Hmmm, I think that would detract from the strategic decision about how much
to specialize your work force, since the only downside to doing so other
than the cost is the loss in flexibility.

[Audyssey] castaways suggestion for disposing of useless people

Hi list.
Just a thought, I am in the middle of playing castaways mission 4, and I 
had an idea for population control.
at the moment, we have the ability to destroy buildings, and I think it 
would be cool if we could kill off parts of our population in the same way.
for example, I am at the stage with stocking the ship, and I only have a 
handful of peasants, but I have a lot of useless upgraded people of 
various types.
so rather than wasting time building more houses, it would be good if I 
could dispose of these useless people for the greater good of the 
population.
that way I could get new peasants etc without having to feed the useless 
architects etc.

Rofl, that's an interesting idea.  I wonder what everyone else thinks about an 
option to kill off your own people.  I definitely understand the reason for 
wanting it though, haha.

Hi Tom.

this has actually been a discussion with jeremy on the audiogames.net forum, 
about giving pregnant women and young children temporary assistant jobs that 
increaswe the productivity of others, eg, a net maker to increase the 
productivity of a fisherman (mending nets was something often done by the 
fisherman's family in many communities), or a harvester, to help with 
specifically harvesting crops like corn.


I'm not sure where this idea is in relation to the developement log of the 
game, but i do hope it makes it in.

Knights are blocked from being pregnant I think, sinse once a knight 
someone's job status can't change, even to being a mother (though they can 
get injured).


personally, i just tend to assign jobs as regards what I need atthe time, 
but like Darren make certain my cook is male and thus won't get pregnant, 
sinse any other job can be quickly reassigned from somewhere else without 
trouble, but if the cook's oout of it people will begin starving very 
quickly!

says something like, Jane is filling as a mother.  When she is done, she will

[Audyssey] CASTAWAYS SUGGESTION.

hello;
a quick suggestion for castaways.

For those of us who have high quality, or other non Microsoft SAPI voices,
might I suggest you build SAPI support into the game, meaning, in the game,
you can set the voice you can use, apart from the default provided by
Windows.
I'm using windows 7 64bit, and even with other non microsoft voices
installed, the tts portion of the control panel never sees them.
Other applications like vipmud, JAWS, etc. see them, but windows itself?
Nope, not happening.
Unless I'm doing something wrong?

Since I only have 1 voice myself, I can't really test my own code if I tried to 
include options for changing those settings.  I'm new at sapi voices, and I 
wouldn't even know where to begin, in finding more.

well to be honest I have been using nvda with espeak.
Its low quality but it does the job.

Since I only have 1 voice myself, I can't really test my own code if 
I tried to include options for changing those settings.  I'm new at 
sapi voices, and I wouldn't even know where to begin, in finding more.

Hi Jeremy. You can download the microsoft voices called Mike and mary
from microsoft. Also espeak has some decent though tinny-sounding
voices which does the job.

A hop to your favourite search engine will have to do as I don't have
any links. Of corse there are also many high quality voices you can
buy.

I also know the espeak voices are accessible from the windows 64 bit
control panel.
