt to pretend that Sederick died as the result of an accident or some sort of blunder of his own, is an insult to his memory. For that reason, I went with voldimort killed Sederick as it does not clearly say that it was Worm-Tail but only implied.

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter Trivia 2

2011-05-13 Thread dark

Well I think this one is a litle contentious really.

Myself, I'd assumed killed meant did the deed, rather than gave the order.

While I see the point, to me Dumbledor was really just trying to make the
point about voldemort's return, and yes in truth if voldemort hadn't been
there sedric would've died, but in terms of the facts, I'd class it as
petigrew, certainly if petigrew were on trial for the murder him having
actually done the killing would be the telling fact, not who's orders he
worked on or who's wand he used.

I'd actually suggest Alan take petigrew out of the list of possible choices
for that question if he wants voldemort to be the right answer, sinse it
seems extremely unfair to mark people down for giving an answer which many
would considder correct.

Alternately, he could ask who according to professor dumbledor killed
Sedric which would specifically indicate to those who read the books what
he was refering to, though myself I'd just prefer petigrew removed from that
question choice.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter Trivia 2

2011-05-13 Thread Charles Rivard

This text from Chapter 9 of the book shows the answer, in my opinion:

someone's coming, he said suddenly.

Squinting tensely through the darkness, they watched the figure drawing
nearer, walking steadily toward them between the graves. Harry couldn't
make out a face, but from the way it was walking and holding its arms, he
could tell that it was carrying something. Whoever it was, he was short,
and wearing a hooded cloak pulled up over his head to obscure his face.
And--several paces nearer, the gap between them closing all the time--Harry
saw that the thing in the person's arms looked like a baby . . . or was it
merely a bundle of robes?

Harry lowered his wand slightly and glanced sideways at Cedric. Cedric shot
him a quizzical look. They both turned back to watch the approaching
figure.

It stopped beside a towering marble headstone, only six feet from them. For
a second, Harry and Cedric and the short figure simply looked at one
another.

And then without warning, Harry's scar exploded with pain. It was pain such
as he had never felt in all his life; his wand slipped from his fingers as
he put his hands over his face; his knees buckled; he was on the ground and
he could see nothing at all; his head was about to split open.

From far away, above his head, he heard a high, cold voice say, Kill the

spare.

A swishing noise and a second voice, which screeched the words to the night;
Avada Kedavra!

Now, this shows clearly who gave the command. Voldemort had a high cold
voice. Wormtail, his servant, was carrying him because Voldemort was still
in a very weak condition. Wormtail was the short figure that Harry and
Cedric were seeing, carrying Voldemort. Voldemort told Petigrew to Kill
the spare. Wormtail then screeched the command and performed the curse
that killed Cedric. Based on the text from the book, it is not implied as
to who actually killed Cedric. It is clearly stated.

[Audyssey] Harry Potter Spells game

2009-11-09 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
Here is the announcement of a new game for the iPhone.
As the new iPhone is more accessible I wonder if this game is too.

Harry Potter Spells is a game app that transforms your iPhone or iPod touch
into a magic wand. Once you have received your wand at Ollivanders you are
Sorted into one of the four houses at Hogwarts. From there you will be
taught how to cast spells. Once you feel that you are ready to duel,
challenge others to earn points for your specific house.
You start by learning how to cast all of your spells. Each spell is
represented by a specific gesture with your iPhone or iPod touch. There are
fourteen spells in the game, which is quite a lot to remember. One of the
main features of the app is the ability to duel other people. You can play
it single player as well against Artificial opponents.

The game will be available November 16th, 2009!
It will be available for purchase on the iTunes App Store.
Harry Potter: Spells will work on any iPhone or iPod touch with operating
system version 3.1 and above.
The game was in concept and development for over a year. We wanted to give
the player the ability to cast all of your favorite spells from the Harry
Potter books and films.

How can I learn to cast a spell?
Simply select Learn from the main menu, and you will be guided through the
list of spell lessons for learning the exact hand gestures you will need to
cast a spell. If you are having trouble you can visit the tutorial section
which will give you tips on how to hold the device.
Players have the best success if they perform the motion slowly and
accurately. Placing your thumb on the screen is important as it tells the
device when to start recording your hand motion. Once that hand-motion has
been performed, finish the spell by taking your thumb off the screen.

