So I am already seeing questions comparing the Reggie Bush situaiton to
this... and thankfully Pat Forde is responding to them to answer... but the
biggest difference is.. Florida reported it as soon as they were informed
about it. USC-west didnt. It wasnt until years later until the NCAA pushed
that USC-west finally pulled up the rug and decided to clean up their act.

Florida and the NCAA are investigating an allegation that former Gators
offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 from a representative
of a sports agent before last season ended, ESPN.com reported Monday.

The allegation stated Pouncey received the money between Florida's loss to
Alabama in the Southeastern Conference title game and its Sugar Bowl win
over Cincinnati, according to the report. The alleged representative was not
 named.

We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to
law enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC, Florida
athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement. At this time, we have
no information that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for
 the University of Florida.

Pouncey was selected 18th overall in this year's NFL draft. His brother,
Mike, will be a senior offensive lineman with the Gators next season.

Pouncey's agent is Joel Segal, but the allegation is not necessarily tied
to him. A message left at Segal's office Monday seeking comment was not
 immediately returned.

If the allegation is true, Pouncey could be ruled ineligible for the Sugar
Bowl game and Florida might have to vacate the victory among other potential
 penalties.

The investigation also is the latest involving sports agent-related
 inquiries in college football.

North Carolina announced last week that the NCAA is investigating its
football program. South Carolina athletic director Eric Hyman said the NCAA
is investigating a possible rules violation of one of its athletic programs.

I am actually more worred about his backup - Trent Richardson. Richardson was suppose to be like Tebow and Harvin - incredibly talented.

Not that Ingram is bad ... but Richardson is suppose to be like superman

To have that tandem - Ingram and Richardson - is incredible.

I think they are much better than our RBs. Ingrahm and Richardson are backs with speed and power and can play every down.

We have some backs with speed but no power (Demps, Rainey), Moody who has power (but rarely is healthy enough to play), etc. Gillislee is starting to be speed and power - but appears to be undersized. Mack Brown (true incoming freshman) is suppose to be speed and power - but has a lot of questions surrounding him.

The best combination we have might be the WR Omarius Hines.

SEC Top 25: No. 1 Mark Ingram

Alabama running back Mark Ingram. (The AP)

No. 1 Mark Ingram
Alabama junior running back
Why he's No. 1: He was the best player in college football last season, becoming the first Alabama player to win the Heisman (and only the second sophomore in history to win the award). His skill set is pretty much unmatched among running backs in the SEC (and nation). He's big, strong, fast and elusive. Last season, 1,075 of his yards came after contact.
Key number: Ingram rushed for an SEC-high 1,658 yards and 20 touchdowns and averaged 6.1 yards a carry last season. He also caught 32 passes for 334 yards. Here's perhaps the most significant number of all: Ingram averaged 156.8 yards rushing against six top 25 teams in 2009. He was his best against the best.
Fun fact: Not only is Ingram one of the most exciting players in college football, he's also one of the most reliable. He touched the ball 303 times last season and lost only one fumble. For a guy who runs as hard (and fast) as he does, it's a remarkable stat.

Florida and the NCAA are investigating an allegation that former Gators
offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 from a representative
of a
sports agent before last season ended, ESPN.com reported Monday.
The allegation stated Pouncey received the money between Florida's loss to
Alabama in the Southeastern Conference title game and its Sugar Bowl win
over
Cincinnati, according to the report. The alleged representative was not
named.
We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to
law
enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC, Florida athletic
director Jeremy Foley said in a statement. At this time, we have no
information
that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for the University
of
Florida.
Pouncey was selected 18th overall in this year's NFL draft. His brother,
Mike,
will be a senior offensive lineman with the Gators next season.
Pouncey's agent is Joel Segal, but the allegation is not necessarily tied
to
him. A message left at Segal's office Monday seeking comment was not
immediately
returned.
If the allegation is true, Pouncey could be ruled ineligible for the Sugar
Bowl
game and Florida might have to vacate the victory among other potential
penalties.
The investigation also is the latest involving sports agent-related
inquiries in
college football.
North Carolina announced last week that the NCAA is investigating its
football
program. South Carolina athletic director Eric Hyman said the NCAA is
investigating a possible rules violation of one of its athletic programs.

