well I have had as much trouble with avg.
When I tried to install it on a system a week ago it crashed because it was
majorly out of date.
However I found it almost imposible to download it as the pages were confusing.
Even in ie6, ofcause in ie7 it was worse.

OK guys, we can take this to the new group if necessary. Bit Defender is a
Rumanian one, I've heard it's good, but I don't know if it works with JAWS,
and the site for me was so inaccessible, that I couldn't find where to
download it, the links were images. Kaspersky and Steganos for me didn't
properly work with JAWS either, because I like playing around with settings,
and I couldn't access those properly, I like AVG and f-secure. MCAFEE also I
think is accessible, and I never tried Norton.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-02 Thread Yohandy
I suggest you install virus protection for your mac anyway though. The
reason there are not viruses for mac is because virus writers haven't yet
bothered with it. Once they start writing them lots of people without
antivirus protection are gonna be very unhappy. lol. I'm sure once upon a
time viruses for Windows didn't exist either.

lol! Actually that wasn't quite my point.I love AVG on
the Windows side, but as I no longer use Windows, I also no longer
need virus protection… -And I believe someone asked sarcastically if
there was something better than AVG? So I felt I needed to be glib!

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-02 Thread ari
Trouble, that's an absolutely ridiculous question and assumption about
viruses and countries. First, some of the best antivirus products like
Kaspersky are Russian, and second, you'd be excluding the whole world, the
UK has Sophos, the USA has Norton, and, yes, viruses do also originate from
those countries as well, remember Malissa?

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-02 Thread Trouble
you can stand up for it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that
deals on the web daily.
yes, I tried it and it kept trying to heal one file. I put it in the
vault and it still wanted to heal the file. i got a copy of symantic
and the virus was found the win95 space virus. That virus came out in
96 and by 2000 was considered a third class threat. Your AVG never
even seen the virus that was over 8 years old and still won't.
If a file keeps on getting healed over and over then its doing
nothing. if it picks system files as viruses then its no good,
because it can't tell system files from a real virus.
One question? Why do people trust software made from countries that
have made the news about them making viruses? And if your virus
protection can't find a virus that has ben out over five years, is it
really protecting you or does the bloated phoney news hipe do it for you.

Hello,

Is there a big difference from the paid version of AVG from the free version? I
have the free one, and never have any problems with games. I think it's a great
program. Please let me know if the paid version is better though. lol
Thanks,
Ryan

For some reason, when I want to play Bopit, I have to disable f-secure, if I

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-02 Thread Robin Kipp
Hi Shaun,
Well, I use AVG Internet Security and it's great. The firewall is
perfect, also because it doesn't block really everything at first but
lets you decide which programs should connect to the internet and which
ones shouldn't. The only thing I tourned off was the daily test because
that slowed down my laptop to much. Also, I've never had any problems
with games, the only games I had to allow in the firewall were SoundRTS
and AudioQuake which is absolutely perfect because they connect to the
internet. As for key generators, I'm disappointed to see you're actually
using them. They're just crap and it's much better to purchase the
programs you like. Also, by purchasing software you support the
developer and allow them to continue writing good software...

Hi.

Yeah, I used to use AVG myself, and never had any problems installing
*anything* when using it. I use NOD32 now though, haven't had any trouble
with that either.

Name me any other virus programs that are better than this one, and I'll
give you twenty bucks. Nod32, perhaps, but nothing else. Don't mention
nortin, mcafee, etc, cause heh, they're crap compared with AVG. System
resources are basically gone with them. Anyway, all virus programs have to
have problems with games - I'm guessing AVG is amung the least likely, -
this is the first I've heard about it and first I've seen of it happening
with this particular program. Oh btw about the healing thing, move it to the
vault, why would you heal it if it was harmful to begin with, also there's
the "ignore" button which helps, not sure about your problem, though, Josh,
I'll download judgement day demo and see if I'm having problems with it and
AVG tomorrow after goalball. Speaking of that, I need to get to bed, right
now I guess I'll only have 6 hours sleep, sigh.