How do I challenge my friends to a duel?
Both players need to be in the same room and both must have purchased the
game. You can only play Multi-Player via Bluetooth or on the same Wi-Fi
hotspot. It is not possible to duel through the internet. We recommend
players stand within 15 feet of each other.

1. Both players must select Duel from the main menu
2. Both players must then select Multi-Player
3. Both players must choose the same option - Nearby(Bluetooth) or
Online(WiFi)

4. Follow onscreen instructions.

What are the hand gestures for each of the Spells?
Visit the Practice section from the main menu and you will see a Spell
Chart in the background. Note: You can also turn this Spell Chart on while
dueling by selecting Spell Chart from the pause menu.

You can record your voice! Select Learn from the main menu. Once you have
selected a spell, press the Record Voice and follow the onscreen
instructions. You can replace all the pre-recorded spell casting voices in
the game with your own voice.

Harry Potter: Spells was developed by Mikoishi. It was produced by Nathan
Feldman at Warner Bros.

Will this also work on the iPod touch firmware?
As they do run the same firmware.

Re: [Audyssey] Harry Potter Spells game

2009-11-09 Thread Scott Chesworth
I would say I'll eat my hat if this is accessible, but I don't
actually own a hat currently. Headware aside though if we have any
iPhone owners on the list I'd love to know if this works, it's looking
more and more like I might be needing an iPod Touch sooner than later.

Yeah, but I think that's based on forums as well unfortunately. Than

Now I'm not exactly sure what to do after that because there's so much.

Sorry to tell you, but there is nothing better than Hogwarts live. I
found one a few weeks ago, but all it is is PHPBB with interactive HP
features. Boring. Noone has made anything origional yet because half
of these people who make them are either kids, who don't know how to
program and just want something HP-Like, or seniors, who can get the
LOGD core up and running and write new monsters and things etc, it
doesn't actually change the game. If someone made an HP game from
scratch, from the Ground up, I'd play it. But, LOGD is simply the
most boring creation that someone could've created. Okay, at the time
it wasn't, in the 80's, and a BBS when that was all, but now it's
 2008
and people should be making a Harry Potter Mud, not website, but like
I said I want something origional. Take Sryth, Kingdom of Loathing,
and Twilight Heroes. Those were all games written from scratch, and
more games I would like to see more of.

[Audyssey] harry potter question set for freedom millionaire?

2008-02-05 Thread nicol
Can someone please create a question set of harry potter for the freedom
millionaire game?
I've played all the other question sets, and I beat them all. All the
challenge is gone, I almost never loose a game. Almost each time I win the
game on each question set. I'm looking for a new challenge and it would rock
if someone could have the time to create a harry potter question set.

I believe it is legal to create your own question sets with copyrighted
material in them like Harry potter, as long as you don't make money from it.
What happened to the freedom games website, anyway?

Re: [Audyssey] harry potter question set for freedom millionaire?

2008-02-05 Thread Charles Rivard
I don't know what happened to the site, but hopefully, someone else does and
can share the info? Yes, that's a hint to list members, and thanks in
advance for the information. And, if the info is not shared on this list, I
hope you can never beat your accessible games ever! ever! again! (ornery
threatening grin)

I believe it is legal to create your own question sets with copyrighted
material in them like Harry potter, as long as you don't make money from
 it.
What happened to the freedom games website, anyway?

Do you know how to create them? Let me know, and I'll see what I, or
someone else, can do. Also, is it legal to create your own categories?
 Thanks.

Can someone please create a question set of harry potter for the
 freedom
 millionaire game?
I've played all the other question sets, and I beat them all. All the
challenge is gone, I almost never loose a game. Almost each time I win
 the
game on each question set. I'm looking for a new challenge and it would
 rock
if someone could have the time to create a harry potter question set.