Each Sugar Bowl victory remains precious to me.

Gifts from family members are allowed.

My problem with this whole situation, if true, is the selfishness of the
act. He could have taken the $100k as soon as the game was over, no
problem. But by taking it, if he did, before the game he basically thumbed
his nose at his teammates and made all of their preparation and sacrifice
for naught.

From the bits I have read, it sounds like this money was not from the agent
he signed with and this agent is now 'leaking; the information out. I am
hoping that it went down something like the agent sends a unsolicited check
for $100k, Maurkice gets it, doesn't cash it and signs with another agent.
He thinks he has done nothing wrong since he never actually took the money
and didn't sign with the agent.

In any case, while some are trying to make this look bad for Florida,
overall it is an NCAA problem and unscrupulous agents. It does seem like
the NCAA is really trying hard to enforce it this year, so maybe something
good will come from it. Trying to compare this situation to Reggie Bush is
laughable. USCw never self reported and denied any wrong-doing, even when
agents and runners were allowed at practices. Jeremy has handled this like
he has all other issues, with class and integrity.

Yes, that was me.

It was terrific. Over two days we had six different types of ribs. Dry, wet,
spicy, not so spicy. We also had some excellent brisket and pulled pork, but
we made a decision early on the first day to focus on ribs. It was really a
lot of fun.

I had purchased a Fast Pass, which enabled us to bypass very long lines at
each pit. Basically, for $125, you get credit for $100 worth of BBQ, plus
you get to go on Fast Pass only lines, which were much shorter.

Since we were using our credit for ourselves and our friends, we had no
problem using up the $100 credit over two days.

We're looking forward to doing it again next year. It was definitely
worthwhile. Maybe next year we can get a Gator contingent.

It wasn't just Meyer. Everyone on the team was under more pressure after we
won it all in 2008. They were all tight, all year. Now the pressure to win
it all is off and on Alabama. Let's see how they handle the pressure. I
predict they'll lose 2 or even 3 games this year.

The Gators, of course, will win it all.

right... well how much did UF pay to have this swept under the rug... or
I guess UF is immune to any sanctions blah blah etc etc...

fact is... they had physical evidence and detailed proof of what happened
with Bush... as of right now.. that same evidence doesnt exist with
Pouncey.. and to be honest.. I think he's the one that has a kid... and if
so I can understand why he would need it.. but ya know... the kid is too
smart to make this kind of bumble (i think)... but I could be biased too. I
dont see the Pounceys as having the stars (and dollar signs) in their eyes

The Associated Press

Published: Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:36 p.m.
Last Modified: Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:36 p.m.

Florida and the NCAA are investigating an allegation that former Gators
offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 from a representative
of a sports agent before last season ended, ESPN.com http://espn.com/
reported Monday.

Pouncey's agent is Joel Segal, but the allegation is not necessarily tied to
him.

South Carolina athletic director Eric Hyman said the NCAA
is investigating a possible rules violation of one of its athletic programs.

right... well how much did UF pay to have this swept under the rug... or
I guess UF is immune to any sanctions blah blah etc etc...

fact is... they had physical evidence and detailed proof of what happened
with Bush... as of right now.. that same evidence doesnt exist with
Pouncey.. and to be honest.. I think he's the one that has a kid... and if
so I can understand why he would need it.. but ya know... the kid is too
smart to make this kind of bumble (i think)... but I could be biased too. I
dont see the Pounceys as having the stars (and dollar signs) in their eyes
like Reggie Bush did/does.

Report: Florida, NCAA probe violation allegation

The Associated Press

Published: Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:36 p.m.
Last Modified: Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:36 p.m.

Florida and the NCAA are investigating an allegation that former Gators
offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 from a representative
of a sports agent before last season ended, ESPN.com http://espn.com/
reported Monday.