AVG rocks, don't you ever forget that. You want to know something? I
downloaded and had nortin on this pc, and when nortin found none, AVG found
some. I tried almost every virus scanning program before buying AVG. I hate
mcafee. I will never use it. I feel sorry for anyone who does. SOrry for
getting off topic here, I just love AVG and hate seeing it get put down like

2008-02-01 Thread shaun everiss
tHERE IS SOME THINGS i DON'T LIKE WITH AVG.
iTS SHELL, SCANNERS AND THE REST OF ITS SCANNERS DO NOT MATCH.
IE IF i SCAN SOMETHING WITH THE SHIELD ON AND ITS DETECTED AS A VIRUS, THE MAIN
SCANNER WILL DETECT IT BUT THE SHELL SCANNER WILL NOT EVEN IF i SCAN THE FILE.
mORE OVER EVERY FILE WITH 2 EXTENTIONS IE .BAT.TIF, .TXT.BAT, ETC WILL DETECT
AS A VIRUS.
gRANTED SOME OF THIS IS NEEDED.
BUT IF A FILE FROM LINUX CONVERT IS .LNX.TXT OR .TXT.LNX THEN IT AINT A VIRUS
IS IT.
aND OK IF A FILE SAYS .JPG.EXE THEN OK, UNLESS OFCAUSE YOU LAGITIMATELY MADE IT
THAT WAY.
i FOUND THE SHIELD A REAL PROBLEM WHEN USING LINUX.
i HAD TO CONVERT UNIX TEXT AND WINDOWS TEXT QUITE FREQUENTLY.
wHAT i'D DO WOULD TO NAME MY LINUX FILE AS THE NAME OF THE SYSTEM IE UNX UNIX
LNX LINUX, DOS ETC.
aT THE END i'D NAME THE FILES AS SUCH FILE.LNX.TXT
CONVERTED FILE FILENAME.DOS.TXT
aND THEN AFTER THAT i'D RENAME THE FILES FILENAME.LNX AND FILENAME .TXT ONCE
CONVERTED AND i HAD ENOUGH WITH THAT.
i'D GET THINGS LIKE AVG HAS FOUND CLICKER 5S TROGEN OR AVG HAS FOUND GENERIC
VIRUS32WIN.
sOMETIMES ITS NOT THE FAULT OF AVG, AS IN NVDA SOME VERSIONS OF PY2EXE ARE
KNOWN TO GENERATE VIRUS LIKE ALERTS BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ARE WRITEN.
hOWEVER i'VE ALWAYS DISABLED EVERYTHING IN AVG EXCEPT FOR THE UPDATERS, AND
VVOLT AND SHELL AS WELL AS EMAIL.
i LEAVE SHIELDS OFF BECAUSE THEY DON'T SEEM TO LIKE SOME THINGS.
ON A SIDE NOTE, AV SOFTWARE WILL DETECT KEYGENS, ETC AS VIRUSES.
aVG IN GENERAL HAS ISSUES BUT YOU CAN AVOID THEM, IT JUST INVOLVES YOU BEING ON
YOUR TOES.
oH AND SPEAKING TO PEOPLE ABOUT THE VIRUSES AVG DETECTS FINDS THEY DON'T EVEN
EXIST.
tRUE, AVG HAS FOUND SOME VIRUSES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS, AND KILLED THEM.
hOWEVER IT SOMETIMES PUTS GAME INSTALLS AS VIRUSES.
i'D STILL USE AVG, BUT AVOID THE SHIELD AND SCHEDULAR.
iF YOU MUST USE SHIELDS, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IT IS DOING
aLSO i NEVER LIKED AVG PRO MUCH.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-01 Thread Trouble
Well if it wasn't crap to start with then it wouldn't have issues
with anything installed. does it still heal the same files over and
over and over? When you don't even have a virus? I could see it
having issues with downloaded stuff from the web like music or stuff,
but these games aren't made with viruses if they want to keep selling them.

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-01 Thread Dark
H, I didn't know all this about the engine, I just installed Avg a few
months ago sinse my old copy of Mcaffi from university was almost six months
old with no updates. Sinse then it works fine, though I am finding the
daily morning scan cuts into my morning work and E-mailery a bit, I'll
see if I could do a weakly scan instead, I scan any file I download before
installing or playing it, so this isn't quite as bad as it sounds.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-02-01 Thread Dark
that's odd, my avg has never objected to judgement day, admittedly
though I am running the full version of the game.

the only accessible games which avg has had issues with have been both
titles from Klango. I sent them an E-mail about this, and they said they'd
contact Avg to try and fix the problem but I haven't heard anything sinse
then.

I'd actually like to know if any progress has been made, sinse I had to
uninstall both Klango games and haven't yet reinstalled them.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-01-31 Thread shaun everiss
no, but aparently if you load an older version of avg say 7.5.428 its not
supported to update from that version anymore.
avg crashed and corrupted itself.
Getting the new version is no piece of cake either.
I finally got it, but you need the latest engine of avg to actually have t it
work.

[Audyssey] accessible games and avg antivirus

2008-01-31 Thread josh
Hi,

Do any of you have issues with AVG being corrupted because of installing
accessible games? My AVG doesn't like the judgement day demo.
