[Audyssey] Wrecking Ball v2 about to be released, feedback sought

2013-11-23 Thread Ken Downey
I'm about to release Wrecking Ball v2. I've squashed a lot of bugs in this
version, introduced a new laser gun bonus that allows you to destroy entire
columns at a time, as well as a jynx that shrinks the length of the table. I've
increased the default table length for the game, so that the ball doesn't come
back at you so fast when you hit it, but if you shrink the table too many times
you're going to have a tough game to play. I've also shrunk the default paddle
size.
Do to the laser bonus, the use of the mouse has become essential. The
alternative would be hitting the arrow keys, holding them down for who knows
how long, then trying to shoot out the columns, and that seems tedious, but if
you have ideas I'm open to implementing them.
So what I'm wondering is, what kinds of features do you want to see? Note: This
is and probably will always be a single player game, as I'm not going to waste
my time learning any new VB6 code. If I learn any new code it'll be for VB.net.
However, I would like any ideas about extra levels, bonuses, jynxes, and so on.
I remember that in some Breakout games, there was a mode where the walls would
move closer and closer together, and I may do something similar.
So if you guys have additional ideas, I'd like to hear them, especially if you
used to be sighted and loved playing Pinball, Pong, Breakout etc. This goofy
game has been under development since 2005, and all I can say is that I'm glad
I never charged for it. It's finally very close to complete though, thank
goodness!

Nice to hear you are updating this audio classic. One thing, gamepad
support. Analogs can handle everything very well i believe.

2013-11-23 Thread Charles Rivard
This is just my opinion, and is given before trying out the new update: Not
sure if I like the laser gun idea. It isn't a part of a pinball game. As
it is right now, Wrecking Ball has the feel of a pinball game, which I like,
and I think this would be a detraction.

Re: [Audyssey] Wrecking Ball v2 about to be released, feedback sought

2013-11-23 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi Ken,

I tried the first version of the game only once and that was quite a while
ago, so I don't know if the things I want to suggest here maybe already are
in the game. So please bare with me if I say things here that are no longer
needed.

I remember from the sighted version of wrecking ball a block, which gave you
a sticky padle. The ball would stick on it and you could shot it wherever
you wanted. Another block gave you a padle with double length, so it was
easier to hit the ball back. Also there were some kind of boss levels with
one big monster thingy, but I really don't remember how exactly they worked.

Best regards
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] wrecking Ball and air hockey

2011-05-22 Thread The Addictor
First, as I said, none of my games are abandonWare. Second, I posted links
a week or so ago for both games. They are way better than the ones you'll
find in the forum because they are new updates, both at beta 0.2. Now that
I'm relatively done with Phrase Madness, I can do a little more with them.
As far as game play, you just move your mouse around to hit the ball or
puck, and you can also use the keyboard, like in Enemy Attack. The shift
keys act like flippers, and the control keys can send your ball from side to
side. In Air Hockey they don't do anything but the letters and numbers do.
HTH, and sorry for not being more in depth, but I have a few more irritating
bugs to squash.

They are, however, freeware, as are Enemy attack and Heli.

[Audyssey] Wrecking ball question

2011-03-09 Thread Ken the Crazy
Ok, I'm working on Wrecking Ball, and I want the Super Breakout mode to be more
like the original. So far, I've made it so that only the horizontal mouse
movements are tracked. This means you're not trying to push the ball forward
as in air hockey. It also means that the closer you are to the side edges of
the table, the faster the ball goes on the Y axis but it doesn't go fast on the
X axis. The middle of the table is different--it gets a great horizontal boost
but only a little vertical one. I think that's how the paddle would be in the
original game, true? Any other particulars of the game you can remember would
be helpful as well, since I mean to make the Breakout mode as exact as possible.

I'll fix the launch bug as soon as I can. As far as levels go, I'm thinking
about just ending at level 10, or I could maybe make it to where the walls
start closing in on you and you have to break all the balls before you get
smashed--but I really want to get on with the new game I'm going to make, so
unless there isn't more feedback I won't mess with this one too much more

 1. after the first launch if using the mouse, you can't launch the ball

 2. the game seems to be able to pass level10 with no problem its

I would like a sound description menu and the option to adjust music or turn
it totally off.