Pouncey's agent is Joel Segal, but the allegation is not necessarily tied to
him.

Jevon Kearse took money and we didn't have to vacate any victories. This is

Sorry for the delay in my response. I actually had to do some work this
afternoon.

You're thinking of Martin's. They specialize in Whole Hog. One of my
friends got that, and I tried just a bite. My friend liked it a lot, and I
also thought it had an excellent taste.

As I mentioned, my wife and I tried to save our room for ribs, so we didn't
get to try much of the other offerings. We'll definitely give it the full
treatment next year though. I really enjoy tasting the different types of
BBQ, and speculating on whether the different tastes reflect regional
differences or just that specific pit master. It's the kind of research I
would like to do more of.

If you give it a try, would you please let us know what you think?

Thanks Oliver.

It's not a requirement that you automatically vacate wins, just that is a
punishment option. In this case, unless it is proven we should have known

possibility.

I am not buying Demps, Rainey, or Sturgis.

Demps goes down with arm tackles

Rainey is in a position (slot) that he could rack up some huge numbers this year.

Then again, so can Brantley - who is arguably one of the top 3 QBs in the SEC - so why is Brantley not on this list?

Sturgis is too inconsistent.

Surprise Deonte thompson, carl Moore, and Debose are not listed.

Gillislee is not listed? I would list him as a RB before Demps.

what about a DLman? Ronald Powell? Or I guess everyone is high on Jaye Howard and Justin Trattou. I like the big man Omar Hunter

Sorry for the delay in my response. I actually had to do some work this

You’re thinking of Martin’s. They specialize in Whole Hog. One of my friends
got that, and I tried just a bite. My friend liked it a lot, and I also
thought
it had an excellent taste.

As I mentioned, my wife and I tried to save our room for ribs, so we didn’t get
to try much of the other offerings. We’ll definitely give it the full
treatment
next year though. I really enjoy tasting the different types of BBQ, and
speculating on whether the different tastes reflect regional differences or
just
that specific pit master. It’s the kind of research I would like to do more of.

If you give it a try, would you please let us know what you think?

Yes, that was me.

It was terrific. Over two days we had six different types of ribs. Dry, wet,
spicy, not so spicy. We also had some excellent brisket and pulled pork, but we
made a decision early on the first day to focus on ribs. It was really a lot of
fun.

I had purchased a Fast Pass, which enabled us to bypass very long lines at
each pit. Basically, for $125, you get credit for $100 worth of BBQ, plus you
get to go on Fast Pass only lines, which were much shorter.

Since we were using our credit for ourselves and our friends, we had no problem
using up the $100 credit over two days.

We're looking forward to doing it again next year. It was definitely
worthwhile.
Maybe next year we can get a Gator contingent.

It's not a requirement that you automatically vacate wins, just that is a
punishment option. In this case, unless it is proven we should have known
or did know, I wouldn't expect us to have to vacate the win. But it is a
possibility.

If it wasn't it would be a very unenforceable rule, everyone would say, well
we didn't know.

Incorrect. Regardless of whether we knew about it or not, if he was
ineligible and played we can have the victory vacated.

Remember, that was SOWs defense against the cheating scandal - we didn't
know they cheated so why should poor Bobby have to vacate wins

Even if Pouncey did take money from the agent, it would have to be proven
that UF knew about this and that they let him play anyway before the game
would be vacated.

Jevon Kearse took money and we didn't have to vacate any victories. This is
a long way from anything like that.

Arkansas and LSU had four each, Kentucky and Mississippi State had

Nice to see someone else who understands and remembers the brilliance
that was Maynard G. (G stood for Walter, if memory serves) :)

Unfortunately, most people don't get the reference when I say WORK?!
like he did :)

Oh yeah, WPS, Go Gators, etc., etc. :)

Oh, I remember Dobie and the gang quite well. I never understood, however,
how everything in their town was in black white, instead of in color like
it was in mine. Seemed pretty drab. :)