 Hi Folks,
I've been wanting to take the wombat test since the first one came out
 and
finally J.K.Rowling has made it accessible on the ,
accessibility enabled version of her web site.
 http://www.jkrowling.com/
 Hints:
 1. You need flash to make it work.
 2. you need to hit enter on the Eraser - question mark
 3. next hit enter on the fly.
 4. The fly turned into a key that opened the door to the Room of
Requirements. Through it is a view of my desk from above. There is a
 wombat test paper on
 it under three paper weights.
a paper weight in the shape of a triangle
a paper weight in the shape of a circle
a paper weight in the shape of a line

You need to hit enter on all three paper weights.

You can now take the test but be quick because you only get 35 minutes
 to
 finish.
 Phil

 Hiya,
I don't particularly like to rain on anyone's parade, but I feel it's a
bit of a bad idea for us to encourage copyright violation and all that
nastyness. That is, unfortunately, what this probably constitutes--though
goodness knows I'm not a lawyer. It's still something I would be careful
about, however--though the odds of someone from J. K. Rowling's publishing
company caring a wit for this are slim. Nevertheless, remember that this
 is
 tenuous ground.
 All the best,
 Zack.

Re: [Audyssey] Harry potter books in text format

2007-04-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,
We are getting way off topic here, and we should close down this thread.
Although, I will say this is very much a huge gray area in the law. In
one way we are allowed accessible materials in accessible format under
Public Law 9-22, but I'm not sure that extends to sharing that same
material with other blinks. I think it has to come from an authorised,
authorised being the key here, distributer of the materials.
In my opinion I don't see much difference if I give my buddy a text file
of the book, and if Bookshare does, but apparently intthe the eyes of
the law there is a world of difference.

 Hi all,
I'm seeing a lot of posts on this list about possible bugs and
 problems
with sarah, as well as questions that can easily be answered by doing
 the following.
Get ahold of the nearest lending library, just a regular town library
 is
fine. Ask them if they're willing to order in the Harry Potter
books on tape for you The ones read by Jim Dale or Stephen Fry are
 both
the full book, you don't miss anything.. Read those books, all 6 of
them if you can. Since the Sarah game is based on the Harry Potter
series, as it says plainly on pcs games, people should probably have
read those books. To give you an example: I just saw a message about a
 dementor.

just in case. If it comes out of a cabinet, it's not actually a
dementor. It's something mentioned in the third book, a bogart. Harry,
and obviously Sarah, have a fear of dementors, allowing the creature
 to
turn into one. Dementors are much harder to get rid of, being the
 real
thing, and the person would've known this had they read the books. So
 please, do so.

I'm not trying to be rude, offend anyone or lay blame or anything. I'm
just pointing out that the game will go so much easier for you if you
get ahold of the harry potter books. I'm sure bookshare has them, or
whatever braille or accessible material library you have in your
 country.

If anyone wishes to comment on my rudeness, lack of respect, stupid
message or whatever, please take it offlist so that I can easily pipe
 it
  into /dev/nul

 Thanks
 Brandon

Re: [Audyssey] Harry potter books in text format

2007-04-09 Thread Zachary Kline
Hiya,
I don't particularly like to rain on anyone's parade, but I feel it's a
bit of a bad idea for us to encourage copyright violation and all that
nastyness. That is, unfortunately, what this probably constitutes--though
goodness knows I'm not a lawyer. It's still something I would be careful
about, however--though the odds of someone from J. K. Rowling's publishing
company caring a wit for this are slim. Nevertheless, remember that this is
tenuous ground.
All the best,
Zack.

 Hi nicol,
Yes I do have a death day party in the dungeon but I do not say who's it
 is.
Since you will probably ask who it is, it can't be Nick or Myrtle or Binns
since they all happened during the school year.
So I will make it the Fat Fryer's party.
Hmm, now did I put him in that level or not?
Anyway I would not recommend Sarah eating that food but it does have a
 good
purpose. An idea I got from what Hermione did to Crab and Goyle so Harry
 and
 Ron could get some hair.

 All right all
I haven't yet purchased the game but I have a feeling all the food in the
roomy dungin will take some magical energy away from sarah, as harry and
his friends didn't enjoy the food in the death party at all. They felt
 ill
and went back after a short while. They didn't took the peanuts peeves
 offered them.

Hi Sky,
I'll have to check my backup drive, but I should have a backup of the
first four books laying around somewhere.
It all depends on if I remembered to back them up before nuking my XP
