[Audyssey] second life

Hi all!
I have found a projekt that is very interesting.
It is a program that will allow you to use second life with jaws.
The program is in it's beta, but you can download the beta already.
The projekt is under the gnu license, so any developer who is interested can 
work at it.

Please note that this software does only work with jaws.

There's an interesting discussion going on concerning making Second Life 
accessible for the blind here:

I don't think it'll ever be possible for us to "Truely" play in SL. We can 
join, login, walk around and chat, but that's pretty much it; we can't do the 
extreme range of activities sighted people have.

cards aren't needed because this client is in text and works like a
mud. That's what I don't get. they're attempting to transform a
graphical interface to a text one. This I honestly don't think will

it's a crap. (from what i understand):
see: you enter on the game, but instead of going to the second life,
available to all, we go in a special part, just designed for who is
blind and using this client... then, you do a tutorial, and do some
things, and. finish.
no where to go, noting apparently to do, just go moving and moving.
but i'm saying, just from what i've looked into that, not sure if this
is true, and the program is still in beta throug and i completely
respect and can give suggestions and ideas to improve it, i'm saying in
a good thing not to offend and say that this is not going to be good and
the program is not worth checking.
and maybe, i'm completely saying what i don't know. i just wish that
they put more explanations and espand the tutorial in the next version,
so we can know what to do.
this is going to be good.

I am in contact with the developers with the virtual guidedog project.  
We will be in contact with Lindon labs soon to hopefully contenue work 
on makeing the client more accessible, I will provide more info when we 
have something ready for testing.

just wondering, what's your part in the development on that project?  
Just wondering, as I don't mind testing it even if it's in alpha or  
pre-alpha.

a, good that you are in the real second life then, but why in the
tutorial wen it ends, it alerts that you can access the page of the
client for more info, then it's just the tutorial actualy that is with
the client.
and, did you know how the things work awreade, like if you can awreade
interact and go on in the game or there actualy is just the tutorial?

see: you enter on the game, but instead of going to the second life,

I'm a tester basically.  It's been decided that once we polish some 
things and get it useable and stable we'll release a beta and I'll email 
the list about it.  I haven't been able to test yet.  The only thing 
done so far has been a script that will get you passed the inaccessible 
login screen.  Acording to the team we are waiting to get to talk to 
lindon labs them selves.  I will skype the developer today and see 
what's happening.

[Audyssey] Second Life accessibility Updates

Hi all,

Yesterday, while attempting to find updates on this project since the  
blind second life blog doesn't seem to be updating anymore with this  
new-found info, I'll say it below.

Luise Later, an SL real life visually impaired (Not totally blind)  
user created both a cane and a guide dog, scripted, mind you, to alert  
us of portals etc when navigating. I don't know what the difference  
between the cane or guide dog are, or weather you need both of them,  
but regardless the items are free.

She also uses a SL screen reader (Well I think it's being made into  
one) called EVA, which speaks objects around you. Don't ask me how  
that works. I just created my SL account from Virtual Ability which,  
BTW, makes the account sign up for second life as accessible as  
filling out a form. An accessible form, that is. Oh, did I mention  
audio captcha?

And since I'm also sending this out to Mac lists, I'll just say this.  
I haven't tried the SL client yet with VoiceOver. Thus, I have yet to  
find out if you can even interact with anything for even just logging  
in. I guess logging into SL is accessible on the windows side. I'll be  
trying this all out tomorrow, asuming I don't have any homework. And  
before I forget, the cane/dog development team does have one totally  
blind developer, so it's not just VI working on the project. Sure,  
it's only one, but at least he's giving feedback to the project for  
totally blind users.

The reason why we can't use it on Mac is just one problem, even if you  
can login with VO. Eva. Eva is for windows only. Without that, we  
can't communicate and hear what's around us.

i downloaded the game and the eva.
but i can't find links for the guide dog and the other, if you can post
it here, i whould like it.
also, wen i try to run the second life, i receive the information that
my videocard driver is outdated or note installed correctly.i'll try to
download the new version...

My understanding is the stock client is totally inaccessible.
There has been talk of textual clients being produced, but..  Certainly
haven't herd anything.

[Audyssey] Second Life and Max guidedog

Hi yes as far as I know of second life is not that accessible for people 
running windows eather. I have no real exspearence trying this out first

inworld, so you have to get the SL client working first.

ok, i downloaded the second life. now there are many extra downloads,
like avatars etc. where i click to download the scripts, or screen
readers that will read this game?

Hi all,

Yesterday, while attempting to find updates on this project since the
blind second life blog doesn't seem to be updating anymore with this
new-found info, I'll say it below.

