[gatortalk] Tuesday Morning QB
As I have thought about the game some more, the following have come to mind: 1. The last minute suspensions and injuries on the offensive line may have had an even worse impact that first believed-especially from the tackle and tight end blocking perspective. The offensive line that played was simply not ready to play as a team. I believe that one of the problems with the running game was that the offensive line was not doing their job very well. I think it is true that Rainey and Demps seemed to be easily stopped on several plays. Part of that problem might have been that they were often hit in the backfield before they were really moving forward very well. Another problem that seemed to be originating with the offensive line is that Brantley had little time to throw before someone was on him from the end rush. This lead to him throwing the short passes rather than intermediate or long passes. I think that still another problem with Pouncey was that he was not comfortable with the patchwork offensive line so he had to think about what he might have to do to compensate-thus losing his concentration on the snap. Likewise, I think the porous offensive line caused Brantley to worry about the pass rush causing him to lose his concentration. 2. Although it is not without some risk, Brantley needs to pull the ball sometimes from the running backs and run himself. Often he would fake keeping it and run in the opposite direction of the play. Almost always, he was completely unchecked. This left their defense free to shoot linebackers to the play. 3. I was really disappointed with our kickoff game. We have to get the ball kicked higher and deeper. Our kicker is supposed to have a cannon for a leg but you could not tell it Saturday. The ball needs to at least go to the goal line, if not a few yards in the end zone. 4. I am sure that there were several persons that stayed home because of the heat. I was really excited to be there but the heat was oppressive. There were several in my area that left after or during the first half of the game and did not return. I of course stayed to the bitter end. I think that the AA should provide free ice during games like these and I think that the water fountains should provide chilled water. I also think that the AA should provide misting fans so that people could go cool off. I am expecting that we will improve dramatically next week. The good news is that we have a relatively light schedule leading into the Alabama game. There is time to correct most of the problems. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us

Re: [gatortalk] Tuesday Morning QB
probably merit to your points but the offense seems very reminiscent of last year's dink dunk with virtually zero downfield game. That's 1 full year plus 1 game with the same coordinator and there is just no excitement to it. SEC schedule could be a cobra/mongoose struggle - should be suspenseful! On Sep 6, 2010, at 5:06 PM, Keith Baldwin wrote: This is the same old problem with Demps. Demps goes down with arm tackles. Against weak opponents, when our OL blows open huge holes - Demps, Rainey, Gillislee and just about anyone else - takes it for a TD. Whereas Gillislee breaks tackles - and picks up more yards per carry. We get the best of both worlds with Gillislee. Isn't this the Barry Sanders vs. Emmitt argument? Emmitt was far more consistent; broke tackles; gained yards. Barry had more rushes for a loss than just about any RB in the history of the NFL. But, when Barry broke free - it was goodbye. Barry's averages were probably better, but his standard of deviation was all over the map. I feel the same way about Demps. 1 yard carry, 1 yard carry, 3 yard loss, BOOM - 70 yard TD. Great photos of the game, Woody. I really liked the band video!! I ask this every year, but, are there any words to Men of Old Florida March? What a snappy tune! It should have lyrics if it doesn't. Gillislee has also shown this potential, like in the GA game last year. The only thing that stopped him from a long TD run was a hamstring injury. Obviously that puts a different spin on the situation. If Robey can't go, we may have serious issues at center. It was hinted at in late August. He said has taken snaps from Robey in practice the past two years and added that Florida has not had any issues with snap handling during the pre-season. Then Robey bursts the bursa in his right elbow, and we see this article: UF offensive line coming together By Robbie Andreu Gainesville SUN Staff writer Published: Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2:06 p.m. Last Modified: Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2:06 p.m. With Florida's top two left offensive tackles out of the opener with injuries, there was speculation earlier in the week that a reshuffled line would see standout center Mike Pouncey moving to tackle. But Pouncey is staying put. I take from this exchange that Robey would have started last Saturday but for his elbow injury, and find it strange that his injury status has never been disclosed. Instead, the press releases have steered the rationale for Pouncey back at Center by focusing on the benefit of putting Wilson on the field as opposed to the possibility that we may not really have a choice right now. -Zeb -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us

