Re: [Audyssey] right windows key, application key, or what?

2006-12-21 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Heck, you don't need a special key to lock up your windows computer
smile. Windows will happily do that on its own. Although, I do have to
give Windows 2000 credit. In my opinion, it has been the most stable OS
to date. In many ways, even more so than XP.

Trouble is a lot of apps are starting to only work with XP and on, so
this unfortunately forces users to upgrade.

I also feel that we should start steering back to gaming topics smile.

All the best.

 Hi Dark,
I don't know of any official list of them, but here are a couple more I
use to add to the list I already gave. Windows-f brings up the Windows
find dialog, and Windows-h brings up the Windows help system. Oh yeah,
and Windows-b will drop you right on the system tray no matter where you
 are.
The Windows key shortcuts are super invaluable when you learn them you
wonder how you did without. Why got to start and run when Windows-r from
anywhere will take you there. Why go tot the start menu to run find when
Windows-f from anywhere will open the dialog to run the find. If you
want to land square on your taskbar no matter where you are Windows-tab
and you are instantly taken there.
BTW. I might add I amd doing this using Windows XP SP2. If you are using
something else besides XP you will have to check and see if your Windows
version supports those keys. I know some of them have been around since
 95/98, and some are newer.

HiDamien and all,
Just wanted to point out a few more things on this. I did a search on
Microsoft.com and found the following information:

The following link has commands relative to 95, 98, and ME but work for XP
also:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449/

I found this nifty keyboard command along with others. check it out.

SHIFT+Windows Logo+M: Undo minimize all

For keyboard commands for XP only check out

http://www.microsoft.com/enable/products/KeyboardSearch_XP.aspx

I found the answer for my query. It is:

Lock your computer if you are connected to a network domain, or switch users
if you are not connected to a network domain.

Hello Cara. That is interesting. I have never heard the context menu
 key
be called the right windows-key. Although it would make sense in the
case of it not being usually on the right, but also because it
 simulates
the right-mouse-click. How about you and I start a new campaign. We
 call
the left windows the start button key since that is essencially what it
does, and the right windows key the context-menu key since that is what
 it brings up?

 What do you say?

Nah, you are a busy person, LOL.

 Thanks in any case.

As far as the right windows key, I certainly don't want to cause
 any
confusion, but most people I know, call that key the right windows
 key,
rather than the applications key, and the other, the left windows key,
 so
effectively, some keyboards would have two left windows keys on them.

smile Am certainly not saying that you're wrong, and it may be a
matter of people simply using an incorrect name for a key, no biggie.
 The
only place I've ever heard that key called an applications key is in
context of a screen reader, so perhaps that's correct.

Anyway, thanks for the note and have an awesome day!...

Re: [Audyssey] right windows key, application key, or what?

2006-12-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Raul and all,
The key in question is most often called the context key and often is
the application key. By no means is it a right windows key as my
keyboard has two Window keys a left one and a right one.
As for calling the Windows key a start menu key that again wouldn't be
practical as the key has many more functions than just the start menu.
Some examples is Windows-d to go to the desktop, Windows-r for the run
dialog, Windows-m to minimize all Windows, Windows-Tab for the taskbar,
Windows-E for Windows Explorer, and many more I can't even begin to list.
Bottomline the context key or application key if you want to call it
that is not a Windows key.
Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] right windows key, application key, or what?

2006-12-19 Thread Dark
Oh yeah, I use that key so litle I'd forgotten it was there and got it
confused with the properties/aplication key which I use all the time.

My brain obviously just isn't working this morning. Much appologies.

On my keyboard, there is a Windows key to the left of the left alt key,
 and
a Windows key to the right of the right alt key. There is an application
menu key to the right of the right Windows key. The key that is the
farthest to the left of the main keyboard and farthest to the right of the
main keyboard are the control keys.

Just for shear confusion, I've always called that the properties key,
 sinse
the person who told me about it used that name, - and anyway,
 bringing
up properties is often what it does!

Hello Cara. That is interesting. I have never heard the context menu key
be called the right windows-key. Although it would make sense in the
case of it not being usually on the right, but also because it simulates
the right-mouse-click. How about you and I start a new campaign. We call
the left windows the start button key since that is essencially what it
does, and the right windows key the context-menu key since that is what
 it brings up?

 What do you say?

Nah, you are a busy person, LOL.

 Thanks in any case.

I believe that method should work regardless of whether extensions
 are
showing, but thanks for the note. smile

As far as the right windows key, I certainly don't want to cause any
confusion, but most people I know, call that key the right windows key,
rather than the applications key, and the other, the left windows key,
 so
effectively, some keyboards would have two left windows keys on them.

smile Am certainly not saying that you're wrong, and it may be a
matter of people simply using an incorrect name for a key, no biggie.
 The
only place I've ever heard that key called an applications key is in
context of a screen reader, so perhaps that's correct.

Anyway, thanks for the note and have an awesome day!...

 Smiles,

Re: [Audyssey] right windows key, application key, or what?

2006-12-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
I don't know of any official list of them, but here are a couple more I
use to add to the list I already gave.
