Re: [Audyssey] question for Jim Kitchen - Re: New here; saying hello
Hi Charles, Yeah, waver is just a simple little wave file player program. You could put a copy of it in any folder with wave files. One thing that I like about the program is that you can pick and play a series of wave files. The function keys are F1. say special keys F2. search F3. search next F4. spell file name F5. go to replay F6. go to play F7. test play F8. play all (with specified name or part of name) F9. play random files F12. change voice control key. change rate of speech escape key. go to exit HTH And the reader program is just a simple text file reader that uses sapi5 speech. Hi Hayden and Thomas, Thanks, I might look into some of the VB6 and Windows Media stuff, but not a priority for me. As I said to Charles, Windows Media Player does a pretty nice job for lots of the sound file formats. Re: [Audyssey] question for jim kitchen
Hi Liam, That's for sure. The licensing is the one issue I haven't figured out yet. As much as I like FMOD it has a pretty heavy licensing fee for commercial games. Especially for games $30 and up which requires a royalty license. Those are very expensive, but that kind of fee is a one time fee, but if I go with a shareware license I have to sell my games for like $10 to $15 but only get charged $100 for the license. Personally, that is a bit of a raw deal for us. What we will likely end up doing before final release is switch the engine over to Streamway which also has a lot of nice features, as you know yourself, and Philip doesn't charge that much for the license either. So do to the cost of licensing FMOD, like it or not, I'm probably going to have to settle for a cheaper alternative before 1.0 goes on sale. Re: [Audyssey] question for jim kitchen
Hi Hayden, Hmmm...I don't know about that, but there are several possabilities as far as creating a VB 6 program that plays mp3s. One way is to use the Windows DirectShow com library which has all kinds of video and audio codecs support for multimedia. Another would be to use FMOD Ex, which also has com support, and use it to play mp3s, ogg, wav, and just about anything else you can think of. I think Windows media Player's libraries are also com components so you could in theory write a simple VB 6 wrapper around that if you needed to. Like I said there are lots of possabilities here. I love Windows com support for tht reason. Just grab the library or component and run with it. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Question for Jim about Simon
Hi Ari, Thank you very much. I'm glad that you enjoy my Simon game. You know for memory, you could also play my game of concentration. I hate to say this, but the things that you asked for are totally contrary to the object of the game of Simon. - Original Message - Hi Jim I enjoy your Simon, but I would please like to know if you could do these suggestions if it can be done without too much trouble. 1. Can you make it so that a person can start from the round from where you failed, or that you can set from which number of objects to remember to begin? Example, if I fail on round 10, can I start again from round 10? 2. Some people prefer to play memory to see how much they can remember without a time limit, rather trying to concentrate on remembering as much as they can without the pressure of time. Could there be an option to turn time limits on and off? Thanks Ari Jim A picture is worth a thousand words, but it uses up three thousand times the memory. Hi Jeremy, Sorry is similar to Headache and Parcheesi isn't it? I played all of those games as a kid and would very much like to make computer versions. Clue would be another board game that I would like on the computer, but I haven't been able to figure out a good way to review the board for any of those games. It's kind of like chess. I don't play computer chess. I like to be able to put my hands on a board so that I can get a good picture of the board.
