Yes, rushing to judgement before you know how UT is handling the situation. That is my point, not that they are innocent, not that they don't deserve punishment, they do. But we should wait to praise or criticize once we see how it is handled.

When Ronnie Wilson fired an assault weapon in the air, there were many saying he should be kicked off immediately. When Brandon Spikes was gently wiping the dirt off of that Dawgs face, many were calling for his dismissal. Let it play out and then see if criticism is warranted.

Rushing to judgement ?!?!

The one guy was failed two drug tests, they are out robbing people - at gun point - at 2AM while wearing Tenn football player clothing, caught with drugs, the gun, the hooded sweatshirts, and positively identified.

That is rushing to judgement ?!?!

I don't think we should be throwing stones at UT over this. They have suspended the players for this game, so let's not rush to judgement as to the final penalty.

I hate Kiffy as much as the next Gator, but this is about 4 young adults who have made a terrible mistake and might have thrown their lives away. Armed robbery in most states is a very serious offense, usually requiring mandatory jail time, can't imagine Tennessee is too lenient.

As Gators, we have had our share of criminal behaviour over the last few years, and for the most part we have given kids a second or even third chance. It is up to them what they do with these chances and unfortunately most of them have squandered the opportunity to reform (Moss, Hornsby, Wilson, Atkins). All of these guys were suspended from the team - and for the most part we didn't know how long or why they were suspended - and it was up to them to work their way back into the good graces of the coaches.

I will wait to see how UT ultimately deals with these 4 students before rushing to judgement.

Yet... Urban was attacked for only suspending Spikes for half a game.

I havent heard much criticism from the talkin heads toward Kiffin taking his time.

But hasn't Tenn had enough time and enough facts to distance themselves from these three robbers (and/or accomplice)?

Haven't they had enough time and facts to get them out of their dorms and issue a public statement that they are no longer with the team?

Seems like the longer Tenn lets this drag out - the more negative publicity they receive

Seems like the way to quickly turn a negative into a positive is to just throw all 3 off the team - then you go from being Thug U to a model of how things should be run.

Funny how early in the season Tenn had no problem with kidsleaving the team. Wasn't it like 12 kids either left or were kicked off the team?

Now Tenn is hanging onto these three robbers (or at least accomplice)?

Re: [gatortalk] Alabammy

2009-11-15 Thread Cecilia
One of my first thoughts as I was waking up this morning was:

Gators 29, Miss St 19
Bama 31, Miss St 3 They scored more and won with a wider
margin.

I had to get up and look up the scores with our common opponents:

Gators 23, Vols 13Higher score for us, wider margin
Bama 12, Vols 10

Gators 41, UK 7Higher score for us, wider margin
Bama 38, UK 20

Gators 13, LSU 3 Not as much offense for us but a
wider margin (so more defense?)
Bama 24, LSU 15

Gators 23, Arky 20Hmmm...
Bama 35, Arky 7

Gators 24, USCar 14Higher score for us, narrower margin
Bama 20, USCar 6

Did gathering of this information make me feel better about meeting Bama in
Atlanta in December? No, not really.

2009-11-15 Thread Ken Kirkley
One of the things to keep in mind is that we went through a stretch of games
where we uncharacteristically turned the ball over again and again.

Playing Keith's patented woulda shoulda game...

Eliminate two pick sixes from the Miss St game and the score is 29 - 6
Eliminate a fumble against UT and it is 31-6
Eliminate 3 first half fumbles against Arkansas and we win going away

My point is the team was playing tight - they are less so now, the play
calling was predictable - it is getting slightly better. We have stopped
shooting ourselves in the foot and have two games and an off week to get
ready for Bama. Bama is good, but not unbeatable. Ingrahm is good, but was
held to 70 yards last night until a late 4thQ 77 yard TD run. We beat Bama
last year without Percy and will do so again this year.

I wonder how those stats would look if they were compiled versus common
opponents, teams we have both played.

Looking at big play production on offense, it would appear that Alabama
did better tonight versus Mississippi State than we did against them. Or
maybe I am justed spooked by my fears of Julio Jones and Mark Ingraham
running through our secondary.

Did you see the graphic, UF vs Ala?
We score more, get more total yards and give up less yards and points than
them. Yet, they have the more complete team?
I know, we've got to get past FIU and the semis first. Heh heh heh.
So, anyway, about Alabama...

RE: [gatortalk] Alabammy

2009-11-15 Thread Ken Kirkley
They moved the ball on two drives in the first half when they scored their
TDs, other than that, not so much.

On 12 drives they averaged 3.6 yards per play. Take out the 2 scoring
drives and the averaged 1.5 yards per play on the remaining 10 drives.

In the second half, the average 1 yard per play. I'm not sure Bama can take
too much from that, except to hope that we miss numerous tackles like we
did. Also, I think Garcia is a much better QB than McElroy.

One additional thought, we blitzed more last night than I have ever seen, it
was fun to watch. On their two scoring drives we brought the corner blitz
several times and Garcia checked down to the open man each time. I don't
think we ran that blitz in the 2nd half at all.

Now, on to Florida International. I'm really worried about this game...

One other point: I haven't seen any stats, but it seemed that Spurrier's
offense was effective at moving the ball against us at times (when Garcia
wasn't being crushed by our blitzers).

I hope this doesn't give Alabama any clues as to how to scheme against us. I
hope we can come up with some defensive looks that Alabama will not have
seen from us.

That could explain some, I suppose, but teams look at all game tape, not
just how we beat an opponent.

I just wish people would stop talking about the Gators being 19 - 0, now 20
- 0. This team is 10 - 0. Those other wins belong to the 2008 team.

I want our guys to play loose, and have fun, not like they are trying to
preserve or maintain something, or be perfect, or play up to the
expectations of others.

A few weeks ago, although I certainly didn't want us to lose a game, I was
thinking that dropping one might actually be liberating for the team, and
give them some motivation (as did the loss to 'Ole Miss last year). It could
also have helped with the fans' expectations, and we might not have been so
critical after close wins.

Anyway, it's way too late for that now. We have three games in front of us,
and if we win out, we are the SEC Champions and are playing for the National
Championship.

Some of the big ones... Tennessee, LSU and Miss St... dont forget we played
first... so we could have easily exposed to Bama how to handle them.