As for bugs, either there is a bug, or I haven't mastered mouse operation.
The ball cannot be launched using the mouse after the first ball. Also, at
times, the ball is rolling around out in the middle, and cannot be hit with
a flipper or with a mouse click.

Well I just took a listened to the trailer and it sounds like the game is
going to be fun. Maybe for the lower rows of blocks that are playing you
can use a kick drum and for the lowest rows you can use a bass drum panning

I'm pleased to announce that I've just posted a trailer for Wrecking

demo in many ways. The recording abilities I have presently aren't
too good, but you'll get the general idea. The big difference is in
coding--it's a much less bulky game now that the layers aren't done
individually. The differences you will hear however are significant.
First, as the levels progress, the blocks become harder to break and
must be hit multiple times before they do. The breaking sound has
been modified and might be too long now. The higher the level, the
more hits it takes to break the blocks, so on level five you'll hear
a tremendous amount of bonks. The drum patterns of the bonks as the
ball bounces can be quite intriguing. Some bonks are just too bassy
and I'm going to change them somehow, but the over-all effect I like.
I'm also going to take out a layer of bonks, the highest level which
isn't on this trailer cuz I got my butt kicked, and replace it with
pinball machine bells. I think that would rock. Anyway, enjoy the
 trailer. It's on ftp.tbrn.net/modgirl
under Ken's games. It's the wrecking ball trailer.MP3 file.
I can't find the link, but I know it's there!
Thanks, Kara, for hosting my files. I'm still looking for my own
free web hosting but this definitely works for me. When ya want me
out of yur hair just let me know...

Many of you have played Wrecking Ball. Now that I have graduated
 massage
school I have more time to write games and am again in development.
 What
would you like to see improved in this game? Please play it before you
 respond, the link is at
 http://modgirl.tbrn.net
as Kara is graciously hosting it for me for the time being.
The game, as it stands, will include
Ten levels, and you have to hit each block the same number of times as
 is
the level to break it--so if you're on level five you have to hit the
 ball
 five times to break it.
With each level, the block size will decrease, making them harder to
 hit.
Bonuses: there is already a bonus that makes the blocks grow, but this
area will be expanded a bit.
The speed bonus area may be shrunk somewhat as it's not too hard to hit.
Another bonus will be that the ball stops, and you get a gun with six
shots, and moving horizontally you can position your gun to blow up all
the blocks in a straight line in any direction, the gun being at the
 bottom of the screen.
The sounds will be turned down slightly so SAPI speech can be heard more
 clearly.
The walls will move in toward each other in the higher levels, so you'll
have to be quick to smash those blocks.
I don't have a release date for the game yet, but I'd like to see it
 done
before Christmas of this year--no promises though. The more features I
put into this game, the longer the code will take to write, and I still
have to implement a registration system.
The price of this game will be 20 bucks.
Anyway, feedback is highly appreciated.Ken Downey

  bottom of the screen.
The sounds will be turned down slightly so SAPI speech can be heard more
  clearly.
The walls will move in toward each other in the higher levels, so you'll
have to be quick to smash those blocks.
I don't have a release date for the game yet, but I'd like to see it done
before Christmas of this year--no promises though. The more features I
put into this game, the longer the code will take to write, and I still
have to implement a registration system.
The price of this game will be 20 bucks.

It's great Ken. I'd like to see you add levels to it. Also a hot key for
our scores would be appreciated. I really enjoy this title.

The game, as it stands, will include
Ten levels, and you have to hit each block the same number of times as is
the level to break it--so if you're on level five you have to hit the ball
five times to break it.
With each level, the block size will decrease, making them harder to hit.

Re: [Audyssey] wrecking ball

2006-12-24 Thread Ken the Crazy
Make sure the sounds folder resides in the game folder. As per the manual,
I'm not sure why it didn't get zipped up with everything else--I will have
to make a new version--with iunno this time.
