Hi Terrence, Thomas gave us the below link. He gave it to us for trying to replace the sapi 5.3 with sapi 5.1, but I am sure that it would work to install the voices and engine for you. you can download (SpeechSDK51MSM.exe). which contains all of the Microsoft Sapi voices available for Windows XP from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e86ec97-40a7-453f-b0ee-6583171b4530displaylang=en HTH BFN Jim No analgesic is not pronounced anal. Hello all, I'm using Windows XP Pro, and for just about any game that uses SAPI, I get an error message of some sort about SAPI not working. What can I do to fix this? Re: [Audyssey] Sapi Issues
Hi Terrence, The first thing that I would try would be the DelUserLex.exe file that you can find on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page, as well as on the GW Micro and Freedom Scientific sites. It is a strange file in that it doesn't say or seem to do anything, but it did fix my sapi5 voices. Here is another fix that I was told about. Not sure if it is actually just doing the same thing or not. Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should correct the control panel entries for Sapi. Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working. And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5 text to speech engine. HTH BFN Jim Check my web site for my free blind accessible pc dos and windows games. Re: [Audyssey] Sapi Issues
Hmm...I tried the deluserlex program with no success, and I don't seem to have that sapisvr program. When I got this computer it already had SAPI issues, and I think the first time it got a restore point made for it was when I bought the license for it after finding out it wasn't genuine. Hi. I have some SAPI5 issues on my computer because some of the SAPI5 voices wouldn't uninstall when I tried to uninstall them properly, so I deleted their folders. I tried using the DelUserLex.exe app on Jim Kitchen's website but that now seems to have prevented the use of all SAPI5 voices installed on my system. What should I do to fix this? Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] Sapi issues
Simon, you have a sapi conflict I think. If you have any versions of sapi other than 5.1 installed, uninstall them. You may also have to uninstall any third party voices, install the games, then re install the voices. Unfortunately at this point, I do not have a firm handle on what exactly is causing the problem, but on the handful of systems it affects, it is maddening. The cleanest thing to do is to remove all sapi versions, uninstall all third party voices and then install sapi 5.1 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5E86EC97-40A7-453F-B0EE-6583171B4530displaylang=en look for: speechsdk51msm.exe Then the download button right beneath that Please let me know if this works for you, I'm trying to study as many cases of this problem as I can to determine what does and doesn't work to fix it. Re: [Audyssey] Sapi issues
I don't know if it will help because I'm not having problems, but when debug is turned on and a bug is encountered in a program, Microsoft tells you of the bug, stops the program and lets you either fix it or just sto the program. It will often (maybe always) not work through the bug itself. I found when I turned debug off that I sailed marily past bugs in programs that had nothing to do with me or my operation without even being aware they were there. It's worth a try.
