[gatortalk] Weather today
I sure hope that the cold weather does not affect us as much as it does Alabama. I would think that the cold would make it harder to catch the ball. This is a particular worry given the poor receiver's practice on Wednesday. Ironically, the forecast for Atlanta is not much different than it is for Pittsburgh. Go Gators! Jerry P.S. Yes, it's still great to be a Florida Gator! The Tide was better tonight just as the Gators were in Atlanta last year--#2 beat #1. The INT would not have happened if they let TT run it a couple times from the 5. The loss is bad enough but we also were expected to listen to the CBS crew 'cheering' and bragging about Alabama during the whole game. That is what I understand. We are in the same position Alabama was last year...playing in a bowl game against a team we are expected to beat (in this case, Cincy). Beat the Bearcats! This is what a lot of us were worried about all year and why we didn't think it was good enough to just squeak out wins in our other games. This is the same offense we've seen all year, but we finally found a team our defense couldn't handle and we really needed an explosive offense to offset that. We wanted to see domination on offense against the mediocre teams because we knew that eventually we would be in a game like this where the offense would have to carry the defense. They didn't and we lost. Alabama was simply the better team tonight in every aspect of the game. They have my congratulations and I hope they dominate Texas just as thoroughly. Four MNC's in a row for the SEC would be awesome. The news outlets all say that Cincy will play in the Sugar, so I think they'll be our opponent. It's an interesting story line that Urban will be coaching against his alma mater. I think we'd better take them very seriously, because they're a good team and we could easily do like Alabama did last year if our kids don't get their heads on straight. 13-1 would NOT be a failed season!!! I'm in agreement about needing a new OC, but not just because of tonight. It's our defense that performed below expectations tonight; our offense was what it was all year. In fact, I would say we were outcoached in every aspect of the game. If I had to complain about any coach over the season, it would be our receivers coach, Gonzales. How can our receivers go game after game dropping balls that Tebow puts right in their hands? They've been doing that all year. We're losing a lot of talent at the end of the season, but I am very optimistic about next year. If we get a good DC, and if the D performs reasonably well, then we'll do okay. I think we'll see a more productive offense than we saw this year. We could easily be in the hunt for championships next year if a few things fall into place for us. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the anticipation of this team's last game in the Sugar Bowl. I'll be sorry to see Timmy go, but I'm also excited for him for all the new adventures he has ahead. Wow... what I saw in the game tonight was the nightmarish compilation of EVERYTHING that has been wrong with our offense PLUS missing C.Dunlap. Credit to Saban for coming out passing with our best pass rusher nowhere near the Georgia Dome. But, the difference in the game IMHO was that we didn't have a single reliable receiver. Aaron H. and Riley C. -- our ONLY reliable receivers -- both DROPPED catchable balls (AND Cooper apparently forgot to check the down marker and caught a crucial pass a yard short of the marker. It was painful to watch Demps, Hernandez, Cooper, Nelson, et al, drop passes all night long. Tebow catches the grief for the incompletions, (and he made some bad throws) but the weight of this loss rests on the shoulders of the entire team. I had a really bad feeling about this game -- particularly given the reports about the awful practices by our receivers this week. Still, that didn't mitigate how awful I felt watching the game. I was proud of Timmy, seeing him stay on the field to do interviews, and etc., even though he was understandably upset. Texas should have lost tonight. I will be pulling for 'Bama in the BCSCG.