Luise Later, an SL real life visually impaired (Not totally blind)
user created both a cane and a guide dog, scripted, mind you, to alert
us of portals etc when navigating. I don't know what the difference
between the cane or guide dog are, or weather you need both of them,
but regardless the items are free.

She also uses a SL screen reader (Well I think it's being made into
one) called EVA, which speaks objects around you. Don't ask me how
that works. I just created my SL account from Virtual Ability which,
BTW, makes the account sign up for second life as accessible as
filling out a form. An accessible form, that is. Oh, did I mention
audio captcha?

And since I'm also sending this out to Mac lists, I'll just say this.
I haven't tried the SL client yet with VoiceOver. Thus, I have yet to
find out if you can even interact with anything for even just logging
in. I guess logging into SL is accessible on the windows side. I'll be
trying this all out tomorrow, asuming I don't have any homework. And
before I forget, the cane/dog development team does have one totally
blind developer, so it's not just VI working on the project. Sure,
it's only one, but at least he's giving feedback to the project for
totally blind users.

You'll need to have sighted help to get started.  We're in an early 
stage of beta right now.  The dog has the ability to speak chats and 
that's it.  I'm talking with the author currently.  If you can have 
someone help you get started that would be great.

The screen reader is Eva. From what I gather, the only things you'll  
need are the SL client and Eva. I wish I could get in contact with  
Luise like on Aim, MSN or something but everywhere you look they  
always say to contact her in-world. First I have to figure out how to  
do that.

ok, i have eva and the sl program itself.
but the problem of the videocard still continue... wen i click to
download the driver, it opens another page, and another, and go to the
page of the driver, and i can't download it.

well I actually installed eva and its speech tools and found I need to enter a 
number from within world.
I tried the tools but got a nice error so they are uninstalled, I didn't even 
keep the links.
Sounds like all this is a waste of time.
If you need to get stuff working by going inworld first and inworld aint 
accessible then its no real solution at all.

yea shaun, actualy i think that it's a waste of time.
if you still will need sighted assistance it still is inacessible.
probably wen they fix the problem and make something to read all this

That probably won't happen. If you guys aren't willing to take the  
extra effert, you'll never get past audio games which are actually

yea i have the same problem.
i can't run bekause the problem of videocard, but if the thing to
register is easy and how to get the dog is easy and don't take much
time, i can do that.
i just say the other message, bekause how they say here i thinked that
it'll be a trouble to get the dog. i'll try it on my other computer and
see if it works.
and yes i like these things, i like to try new games that aren't
audiogames to see if i can play with other peoples and if it's
accessible.

Just a cautionary note.  There is no access whatsoever to the log on 
screen, or any other part of the program using a traditional reader such 
as jaws.  I'm currently working with Louis and some other people to try 
to figure out a temperary solution for this.  The guide dog, max, can 
now read text chat which is what eva can do at this time.  I have louis, 
the developer of max, and some others on my skype list.  I'll ask if I 
can give there names to you if you'd like.  Thanks,

I have no experience with eva or the cane.  The guidedog, max, will read 
text chats and will soon be able to speak your current location, and 
hopefully things arround you.  This is still at a very early I'd call it 
alpha stage at the moment, text chat was just put in last night.  Hope

But if you have to do weird things to get it working from inside a non

I suggest you go to www.virtualability.org first and fill out the form 
to create an account.  I suggest you use webvisum with firefox if you 
have it to solve the captcha as the audio captcha is barily

Not sure about the cane.  The dog will allow you to chat, however 
navigating via the arrow keys isn't there yet and there's no sound to 
signify this.  The coder is trying to get funding from lindin lab so he 
can work on this.  THe goal is to eventually create a custom client, 
however, this will take some time.  I'm just trying to give him ideas as 
to how to make the dog more windows like for a blind user.

trouble getting it working within second life.

You can get Max login, and Max Voice Plus from
www.virtualguidedog.org/tools

However, I've not had much luck with that. Instead try:
Radegast Metaverse Client
http://radegastclient.org/wp/

Quite accessible. Supports text to speach, voice command via Windows 7, 
text chat, context menus of objects, and moving around etc. Good luck 
finding good documentation on how to use it. Just have a good look at 
the preferences etc.

[Audyssey] Second life and the Firestorm client.

Hey all,
For those that were around when Radegast was made accessible, the client 
now seems to be dead.  I got a chance to talk with two people who work 
for the Firestorm client for SL, who'd both like to see accessibility 
come to it moreso than what it has already.   If you've got a second, 
could you vote on the issue here?