[gatortalk] Bye bye Heisman...
Non-Gator news...so posting it here: Report: Bush to be stripped of Heisman Fox Sports Updated Sep 7, 2010 12:25 PM ET Former Southern Cal running back Reggie Bush will be stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy, according to an online report. [image: coolest mascots] http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/lists/coolest-mascots-photo-gallery COOLEST MASCOTShttp://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/lists/coolest-mascots-photo-galleryLooking for the best mascots in college footballhttp://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/lists/coolest-mascots-photo-gallery? Look no further! Bush would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to be penalized in that fashion. The NCAA found major violations in the USC football program in June, resulting in sanctions. Two sources close to the Heisman Trophy Trust told Yahoo Sports their investigation is coming to a close and will concur this month with the NCAA’s ruling that Bush was ineligible in 2005. Sources said the honor for that season will remain vacant. Texas quarterback Vince Young finished second in the voting, but Bush had a huge advantage (784 to 79) in first-place votes. Bush reportedly met with Heisman representatives last month, though details of that meeting are unknown. In July, the school administration announced USC would return its copy of Bush’s Heisman to the trust. The status of USC’s 2004 Bowl Championship Series title remains to be determined. BCS officials are awaiting the NCAA’s ruling on the Trojans’ appeal of the NCAA sanctions. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us

As I wrote the words I knew someone would mention Harvin. And, there are others who would possibly qualify. Emmitt Smith easily comes to mind. But, there's something about the national champion in the 200 meters playing football. You know, if he ever gets loose, he's gone. He's proven that a couple of times too. Besides, Harvin is gone. Zounds! We had a perfect score in the very first week. Peter Sones went 12-0. Doing that in Week 1, with all the big point spreads, is amazing. One little thing we (cough) need to mention. And since the Gators failed to cover the spread, we all know what that is. Peter achieved perfection in the time-dishonored way of picking AGAINST the Gators. Oh, the shame. The humiliation. Sold his very soul to the Redhawk Devil for the minuscule reward of Pick 'Em fame. ;-) It's worth noting that second place, 11-1, went to John McInnes, and John is awarded honorary first place by virtue of going WITH the Gators!! WOO-HOO!! John bravely chose to do the right thing and pick UF. You, my friend, are the man. Six peeps finished third at 10-2. They did give out free small cups of ice at the concession stand--and sold $1 bottles of water until they ran out. On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 10:38 AM, Jerry Belloit bell...@clarion.edu wrote: As I have thought about the game some more, the following have come to mind: 1. From Pat Dooley's Back Nine article 10. For all of you who are jumping all over Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio, the Back Nine has something to say. Tons of e-mails and Tweets have rolled in and the cliche of all cliches has sprung up - a firesteveaddazio.com website. Just remember this - Steve Addazio held your program together during a crisis. He held together the best recruiting class in the nation when the head coach was too ill to be a major factor and other coaches were negative recruiting. If I was Addazio, I might go all Colonel Nathan R. Jessup on the Gator Nation and say, I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, otherwise, I suggest you pick up a helmet, and snap the ball. Either way, I don't give a (bleep) what you think you are entitled to. This is still the same guy who called the plays in routs of Georgia, FSU and Cincinnati. Like I said, you owe Addazio a debt of gratitude. You at least owe him more than one game this season before you start carving him up. 11. Look, I wasn't happy with some the play calls Saturday, especially the screen pass from the 1-yard line that should have been ruled a safety. But with Addazio as coordinator, Florida is now 14-1. I think that has to count for something. Let's see what happens the rest of the way. Off the ledge, people. Like I've said a million times, nobody suffers winning like Gator fans. Interesting, that is just where I voted them on the GatorCountry Poll. I confess, I had them #1 in my preseason (but the preseason poll was to indicate where they would finish the season.) After personally seeing them this week, I frankly was struggling not to drop them out of the top 25. I put them in at #8 this week because I still believe this team has as much or more talent than last year. We will all know more in another week or two.
